It's basically a win-win for Microsoft and PC gamers. The high number of sales brings in the money for Microsoft which incentivizes them to release more of their games on Steam (and possibly other distribution platforms).

I would argue that this is also a win for Lockheart. It's basically a win-win for Microsoft and PC gamers. The high number of sales brings in the money for Microsoft which incentivizes them to release more of their games on Steam (and possibly other distribution platforms).
Overselling a depreciating IP over the last decade, basically the focus of Xbox.

Nobody said Halo wouldn't sell some, its just a depreciating asset that they have over mined. I would be shocked if anyone was shocked that some of the early games didn't sell a few million units at a reduced low price on Steam... duhh.
One of the reasons for the decrease in sales for Halo 5 was Halo 4.
And the fact that they didn't have staple playlists on launch.Come on. The reason for the shitty sales for Halo 5 was Halo 5 - the campaign was a travesty. Worst Halo bar none.
Are you talking about the player stats for MCC on Steam?Halo currently is not even in top500 most played games. I could only find reach with grand total of...
...4 people playing currently it with max peak 3k people.
Looks like 2mln is fake. They probably send bilion of free keys and counted downloads from Gamepass because for sure you can't see shit in SteamCharts.
And before someone will pop up saying "Reach doesn't matter". Reach is also currently in top5 global sales for Steam.
Dont know what he's talking about, there are currently 69k players ingame on Steam. Are you talking about the player stats for MCC on Steam?
Considering halo is the poster child of xbox it only makes sense that it's seen this level of attention. Hell without halo, xbox likely wouldnt have had the momentum to make it to the 360.
to me its like being mad that nintendo churns out 2-3 mario games every year.
Ok, totally has nothing to do with the xbox one's shit sales, the complete butchering of MCC a year beforehand and the complete mismanagement of marketing.
No doubt. If a PS4 game can sell 10 million just on PS4 systems, it'd estimate it could sell 25 million if that same game was also on Xbox, PC and a dumbed down Switch port.I bet Sony are looking at those sales with a drooling mouth. How much would God of War, Spiderman etc sell on PC? It must be tempting for them.
Nonsense, you've included a few smartphone games, remasters, and an arcade game.
there has been 1 mainline game this gen, 1 RTS game and a remaster collection. The mainline series have spanned over three generations of consoles. Hardly overselling it.
Would you say the Uncharted series is overselling it?
Uncharted 1,2,3,4. Uncharted golden abyss. Uncharted collection. Uncharted lost legacy. Uncharted fortune hunter. Uncharted fight for fortune. Uncharted movie.
I don't see why Halo needs to do 2007 numbers to be successful. And neither do I see any sales figures in your post.I actually agree, to me the difference is... Mario sells. MS has overmined a depreciated asset, imo. Going to more platforms might help but them talking about Halo in 2019 isn't the same as 2007.
No doubt. If a PS4 game can sell 10 million just on PS4 systems, it'd estimate it could sell 25 million if that same game was also on Xbox, PC and a dumbed down Switch port.
Leaving lots of money on the table.
And that even excludes all the microtrans bonus money from other platforms. That's what I've been saying for years. It would also make the franchises more attractive for licensed merch or as hot properties for TV and movies. Instead of a full exclusive, go with "Play it first on X".
Except that is chicken feed compared to the number of people that would be added to the Playstation hardware install base by having the exclusive, which then boost number of people buying third party games on the console and give Sony 30% of the revenue. No doubt. If a PS4 game can sell 10 million just on PS4 systems, it'd estimate it could sell 25 million if that same game was also on Xbox, PC and a dumbed down Switch port.
Leaving lots of money on the table.
Oh, I actually kind of agree with your first point, but on the other hand the people claiming that everyone said it was Halo couldn't sell are setting up a strawman... the truth is it just not a huge deal anymore.I don't see why Halo needs to do 2007 numbers to be successful. And neither do I see any sales figures in your post.
Didn't someone on here say it wouldn't even sell a million?
Who said that?
I dont know if it was a million or if they said less than that but yeah someone said it. They, or someone else, also said it wouldnt hit 20k players oline lol.
Also that is just for the MCC itself, i dont know if it includes Reach itself which you can buy seperate, and is currently no.3 on the Global top sellers.
Why the fuck a PC player would want to play a subpar fps with all the good ones we have.
Because I played Halo 1 at the time.
It was a giant pile of steaming shit.
I mean, I understand that console players didn't have anything better at the time.
PC players: "who asked for this ?"
Both Gears and Halo as well as Resistance and Motorstorm sold a lot because they were console exclusives and fanboys generated a lot of press news and good will due to that.
All of them are mediacore games and PC releases of those selling nothing every-time proves that.
I remember halo 1 on pc back in the day and how it was meh game compared to other games out there.
I don't think you get my point here and maybe i was not clear enough. The point was not that it is wrong for it to come to PC. My point is that it is not a big of a deal for PC players and i expect that game will die quick death of steam same as new Halo Infinite if it will be still same old halo.
You might not believe me and that is fine but we have steam charts and we can look back in few months and see if PC crowd actually cared that much about it.
I am talking here about indie level numbers. For halo collection tops 100k-200k. If infinite is old halo type game then it won't brake million units.
Yeah i am sure of it. Bookmark this thread and you are free to come with numbers once it launches.

Book marked like told for this day![]()
Its player peak was 161k on launch day, and it apparently had over 300k peak on PC Gamepass.yes
edit: looks like steam charts are updated:
93k people peak in its first day. Should go to 120ish this weekend.
Way more than i expected (i expected around 50-60k) but not that is not a huge number for a such huge franchise.
Its player peak was 161k on launch day, and it apparently had over 300k peak on PC Gamepass.
The game is also just Halo Reach at the moment, a 10yo 360 game. Trying to downplay the numbers just make you look like a hater, or an idiot.
Exactly thats my point, the game is 'free' on Gamepass yet it still managed to post these Steam sales numbers and player counts.i am directly quoting steam charts, peak is 93 not 161k
Secondly i don't know where you can check any peak in gamepass, last time i checked you can't. Finally Gamepass isn't about buying games, it is subscription service which makes it a huge difference in how people consume their games. It is quite different to buy something and play it than just download it play for 5 minutes and quit.
I bet Sony are looking at those sales with a drooling mouth. How much would God of War, Spiderman etc sell on PC? It must be tempting for them.
Imma get savaged, but it feels like a cheap man's destiny. Yeah, Halo helped the genre, and it's great to have it on PC now. I'm liking the story, and with the amount of games and content I'm good with the $40 purchase.161K peak down to 45K. Nostalgia is a bitch. The game just feels wholefully unsatisfying after playing Destiny 2.
With Reach they are just starting the fight. John 117 hasn't even been woken up yet.Good to see people finally starting to finish the fight!!
I'm an avid Destiny player and I couldn't wait for Reach. I am sick of instant-kill "supers" in my shooting games. It's way too "everyone gets a turn to feel like a winner" .... destiny...
Except I never said it wouldn't sell. I know gamers are dumb.VVVVVVV

I said it's a shitty subpar FPS.
You clearly lack reading comprehension.I love watching goalposts shift in real time.
Nah.You clearly lack reading comprehension.

$39.99It's Halo and it's cheap. Of course it will sell like hotcakes on Steam.
