Halo The Master Chief Collection |OT| Halo Never Died, It Was Just Missing In Action

They have come out and said if you don't have a match after 4 minutes you need to cancel and start again anyway. This game was released in a pretty poor state for such a critically acclaimed set of games.

Yeah that's what i'm referring to. It wont find games (save for team slayer every 5th or so try) after 5-10 minutes even with backing out and restarting over and over after 3-4 minutes.

It is odd it was even released as it is, right?!

I played a lot of matches yesterday, average wait time was about 3-4 mins of searching. Which is way, way to much.

The vast majority of the matches were uneven teams as well. But the ranks were pretty good, like the levels were all pretty close to eachother.

But hey, i played some halo. thats cool.

Lan Dong Mik

And why would I want them?
Even though I got a refund for this yesterday I'm still bummed to see these match making issues haven't been fixed. To me, this is the biggest disappointment of the year. It seemed like there were just so many issues with the game that it couldn't be fixed with a simple patch or two. I really hope it's up to par by December at least so I can pick it up again.

Do some of you think they are just going to let the game stay like this and never fix it?

You're not teaching anyone a lesson by returning the game, you are just missing out on what is going to be a great experience.

I had no problems getting into a match last night in Team Slayer. Searched for less than a minute. A few times it froze after the match and I force-quit and just restarted the game.

Give them time to work this out. Don't go selling the game.

----

After starting Advanced Warfare for the first time yesterday I was occupied for hours trying to level up and unlock more stuff and hopefully get good supply drops. Call of Duty has a great way of keeping you playing.

I then jumped on Destiny to run the raid on one of my characters for the week.

Then decided to hop on MCC to see how it was to find a match. I got into a match pretty quickly and I just couldn't stop. One more game. One more game.

Not knowing what map you are going to get is a treat all its own. Its so addicting.

So yeah, as people have been saying, Combat Evolved literally skips 343 Guilty Spark when you save an exit. I found I needed to go back to mission select (which says I finished the mission on normal), load it back up again, then save and quit again so when I go back on I'll start at the correct mission.

LOL, glad I wasn't the only who noticed. Game actually gave me the credit for beating too. I still went back and actually played it of course...

Yup. He's a moron. Matchmaking is at least half the reason to buy this game and it is not a working feature.

oh all those games i've been playing must have been my imagination

or magic, maybe?

it does work. It doesn't work well but it does work.

how do you not understand something as simple as that?

this is annoying. But it's Halo. 343 and MS will get it fixed. They must. It's all the Halo games - it's for the long haul. It's not something you buy and are done with in a week. So, I'm waiting. It'll get done.

I got into about 4 games last night (all were team slayer) and got absolutely motored by the vets playing. Oh well, I still had a blast. Still takes too long to find a match though and I would get bored while waiting.

The limited taste I have gotten of the game so far confirms that this collection has so much to offer. I really hope that 343 can fix the matchmaking and get most (if not all) of the bugs sorted out soon. I am having fun with the campaigns (started CE with the plan to go sequentially through them) but really want to gorge on some MP. My fingers are crossed for the fixes they are working on to work. I don't have the patience to sit through a BF4 type situation.

I really dont think playing online is gonna be the month long mess that driveclub was (is?).

343 knew this was coming though. They had to of. They removed halo CE, removed ranking from all but one playlist after talking about it for how long? and lowered the big team battle count.

They wouldnt do all that if they didnt know there were issues.

Im having an intense game of Ranked Searching. You guys are missing out!

Yes I restarted the search every 4 minutes or so....

Level design is one thing. Combat and gameplay is another. The Library is awesome imo, and it's fun to watch the weaklings identifying themselves by bitching about it being the worst thing in games. Hahahaha, I eat that shit up. Even complaining about AotCR, arguably one of the best levels in the series. Just skip CE altogether if you are here for the cutscenes and not the gameplay. *shrug*

I think the combat is still fun. Like someone else said, its like a DooM throwback.

Level is just piss tho from a design standpoint.

So let's just say you purchased a new alarm clock. You set a daily alarm for 6:00 am. It's not gone off on time once. Some days it goes off at 5:00 am... sometimes at 6:45 am, 7:12 am... etc.

It does work. But it is broken.

Simple, right?!

So just because you're not affected means everyone else is wrong? On a matchmaking level for the majority of players, the game is broken.

There is no way they were unaware of the state of MCC. 343 knowingly released a broken, unfinished game.

You really towing the line with this one aren't ya?

The situation isn't ideal, I agree with you there, but to purport that 343 just said, "ah fuck it this is close enough" is downright insulting. Read some of Frankie's posts since Tuesday, he seems genuinely distraught, ashamed and apologetic. But I guess you could just say he's "putting on a show" for GAF, so whatever, believe what you want to believe.

How do you not understand that a matchmaking system that sits for 30 minutes or more without finding a match and frequent crashes after matches does not constitute a "working" product. Even 343 would admit to this not working at the moment.

I'm just going to call this a troll post and ignore. Goodbye.

The problem is that by the time they get it working the community will be rather sparse compared to what it should've been.

This game is bringing back a lot of memories. Both single and multiplayer. Trying to remember the controls of each halo has gotten me a few deaths but I adjust pretty quickly.

Straight up man. I legitimately spent a good 30 seconds trying to figure out what the "run" button was. Too much CoD/Destiny.

That clock is broken. Return it and get a different brand, but still a clock.

There is no other Halo. It's the only one. If you like Halo, stick it out and it'll get fixed. This sucks, but be patient. We're in such a culture of "NOW!!!!" these days. Bitch about it, complain, etc. But returning it is just going to make you not be able to play Halo anymore, ever.

I disagree. There is nothing like this on the market. We have waited a very very long time for some type of collection of all the halo games playable online.

Halo fills a very specific void that nothing else can.

The point is we shouldn't have to give them time to work it out. It should have worked day 1.

I 100% think that returning the game sends a message. If MS forced this game out before it was ready in order to make sure it sold for the holidays, then people should absolutely ask for a refund if they want. Even if 343i and MS genuinely thought the game was good to go, they were wrong and people should be able to get their money back.

Frankie says the matchmaking issues didn't show up in testing, which I can buy, but there's no way they didn't notice all the technical problems with the games themselves. I don't know what happened but it smells like they had an immovable deadline and just couldn't get everything fixed in time.

Pretty much. I've exeprienced this exact thing with BF4 because I was part of the community that left.

BF4 launch was so bad I stopped playing. When I went back months later to play and try out the fixes it still wasn't even fun as the launch literally ruined all my interest in that franchise. The same will happen here :(

Thank you. You can play Halo CE online with this game, 'nuff said. That ALONE will keep this package relevant for YEARS and certainly longer than the other releases of this particular season.

I hope you're right. I really loved the 4 matches I played in H2 classic playlist.

If you have the slightes idea about networking and servers, then you should know that this MM problem could had been something they couldnt tell during internal tests. I have work trough a mess similar to this at my previous job with Electronic Banking service, is not pretty for the consumers, is isnt pretty for the service provider either, I bet you anything you have had more sleep than the entire 343 cre have had in the last 4 days

It wouldn't be Halo 2 anniversary without pushing a game out to meet a deadline
New OT title: Anniversary of Halo 2's Deadline

Im sure they are working extremely hard and around the clock, but they made a bunch of last minute changes to multiplayer, then the game came out like this. They had to of had an idea of its state.

I have no vendetta against 343 or anything but there are only two possibilities.

343 knew the game was broken and released it anyway.

343 didn't know the game was broken and unknowingly released it.

The former can be explained away by "oh but greedy MS FORCED 343 to release..IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT!"

The latter suggests incompetence on 343's part if they didn't understand or test their game well enough to see these issues prior to launch.

Pick whichever story you want.

No, you shouldn't have to deal with this. But sometimes this stuff happens.

How many times have serves gotten fucked up on game launches? I know this one is more severe than most. But it happens. People don't understand what server stress does the game and its environment. It can ruin everything.

I do not believe that 343 shipped this game knowing all of these issues were present or highly likely.

No. BF4 was a new game. Not BF1-3 remastered. If H5 had these problems, then that is comparable. This is a greatest hits collection and people will still want it.

It's actually quite right.

I have done everything i've wanted to do in the game. It's functional.

People keep throwing the word broken around, which it is NOT. Yes, it crashes every so often, usually after matches or inbetween H4 levels. Yes, it's buggy.

But it's not broken.

It is absolutely broken. It is not working as designed. That's one of many definitions of the word broken.

You are not the only one playing the game. The matchmaking is slow but works. It has been addressed officially by the developer. Stop blindly attacking it.

It works both ways. The matchmaking both works and doesn't work for a number of people. I've played like 40 matches online and average mm time for me is like 4 minutes. My problem with the game is freezing and crashes after matches.

Ever? How about return it now and buy it later when it's cheaper and works properly?

considering the function of the alarm clock is to go off at a certain time... of course that's broken.

the function of a game is for you to play. Can you play matchmade games? yes. can you play custom games? yes. can you play campaign? yes.

ok then

No, I fucking can't. After the last 10 minute loop of searching..., back, searching..., I gave up and switched to destiny where I was in a matchmade game within 10 seconds.

Even if I could play matchmaking, I can't do it in half of the games because there's no playlists for them.

And what's your threshold for being able to "play the campaign"? If it ran at 25fps? 20fps? 10? I mean technically you could still play it! The only way I can play H1 is in classic mode because the anniversary mode runs like complete poop.

Chitown B

Sure, but you're just making more work for yourself. The clock will eventually be fixed. So you can choose to put in the effort to return and then re-buy. Or just do nothing and use it when it's fixed.

People are fickle these days and competition is fierce in the shooter department. Halo also lost some pull over the years. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd rather take a cynical approach and not be disappointed later. Trust me there is nothing I want more than to play Halo 2 all day.

Of course some will. Just like people still play BF4.

But some people are going to sell this game and never come back because of these launch issues. Hell in this thread alone we've had plenty of people reporting going for refunds. There is no denying this. The community will take a hit.

You don't think they saw the framerate problems in the SP games? The severe framerate problems in split screen? The crashing?

I'm not blaming them for these issues existing. Bugs exist in all software, and performance issues in games are usually among the last to be fixed. I firmly believe they just didn't have enough time. Saying the opposite, that they didn't see these problems and thought the game was good, actually makes them look worse.
