Halo The Master Chief Collection |OT| Halo Never Died, It Was Just Missing In Action

Halo's gameplay is also showing its age. Halo was never revolutionary to begin with. It was merely many console gamers' first introduction to competitive fps multiplayer. It did nothing new that Quake, Tribes, or Unreal Tournament had previously done. And unlike Call of Duty which evolved over time, Halo's multiplayer forumula is still the same as ever. Floaty, slow, few weapons. The exact opposite of what made so many arena shooters so good.

"Never revolutionary", but the multiplayer formula is "the exact opposite of... so many arena shooters".

That contradiction tho.

Am I the only one who vastly prefers the original Halo 2 MP to this Anniversary MP? Maybe it's that the aesthetic and audio remind me too much of Halo 4, but there's just something so enticing about the old visuals and GOAT Steitzer. I really enjoy how clean and crisp the maps are in the first 3 Halo games. The anniversary maps, as the H4 maps just seem.. overly detailed? They just seem so very busy. Are my complaints legitimate?

I've only played Halo 2 classic and loved every second. Holds up incredibly well.

How do I save clips from my temporary files?

I heard that you can't, but might be wrong.

Wow.... this thread

Is ANYONE actually JUST playing the single player!? :/

I bought this for multiplayer H2 class - don't really have much interest in the campaigns at the moment.

I forgot that the Gravemind level in H2 is so long. So long.

The remastered music hasn't been too great for me. That awesome guitar riff in the original Gravemind is terrible in the remake. Sounds like a 13 year was finally let out of his garage for the first time to play. Really amateurish.

Also, let me just say that the visuals in Halo 2 Anniversary campaign have FAR exceeded my expectations. I wouldn't change A THING. This is an anniversary done right. I wish they could overhaul the Combat Evolved anniversary with some of the assets from this one.

This game gets EVERYTHING right. I find myself having more fun than I ever did on my initial playthrough of Halo 2. I think the remastered visuals and audio make every aspect of gameplay more satisfying. From tearing through Flood with a shotgun has never been more satisfying, or enjoyable. I even enjoy fighting Brutes now, which is something I can't say for the original Halo 2.

I think my favorite touch so far has been the remastered audio for Hunters (which look a hundred times more menacing and formidable in this remake. Pressing back for old visuals on them is mind boggling.) Every step they take booms, like a fucking pair of tyrannosaurus that are about to fuck your shit up!

I just wish CEA had taken this approach. The contrast in art direction between that anniversary and this one is blatantly obvious. It seemed like CEA just injected assets from numerous pre-existing games and called it a day. H2A, however, went the distance and really hit a home run, visually.

I want to play online, especially Halo CE. It's bullshit that it isn't working right now. I feel bad for the people who took PTO to play multiplayer with their friends. Maybe the rule should be to take the following Monday after the release.

Iv played my fair share of campaign over the years. I'm here for the MP.

This. But i'm also the type who doesn't watch movies and TV shows over and over. Maybe once every 5 years. I've got a half-decent memory... i dont need to play them again. (That said there are some special SP games i do replay once every 1-2 years. Read Mario 64/Zelda etc.)

Hell yeah. Still playing through Halo:CE..

I had forgotten how fucking BIG the maps are lol. Holy fuck at some of these. I just arrived at the Library last night and will be going through it tonight.

while we're all sitting here with nothing to do i'd love to hear arguments on what H3 mp does better than H2

I'd go as far as to say that H3 is an awful MP game in comparison to H2. You used to be able to fall back on glitches as a reason why H3 was better, but with H2A as a thing now, it just becomes increasingly more clear how much better H2 was in regards to its core mechanics. A faster game, far better battle rifle, larger FoV. I can't play H3 mp anymore...

A couple questions about LASO.

1. Do you have to do the LASO playlist for the achievement?

2. If you don't have to, and you do it regular, can you turn on every single skull including the non scoring skulls? The playlist doesn't have them activated.

Whoa whoa whoa, wait.

These games are P2P???

Why are we not talking about this more? They said dedicated servers multiple times. Now not only is matchmaking broken, but its not even dedicated servers?

Thats a straight up lie from them.

Speaking of which, I got my Xbone Tues 11/4 along with the charge and play kit, I charged the battery that day and unplugged it and been gaming like mad since then and haven't had to recharge yet. Is there a place to tell how charged the battery is?

It really isn't a fix when they just started working on this. They released an unfinished game and you guys are beta testing the game for free.

My thinking (hope) is that the migration messages are just holdover from the old games being P2P and not proof that these are P2P.

I'd like to think that if this was P2P it wouldn't be this broken. My gut is that this is such a problem beyond the actual matchmaking because something is really wrong w/ Microsoft's Azure platform and it's not able to spin up servers properly or perform.

If it was P2P I can't imagine it would be this hard to matchmake games properly if people are self-hosting.

I prefer BTB in Halo 3 to BTB in Halo 2, because it feels more organic and sandboxy. It's got better big maps. Halo 2 excels at pretty much everything else though.

I feel the original trilogy are all damn near tied personally when it comes to multi. I can't put one ahead of the other cause sometimes I'll want to play Halo CE over both just for the pistol.

I'll gladly say 4 and Reach are the worst of the series though.

Press the Xbox logo on your controller when you're on the dashboard, the clock and a battery indicator will appear on the bottom right.

Who got their copy for free here? Show yourselves.

Meaning you're not getting paid for beta testing the game. You're actually paying them to get a chance to beta test the game. Business-wise, this is a brilliant idea. PR wise, it's a nightmare. As long as there isn't a law passed, they will get away with selling broken, unfinished games to customers who will beta test their game for them.

I really can't ignore how worse this have gotten. Main reason why I didn't buy this game or Ass Creed day 1.

Tap the Xbox button on at the dashboard. It should show a clock and the battery icon.

I dunno, I guess it's the attitude. It all seemed rather self-congratulatory, and the state of this game's launch is most certainly not worth of any sort of congratulations.
True, but it was meant to hype the game and so it did it's job. I just see PR as a separate thing altogether.

The MCC clearly has dozens of bugs to work out. I bought it day one an really haven't played it too much, so I really do get where you're coming from.

H2 was multiplayer perfection. The weapons/grenades were weaker and just simply not as fun to use. Maps were also inferior to Halo 2.

I literally cannot believe the state this game is in.

Frame-rate doesn't fluctuate like a lot of "60 fps" games, it just nose dives playing online co-op (4 player) to what seems like teens, it stutters all over the fucking place so much that I'm starting to wonder if its a bug instead of actual performance issues (H3/4 played).

My friend said it in the best way "Playing it on 360 was better than this".

Private matches are completely smooth in my experience but some of the rest of it is just dire. FFS

Yeah. This game released incredibly unfinished. It's still a great package and price, but MS messed up releasing it in this state.

I can't believe a Halo game has managed to have a worse launch than BF4....

In BF4 I was at least able to get into matchmaking games, there were some crashes but I was playing.

Played a few hours last night in Halo 1, 2 and 3. REALLY enjoyed it, and the remastering for 2 is pretty slick. No technical problems so far aside from the animation pacing in the 60 fps cutscenes and the odd dropped frame. I hope people remember that you generally need to "Save and Quit" to keep your checkpoints. The occasional unmatched wall contours are something I notice, but don't seem to bother me. Playing all of them on Legendary.

Haven't tried split-screen co-op yet, but that's in the cards.

I'm afraid not. I can confirm that I have been host in multiple matchmade games. In-game effects tipped me off, and network traffic monitoring confirmed it.

Yeah wait... i thought the matchmaking MP (custom games = P2P) was all supposed to be dedicated servers!?! There is no way the f'd that up too?

Might be like titanfall when you get a bad connection drops to what feels like 5fps

Hopefully they sort it :)

Eh...host issues, standbying, modded matches, rampant noob combos and micro nukes kinda make it less than perfect. It was fun though which is why I'm waiting for them to fix this so I can play Halo 2 without 4 of those things.
