As far as I'm concerned, if 343i wants any shot whatsoever of regaining the trust and respect of the players who they've upset, they need to come forward with a sincere, straightforward, and honest apology.

No excuses, no shifted blame, just an absolutely honest apology that explains what happened and how such an unfinished, buggy, and broken game got released to the public. The existing faceless "apology" posted under the "Forum Team" account on the Waypoint message board simply doesn't cut it:

...An unrelated issue with services is also causing achievements to not unlock correctly, and we realize this just makes it all feel a bit worse.

A game as large as Halo: The Master Chief Collection has a massive surface area, and while we made every effort to have the best launch possible for our fans, issues surfaced with launch...

Dan Ayoub
Executive Producer

The achievements are a very small issue in the grand scheme, and it seems as if they were only mentioned with the intention of offloading some of the responsibility. It's a strange thing to mention specifically otherwise given the myriad of other (more pressing) issues.

While The Master Chief Collection certainly has a lot of content, its "large surface area" does not need to be brought up as a defense. This is a port of existing code, not new games from the ground up. That's not to say there isn't a lot of work involved, but the fact that there's multiple games included is not an excuse. Other multiple game collections have been done before, and they've been done better. None of the games in this bundle are without issue.

As for "issues surfaced at launch," this is probably the most frustrating part of the whole thing. No, issues did not "surface at launch." Issues that were already clearly there became viewable by the public. The game has had issues with crashes, bugs, and unexpected behavior at every event they've demoed it at. Tournaments with professional players have had games canceled and restarted due to crashing. Community questions and requests for media of the various games went unanswered.

Many of the issues in the game are deeply rooted and have nothing to do with the online component. These are all things which should have been clearly obvious during any QA test and exist offline. Things like poor frame rates on Halo 2 Anniversary maps, nearly unplayable Halo 4 split screen, crashes, freezes, save game data losses, audio problems, unaddressed bugs from old builds, missing and broken features, and so on. Many of the items listed in the bug tracker can not be blamed on the online aspects of the game, and many of the online-related issues should have been caught and fixed long ago. It is painfully, painfully clear that this collection did not receive the polish and quality assurance that production code should.

The situation is far past the stage of "launches are hard; things happen." There's a community who is upset and who has had their trust shaken. But I think there's also a lot of people who are willing to forgive, especially if a truly honest apology happens.

So please, 343 Industries: no red tape, no politics, no excuses. Just admit that the game is broken, shouldn't have shipped in its current state, and that there were issues with development and the schedule. Let the community know that you're truly sorry and that you're sincere about fixing the issues and making it up to everyone.

The achievement issue was a general Xbox Live problem at the time as they are working correctly now.

Finally got into a match, Halo 4 of all things, and it kicks me to an infinite loading screen upon match finish.

I mean, even if they make the matchmaking work I wonder what they're gonna do for the above issue.

Who's dumbass idea was that? Jesus the music turns up to insane levels and I can't hear anything else. *sigh*

Check your system...the original mix should not overwhelm the game sounds. There is an issue though of the anniversary menu leaving out parts of the original menus that are affecting play. For example no one can forge a grifball map on halo 3 right now because the options are missing.

I honestly don't need them to admit issues with development...there are always issues with development. I just need the game fixed quickly. If we are in for a battlefield 4 wait here...than forget it

Yeah same here. It was great leveling back up after that first reset because they changed the metrics letting you get to a higher level. If you were in the high 20's before that first reset you were a stud in my book.

Shit, playing with a team of 17-18s in big team battle put my whole group of friends in the top 50 world wide in that playlist.

Man I cannot wait for this shit to equalize to get back to what was in my opinion the most even and fair matchmaking I have had a chance to play.

From other Thread

We DO have dedicated servers.

First off – and I will say this for the next hundred years – SORRY – we are fixing it. It’s getting better slowly today and we expect that trend to continue, but what you’re seeing currently is actually just an element of this complicated problem – we do in fact use dedicated servers for matchmade games, but as an emergency contingency, MCC is designed to fall back to traditional peer-hosted gameplay in the event that there are connectivity issues with the dedicated servers. This can happen for a variety of reasons including intermittent unavailability of dedicated servers, poor ping times to the dedicated server datacenters, or network configuration issues that prevent you from being able to access the dedicated servers. We’re busy getting stuff fixed and improved, and I promise you I will give you a full breakdown of what happened (and it’s multiple compounding things) after we fix it all. And Dan is going to update everyone on the situation and improvements later today.

And sorry for periods of radio silence, we're literally rushing around fixing stuff.

It will be interesting to see how much 343 an co fix before they call it a day. Would be sad if a so called definitive collection stays that rough. I'm glad the hype went away for me before launch, bullet dodged.

So I got into the game and went to matchmaking, downloaded an update, went to search 2-3 min and BOOM a 4v4 match on Zenith! With no lag!

Hope we're getting into a turning point for the good here

Wow, I'm glad to see Frankie jumping into that other thread. Yeah it sucks now, but really i am confident it'll be fine. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Frankies comments makes me feel better. Looking forward to what that other has to say later today on what is going on.

they'll fix it eventually but the last time I saw a game launch with these levels of issues was BF4 and Gears 2, both which took...well, for those unfamiliar you won't be happy with how long it took

It's pretty clunky how unclear the menus in the Halo Channel and in-game are about watching Halo Nightfall. The game comes with a code card to redeem being able to watch them, which is fine, but neither the game nor the Halo Channel menus give this indication, they just say "buy the MCC to watch Nightfall." The Giantbomb guys had the same problem.

It was disc, so I know that has a lot to do with it, but I hear people say that the 50Gig patch took forever regardless. Or was that just people being impatient?
{digital}Took me over 10hrs to download to 69% the first time. That froze. Second time was about the same. So about an entire day in total.

Downloads seem to take forever across the board on Xbox one tho. PS4 I never have these issues.

Maybe I gone digital this gen. It took my 30-45 mins download the game. Everyone does say Xbox One has long install time

I'm starting to be impatient about this issue. I wanna play some matchmaking games, but I have no patiance to wait 10~20 minutes for that.

Still no word from 343 today?

I've lost hope already, honestly, this will probably take long to be fixed.

See one above you.

But i'm almost with you on the second part. It took BF months to get sorted... i'm hoping (but thinking it might) it doesn't go that way.

So why can't I use the Bandanna skull in Halo CE? I just found it, and it's not showing up on my skull list. Couldn't you use it in the 360 release?

I'd probably be more pissed about this matchmaking fiasco if there weren't four campaigns to play through

They've bought themselves some time.

If you haven't played Halo 3 yet, you need to do it. Looks amazing. Sounds amazing. Is amazing.

Marvel

could never
I like the avatars you can unlock, guess I'll play the campaigns tomorrow too. I want that needler Grunt that you get from Terminal 10 on Maw haha.

I don't want to give the impression that I'm saying "I don't care about multi, so it's not a problem", but I almost feel bad that my enjoyment of the series comes mostly from the campaign play. It's weird being basically unaffected by the problem.

That being said, anyone know one way or the other if there's LAN support?

Sometimes I forget to put a face on these companies I bash when their games aren't working. I'm sure 343 is just as upset as us, and I'm sure they're doing all they can to fix it.

I took off three days for this and after 5 hours every day I quit because I'm tried of searching and searching and searching. Not to mention I love team objective but no playlist that spans the games :( 30 games in 3 days
