Halo: The Master Chief Collection has sold more than 2 million copies on Steam in just two days

It's basically a win-win for Microsoft and PC gamers. The high number of sales brings in the money for Microsoft which incentivizes them to release more of their games on Steam (and possibly other distribution platforms).

it's good to have Halo on PC.

hopefully the rest of the games come quickly and we get confirmation of Halo 5 being added to MCC

I'm glad so many are playing. It shows the strength of Bungie's Halo's and what 343 should be trying to emulate after they've failed twice to make their own style of Halo. If Infinite is a return to form (generally with gameplay design) I can see it being massive. If not, well PC players will have the best Halo's to play and I see those games retaining a larger population than Infinite over the long run.

Overselling a depreciating IP over the last decade, basically the focus of Xbox.

Games
- Halo Wars (2009)
- Halo3 ODST (2009)
- Halo Reach (2010)
- Halo CE Anniversary (2011)
- Halo 4 (2012)
- Halo Spartan Assault (2013)
- Halo MCC (2014)
- Halo Spartan Strike (2015)
- Halo 5 (2015)
- Halo Wars 2 (2017)
- Halo Fireteam Raven - Arcade Game (2017)
- Halo MCC for PC (2019)
- Halo Infinite (scheduled for 2020)

Books, about dozen or so that I can see plus comics.

TV
- Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn (2012)
- Halo Nightfall (2014)
- New series for 2021

Nobody said Halo wouldn't sell some, its just a depreciating asset that they have over mined. I would be shocked if anyone was shocked that some of the early games didn't sell a few million units at a reduced low price on Steam... duhh.

Nonsense, you've included a few smartphone games, remasters, and an arcade game.

there has been 1 mainline game this gen, 1 RTS game and a remaster collection. The mainline series have spanned over three generations of consoles. Hardly overselling it.

Would you say the Uncharted series is overselling it?
Uncharted 1,2,3,4. Uncharted golden abyss. Uncharted collection. Uncharted lost legacy. Uncharted fortune hunter. Uncharted fight for fortune. Uncharted movie.

Halo currently is not even in top500 most played games. I could only find reach with grand total of...

...4 people playing currently it with max peak 3k people.

Looks like 2mln is fake. They probably send bilion of free keys and counted downloads from Gamepass because for sure you can't see shit in SteamCharts.

And before someone will pop up saying "Reach doesn't matter". Reach is also currently in top5 global sales for Steam.
Are you talking about the player stats for MCC on Steam?

Dont know what he's talking about, there are currently 69k players ingame on Steam.

EDIT. Oh he was one of the people from the old 'Halo coming to Steam' thread who was saying Halo is dead, no one on PC wants it, etc.

Considering halo is the poster child of xbox it only makes sense that it's seen this level of attention. Hell without halo, xbox likely wouldnt have had the momentum to make it to the 360.

to me its like being mad that nintendo churns out 2-3 mario games every year.

Ok, totally has nothing to do with the xbox one's shit sales, the complete butchering of MCC a year beforehand and the complete mismanagement of marketing.

I actually agree, to me the difference is... Mario sells. MS has overmined a depreciated asset, imo. Going to more platforms might help but them talking about Halo in 2019 isn't the same as 2007.

I bet Sony are looking at those sales with a drooling mouth. How much would God of War, Spiderman etc sell on PC? It must be tempting for them.
No doubt. If a PS4 game can sell 10 million just on PS4 systems, it'd estimate it could sell 25 million if that same game was also on Xbox, PC and a dumbed down Switch port.

Leaving lots of money on the table.

I included most of their released media, not sure why that is nonsense... overmining the IP.

I actually had my fill of uncharted...ga and 4, but uncharted is still selling.

I don't see why Halo needs to do 2007 numbers to be successful. And neither do I see any sales figures in your post.

Interesting.. I know some (a lot of) people which said. "PC gamers don't need Halo, there are enough better games available for PC"

Morons 🤣

That's what I've been saying for years. It would also make the franchises more attractive for licensed merch or as hot properties for TV and movies. Instead of a full exclusive, go with "Play it first on X".

And that even excludes all the microtrans bonus money from other platforms.

Except that is chicken feed compared to the number of people that would be added to the Playstation hardware install base by having the exclusive, which then boost number of people buying third party games on the console and give Sony 30% of the revenue.

The 1st party games are doing their job very well in Playstation; forcing people to buy into the hardware. And that's all they need to do. The money will flow from there. And that's been how it works for four generations of Playstation. Third Party is where the money is, but 1st party is what allow the third party games to have a good install base.

Microsoft is abandoning the buisness model and I wish them luck on their experiment. I doubt they will succeed, they would end up becoming another SEGA.

Oh, I actually kind of agree with your first point, but on the other hand the people claiming that everyone said it was Halo couldn't sell are setting up a strawman... the truth is it just not a huge deal anymore.

They started hiding numbers for obvious reasons.

Of course, I'm a little suspect on Infinite... Not because its a halo title but because its another GaaS bag game, when I hear... "we have a 10 year plan"... a huge grin appears on my face.

Didn't someone on here say it wouldn't even sell a million?
Who said that?
I dont know if it was a million or if they said less than that but yeah someone said it. They, or someone else, also said it wouldnt hit 20k players oline lol.

Also that is just for the MCC itself, i dont know if it includes Reach itself which you can buy seperate, and is currently no.3 on the Global top sellers.

Why the fuck a PC player would want to play a subpar fps with all the good ones we have.

Because I played Halo 1 at the time.

It was a giant pile of steaming shit.

I mean, I understand that console players didn't have anything better at the time.

PC players: "who asked for this ?"

Both Gears and Halo as well as Resistance and Motorstorm sold a lot because they were console exclusives and fanboys generated a lot of press news and good will due to that.

All of them are mediacore games and PC releases of those selling nothing every-time proves that.
I remember halo 1 on pc back in the day and how it was meh game compared to other games out there.

I don't think you get my point here and maybe i was not clear enough. The point was not that it is wrong for it to come to PC. My point is that it is not a big of a deal for PC players and i expect that game will die quick death of steam same as new Halo Infinite if it will be still same old halo.

You might not believe me and that is fine but we have steam charts and we can look back in few months and see if PC crowd actually cared that much about it.

I am talking here about indie level numbers. For halo collection tops 100k-200k. If infinite is old halo type game then it won't brake million units.

Yeah i am sure of it. Bookmark this thread and you are free to come with numbers once it launches.

Book marked like told for this day :messenger_tears_of_joy:

yes

edit: looks like steam charts are updated:

93k people peak in its first day. Should go to 120ish this weekend.
Way more than i expected (i expected around 50-60k) but not that is not a huge number for a such huge franchise.
Its player peak was 161k on launch day, and it apparently had over 300k peak on PC Gamepass.
The game is also just Halo Reach at the moment, a 10yo 360 game. Trying to downplay the numbers just make you look like a hater, or an idiot.

i am directly quoting steam charts, peak is 93 not 161k

Secondly i don't know where you can check any peak in gamepass, last time i checked you can't. Finally Gamepass isn't about buying games, it is subscription service which makes it a huge difference in how people consume their games. It is quite different to buy something and play it than just download it play for 5 minutes and quit.

Exactly thats my point, the game is 'free' on Gamepass yet it still managed to post these Steam sales numbers and player counts.
The 93k is peak numbers for the past 24hours, its overall peak was 161k on launch day. It says it right on the Steam charts.
  • 61,955 players right now
  • 93,441 24-hour player peak
  • 161,024 all-time player peak 3 days ago

Looks like SteamDB has better database than steamcharts, steamcharts show all time peak of 93k.

where did you get gamepass numbers ?

161K peak down to 45K. Nostalgia is a bitch. The game just feels wholefully unsatisfying after playing Destiny 2.

It'll be a popcorn day when they do. Hasn't that robot dinosaur, ginger broad, game been announced for PC already?

It's almost as if big business doesn't care about Internet warriors

Imma get savaged, but it feels like a cheap man's destiny. Yeah, Halo helped the genre, and it's great to have it on PC now. I'm liking the story, and with the amount of games and content I'm good with the $40 purchase.

... destiny...
I'm an avid Destiny player and I couldn't wait for Reach. I am sick of instant-kill "supers" in my shooting games. It's way too "everyone gets a turn to feel like a winner" .

But then instantly:
  • Woof, the environment models are worse than any average indie game these days; dull lumps that smash into other lumps with obvious seams.
  • Yikes, these default controls! Jet-pack is on shift instead of from holding jump.
  • No edge mantling, feels awkward because it is 70% how Destiny feels otherwise and I'm keep expecting it.
  • Any mode with DMR on spawn makes most map weapons useless; and generally weapon balance is shit.
  • I remember some use-cases for plasma rifles and autorifles back on the 360, but I think PC players can more easily just hit people with the DMR even in close range.

The collection deserves it, I even own it for Xbox one and still bought it again on Steam, can't wait to play again tonight.

Really love when fanboys embarrass themselves lol.

Game sure af is doing way better than expected even with gamepass as an option on pc. Now only if 343 can turn back the clock on infinite and release it with the same quality of the original games.

I'm glad to see this. As my preferred platform I want everything to come on pc so I'm pleased to see this doing well. Halo has never been good though... runs away

It's Halo and it's cheap. Of course it will sell like hotcakes on Steam.

Pretty good, and really its not surprising, the Halo franchise on PC is on pace to sell 10+ million going by these stats.

$39.99
It's not like you should charge full price for a 5 years old game.
Reach alone is just $9.99, but I think most went for the collection. Because buying every game separate is more expensive.

It didn't sell anywhere near 2 million yet.

It's at 45k concurrent players right now. There is no doubt however MCC on Steam will a massive success as each one of the bungie games is added. Halo 4 and 5? LOL

looking forward to finally playing thru Reach's campaign tho. Halo 3 looks phenomenal in 4K on X. I expect reach to be as much as a treat.

I still don't see this as "Halo is back!". It's more like... "halo got ported!"

Infinite will still be shit
