Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

I've seen some folks use it to great effect in CTF during flag runs, but personally, it has never been consistently useful (half the time it'll throw me too low and I'll bounce off the ledge, once to my death). If the core wasn't solid and it was more like the Colossus lift than the shitty Highlands base lifts, I'd use it more. Bouncing backwards is disorienting, being lifted in the direction you step into it and having good awareness and air control (again, like Colossus) is definitely preferable.

It also looks like something that'll instakill you at first glance, rather than sharing the visual elements that every single gravity lift in the entire series has. My roommate, who plays Halo regularly and has done so since 2002, first thought it would kill him if he jumped into it.

It originally did kill. They changed the effect without changing the art.

Abandon's on your list of "bad" maps? Abandon's one of the best maps in Halo 4. Don't let it's poor application in Multi Flag tarnish what is otherwise a classic. As for Zealot, that always felt like a 2v2 map trying to pose as a 4v4. Is Arena Zealot the version that boards up the silly zero-G section of the map? Such a poor design choice.
Arena Zealot put the soft-kill barrier in the awful, should-never-have-existed low-G section of the map after vanilla Zealot somehow shipped without it. In Team Objective (RIP, friend), Zealot was easily my favorite Neutral Bomb (also RIP) map, and near the top of the list for best Multiflag map.

And yes, Abandon is on my list of bad maps, as are most wildly imbalanced maps that revolve around a central, disproportionately powerful control point, especially when one team has dramatically easier access to said point. Maybe if it were only placed in playlists that actually made sense for it, like an asymmetric gametype or King/Ball or FFA (RIP 3), I would place it higher, but the context in which it is placed is just as, if not more important than its actual design. If Multiflag were the primary use case for Zanzibar (RIP 4), I'd think it was a piece of shit too.

At least the grind is no way near Reach's million+ per rank towards the end. I mean, we've only just had the game a bit over a week now and you're already in a specialisation. If it was too quick there would be no more bars to fill! Just imagine, people would only play because they enjoy the game! Crazy, right?

I don't know why I'm rushing, anyways. Operator, the only other available specialization, is like the last specialization I'd pick, haha. I just need to hit Wetworks 10 before the other specializations are available.

Are the XP grinds going to be as bad as reach?

I think the max climb to a rank is like from Spec rank 9 to Spec rank 10, and it's only like 65k.

Just ranked up to SR-38. Should get to 50 in a week or less if I really push it... Not having double XP kinda sucks.

Just in time for them to unlock the rest of the specializations!

Because the "early access to specializations" bonus in the LE was totally worth it now that I know you can't even use it until SR 50.

OH COLLUSION.

Almost done with Engineer, will probably hit SR 130 by the end of next month at the latest.

Hope the in-game rank system happens in the first major TU.

Yeah, would've been nice if we had access straight away or something. Definitely not getting the LE for the next game if it's as lacklustre as this one.

Sloooooooooooooow dowwwwwwwwwwn.

Yeah looking back at it it's pretty terrible.

You get a skin for the default armor which, when compared to "free" pre-order bonuses that unlock much later armor like the Venator armor or GUNGNIR, is pretty disappointing.
You get a skin for the assault rifle. :I
Early access to specializations that require you to hit SR50 before even being able to access it. I'm only SR41 with just playing a few hours a day without double XP so I'll probably hit SR50 by the time the specializations are available to everyone.
No one is talking about the briefing packet, but I'll assume it's because the info in there is so top secret that it would not be right to talk about it in a public forum.

Fuck that, Halo all day every day!

(Seriously though already have 2 days and some odd hours of pure gameplay, game is fun as hell)

How much double XP were you on?

i feel like such a halo bum at boring level 34

i have a helmet with a visor that covers my entire face big whoop

Good news when you get to SR41 you get another helmet with a visor that covers your entire face, and a skull tattoo that covers the visor.

Later on you get another helmet with a visor that covers your entire face, and a plus sign that covers the visor.

I take it you are talking about top middle/bottom middle here; how is that a power position at all? There are at least 5-6 lines of sight to middle and running is near impossible if your opponent is any good, or better yet, has a team to back them up. All of the hallways can be choked easily as they have multiple entrances and the outside areas have 3 line of sight points as well. As much as I take issue with the over use of hallway battling and long distance DMRing on that map, if you have a decent team (which is more often than not the REAL issue) there is no point on Adrift that cannot be choked out.

Not trying to shit up this thread with other game talk but if you thought Halo 4's dewXP shit was bad, Black Ops II's special ending takes product placement to a whole new level.

No spoilers as far as I can tell and the "Nah, I'm just fucking lazy" part was pretty great.

Ewwwwwwww.

I think enough to get me up to level 32? Also going to be on level 67 here soon :)

Adrift? No, I like Adrift quite a bit. Abandon, however (I hope that it was sufficiently clear from that series of posts that Abandon was what I was talking about), is a different story, considering a team at the top has line of sight to almost the entire map, has instant cover with a single strafe behind the walls and can instantly cut off any runs with a simple jump or good grenade. They have easy access to the one high-tier power weapon on the map with a drop down to the Rocket spawn, with Boltshots can render the lift impossibly dangerous to use, and generally are able to screw over the team that spawns on dirt because Blue has so few viable, cover-laden routes that don't involve going straight through the tower and are at an immediate elevation disadvantage.

Here's the thing, if that top middle existed in a symmetric map, I would have less of an issue with it. When it allows red to dominate as it has in my experience, especially in practically-locked-spawn gametypes like CTF, I start to dislike it. It's not that it can't be overcome (I've certainly done it) but that one team is immediately faced with overcoming it at the start of the match simply because the game placing them on a particular team deems it so. It was the same crap on Stockpile Sword Base, you could get over it if you were blue, but it was still annoying as hell.

Playing a SWAT game that's 4v2, with me on the team of 4.

It's really boring and I feel bad for the other team. I'm just going to idle until the match ends or they get more players.

^top image looks like Complex and bottom image reminds me of that one campaign mission with the fog before you meet Lasky.

Is Extraction not in normal playlists yet? I totally forgot about it, so I assume not... odd if so.

Complex feels slightly off, for me - I'd prefer it to be more 'gamey' than 'realistic', if you know what I mean. Still, is good fun most of the time. Haven I love.

I don't think Meltdown or Vortex needed to be in game as BTB (either, not both) - one could/should have been made smaller/replaced by a 4v4 map of similar aesthetic.

As much as I love this game Forge mode is complete balls. I know CA is working on it but if 343 has any say they REALLY need to put classic infection in without the flood skin and let weapons spawn normally on Flood. Its ruining A LOT of potential mini-game and infection maps.

Seriously the flood skin is cool and all but at least give us the option to use it or not.

The briefing packet is essentially just a themed manual - its nothing special at all - I can put down more information on what it contains if your interested? I see it as a replacement for the none-existent game manual lol
