Woops, Krow told me after that it came across as me suggesting Halo 2 had a good playlist management. What I had meant to say was "What was Halo 2's like?".
SMG starts in BTB sounds like a twisted kind of 'fun' .

Halo 2's playlists were just as baffling as 3/Reach. The only difference was that people actually enjoyed objective back then, and Halo 2 had a better map selection, so some of the garbage was easier swallowed.
I still remember 4v4 SMG starts on Coagulation, people would get a lead, then hide in the basement of the base with rockets or something equally retarded.

Jesus CHRIST, 4v4 SMG starts on Coagulation, I remember that shit. Get a quick lead with the sniper, camp in base with shotgun/dual-wield combo/rockets for 12 fuckin' minutes. How in the HELL did that get into TS playlists!? And what's worse is you can't veto or vote for something else, so you're stuck playing the worst stuff.
To anyone that is currently working in development of Halo 4:
Has there been any thought of including a "surrender" option in multiplayer? An option that comes up if more than half of your own team quits out, you will then get this option to end the game quicker without having to play hide n seek for 10 minutes.
Instead of the filtering multiplayer system where players are just subbed in, would this be a more adequate solution rather than just switching the whole style of "Halo" to every other FPS game that's out there? I hate being in BTB games in Reach where it's 8v2 or 8v3 and you're just bored out of your skull. You'd rather just end the game to play something more interesting and fun.

Got the wife hooked on the Sims 3 (years after trying when it first came out) and she wanted an Expansion Pack today to kill the Guild War 2-less weekend doldrums. While at Best Buy, I said "Fuck it" and bought ODST. I had beaten it before on a Gamefly rental and loved it, but hadn't really felt the urge to buy it despite it being one of my favorite Halo campaigns.
To have this happen in Dark Souls is to test the speed at which one can quietly cross a room as quickly as possible while cursing at 2AM to get a replacement battery pack.

It's flawed, but it feels like the risky sequel Bungie would have made had the first game flown under the radar. It took the core gameplay principles of what made Halo fun and fresh and threw everything else out the window.
It's Marty's best Halo soundtrack to date. Damn near every track hits home -- especially Asphalt and Ablution. What an atypical FPS song. Brilliant.
And think about this: first-person shooter/sci-fi/film noir. This needs to happen more.
My only nitpick is that I wish there were more in-game side stories like
the dead Elites and the crooked cop.
(Spoilered tag for anyone who hasn't played the game. I thought these were awesome little moments.)
I was thinking... Spartan OPs presents a unique opportunity. Not only could it tell the original, standalone story of USNC Infinity (which also eventually ties into Halo 4's plot directly), and the missions that the Spartan IVs were deployed on, it could also simply have 'historic battles' for 'training reasons'. Imagine if via DLC they added missions that took place back on Earth, Reach, Harvest, etc which allowed you to participate in unique locales and missions that tie to the extended fiction. They also could consider some of MC's missions part of the "historic battles", remaking popular levels but altering them to be something unique at the same time. It honestly seems like an incredibly flexible idea that really could offer a unique experience.
I don't think that would be a great fit for Spartan Ops just because of the differences in sandboxes I'd want to go with that.
I have wanted them to make this game for years, though. Getting to play a more epic version of Halo events and side battles we've only ever heard described or seen in the distance would e awesome.

I always wonder about whether ODST would have been a superior game had it been given the time and resources of a game like Reach. The improved draw distances etc. would probably have made Mombasa Streets more fun to navigate, and then you could have had things like the Elites actually being killed by the Brutes (the timeframe is pretty bad when you think about it, because it basically suggests that the second Regret slips away, Truth arrives and kills all the Elites.) Having Buck's mission fighting Elites and then switching to Brutes later on would have been a cooler choice, for gameplay and canon reasons.
Ideally they would have gotten more time to flesh out the characters from more archetypes, as well.

You must have played against me . Another strategy we would use is too place two people on top of each base with the banshees so the enemy wouldn't be able to grab any Battle rifles/Snipers/Banshee. If they got in a warthog, grenades and/or the banshee would stop them.
Starting ranged weapons are a must for big open maps like that.
Oh my so much of this. I think I played at least 10 games of 4v1 or 5v1 last night. At least a few of them had the decency to quit though, which results in such little credit win. You should get a ragequit massive dong cash bonus if you get the whole other team to quit!

True. Maybe he should get some sort of thanks for not being a douchebag credit bonus. Which would lead to credit boosting of some sorts! Ahh Halo kids.
Where are you finding heatmaps? I couldn't find mine. But like you I didn't mind Swordbase so much. Sure, a lot of games have people trying to camp out in the gold lift room. But it's really a bad strategy and can easily be countered if people are smart. I like the map because it offers a lot of cover and multiple methods of getting around. I think Swordbase and Countdown are Reach's better non-forge maps, which I've stated before. I also played almost entirely by myself, so I appreciate maps that give a solo player a bit of help against the overpowered team mechanics in Reach, especially when one or more teammates quit out. That could be a big part of the reason for why I like them so much.

I don't think the issue is people just camping the lift, it's an issue of one team can pretty much own that floor fairly easily and control a lot of the routes up to it.
I'd rather start with a plasma rifle or smg in H2 and get a BR within a few seconds rather than start with an AR in the other games and take a minute or two to get a better weapon there thanks to the slow ass movement speed. Fools trying to sully the name of H2... It can never happen! Halo peaked with 2!
I'm not embarassed to admit that a few perfectly executed parts in games have gotten an emotional reaction out of me (just watery eyes).
MGS3 ending, HL2ep2 ending, Mass effect 2 prologue, an urban sequence near the end of Flower, etc etc. Feels good to get confirmation that I'm not completely dead inside, yet.
That solves a few issues, but it suffers from the same issue that Boarding Action has. There's only so many ways from one side to the other. A version with a walkway between vent room and the sniper platform along the way cropped up a while ago, but it looked bad aesthetically.

The spawns need improvement. Spawning lower level, yellow lift is often the closest. It takes much more time to run over to Red and try to fight from there.
My version of SB fixes many of these issues, but the odds of anything new being integrated into matchmaking are mega millions.

That heat map I posted was from a global heatmap on bungie.net back when they had control of heatmaps. The one another person posted is their PERSONAL heatmap. Sure it will play differently for them, but the vast majority of players just go to that upper level through the lift, no matter what the gametype.
Playing Winter Contingency for the challenge today and the cutscene where you find the chick and the elites attack is still one of my all time favorite Halo cutscenes for how it was done. I hope this is kind of what 343 is doing for the first person cutscenes in Halo 4. The whole scene, music, animation, etc is awesome.

The beta playlist was my favorite Halo experience, actually. I loved Beta 1 Flag on Sword Base.. I had that shit down to a science. In fact, if there was a playlist that just had Sword Base and Powerhouse Objective/Slayer mix, I would never play anything else.
So what's with some of these anniversary achievements? Do you have to be in the anniversary playlists? I was trying to get the infection ones in the zombies playlists with no luck.
