If he ends up becoming a gay farmer in the next book, I'm quitting Halo.

One final goal in Halo: Shit Reach remains: Get 100 assists in campaign. I reached Mythic tonight, and uninstalled Reach from my HDD. I still have my disc to complete my last goal, but I probably won't play it until my roommate and I do our Halo runthroughs next week or so. So are there any good places to farm the campaign assist while I'm doing the runthrough(that way I don't have to put the disc in more than once)?

Well, that little plot point is spoiled for me (what was on GTTV tonight) and it would have been cool to find out on my own. I hope I forget about it in my sleep tonight lol.

Going dark. The only stuff I'm going to read about anymore is forge/theater related. See you guys on the other side :)

PS: Having a choice between the
mech and mongeese in that sequence
(About gameplay choices on GTTV tonight) gives me a warm fuzzy feeling about the kinds of sandbox choices we'll get to make throughout the game.

Sure revamping could do wonders but why bother when we have the Prometheans, Forerunners after that and Precursors after that?

I'm more interested in new weapons, enemies, AI tactics, vehicles, environments and all that over the flood just getting some new enemy skins. We've done the flood, they have their place in the story but I just can't see them giving such a rich tapestry to draw from like 343i have opened the reclaimer trilogy to.

I think your observations are results of what I'm talking about in the above response. The flood were sort of half fleshed out in terms of any enemy class and their gameplay merits. I think the whole enemy class of Prometheans is a better approach that is fresh and provides more expansion in future games too.

Perhaps throwing them all into the mix in missions with the next generation console will be viable and remove the need for bullet sponges or cheap flood forms too?

Well, I guess the logic is the Forerunners don't want to totally eradicate anything, because it might come in handy somehow in the future, even if it's for someone other than themselves.

But I feel like if they thought the Flood were enough of a threat that their only option was to wipe out themselves and the entire sentient population of the galaxy to get rid of it, they'd have some kind of device that incinerates the Flood samples after a certain amount of time.

EDIT: This doesn't really bother me as the real reason the Flood samples remained is so they could appear as enemies to fight in Halo.

Sure, that makes total sense given how they've been treated in the past. I think there's certainly still merit in the style of encounter that they tend to produce, and especially when you mix them with the different factions. The devs just need to really learn what the Flood encounters are best at achieving, really push the development of the enemies along those lines (I'd hope that increasing their numbers is in the cards, because that really encourages the frantic pace that they work well in) and stop trying to shoehorn them in as the primary enemy in their own separate levels. As for them being bullet sponges, I think that at least with the Halo 3 combat forms, that stopped being the case. They were now more susceptible to melee and headshots than any other class in the game, except Grunts. Which was the right move, in my opinion, as long as they just crank up the amount of enemies to compensate.

Halo 5, four way fights between UNSC, Covenant, Flood, and Prometheans.

I agree with all your comments. I'm not against flood I just don't like levels or gameplay that is sort of "filler" for lack of a better word. I think 343i realises this and it's why the flood have been given less priority thus far.

I'm all for increasing their numbers and reducing cheap bullet sponges etc, especially on higher difficulty levels. I'd also like to see ally AI ramped up to help compensate for this in the next generation of hardware.

As far as the flood tactics I have to agree with you more, the 343 Guilty Spark introduction and being locked in the room then having to adjust your movements to thin them out, choose your grenade clean ups wisely etc was all gaming gold but I never really got that sense again. Maybe somewhat in the library levels but certainly not in later Halo games.

I'm terrified for finals this year. In fact, I'm terrified for tuesday. I have an intro to business class at 9:30 AM every tuesday, so i have no idea what i'll be doing after the midnight launch. Either sleep or play multi for two hours and wait till after class to play through campaign

Uplift Reserve is such a great vehicle level. Load up the Warthog, give your passenger a Fuel Rod Cannon and watch the carnage unfold. So good.
