Bad news: stuck at downloading matchmaking message, decided to play so and discovered that my save data was lost. Had to restart library.

Good news: seemed to clear up the downloading matchmaking message (or its a coincidence)

Yeah me too I started the Halo 2 campaign and later I can find regular matches. A temporary fix by now.

Besides the 'we're sorry, we're working on it', have we had anyone from 343 weigh in on just how this game shipped in the state it did? There is the realisation that this is poor form, right?

Just interested because while it may be the norm (and to an extent 'acceptable') to have a turbulent launch these days it's just not good when a game is unplayable in so many ways.

Stinkles said there would be something that discusses what happened once they have it fixed. We got a ways to go though.

Frankie said he would give a postmortem when they got it all working but no other explanation as to what the problem is. Anyway server capacity seems to be a major part of this. Would explain the sudden announcement that custom and coop would be p2p and the revelation that they had a p2p safeguard built into everything in the event of server problems. This makes me question the we didn't know there was a problem until launch.

Any truth to the once a year refund?

Definitely sucks I bought a digital code, but was turned down instantly and told 343 is releasing another patch in the next 6 hours.

This is fucking ridiculous. I've been stuck at "Downloading the latest matchmaking data" for the last 30 minutes. I'm going back to playing something else. Fuck this game. Seriously thinking about trading this in to Gamestop tomorrow.

I'm not sure it's downloading much, but stuck/waiting. I cancelled, tried again and it worked straigh away.

Call again and escalate to a higher tier they are giving refunds but you may have to keep at it.

Don't know anything about a "once a year" thing but I asked for a refund on Monday and I got one with no questions asked. I'd get another agent. I used the Xbox.com live chat.

US digital? I really want to try for a refund tomorrow but I'm not sure of my chances.

Yes, I used Xbox.com live chat and they didn't give me any trouble at all.

This is fucking ridiculous. Games are taking 3-4min to find and then the teams are still uneven. Why the hell is it 5v5?????

half the time there's no BR starts on halo 2 classic.. the only damn game type that works. God i hate this.

be glad you even got a match. I clicked "Find game" and spent 20 minutes at "Downloading latest matchmaking data" before shut the console off and briefly considered just selling the damn game on ebay.

I wonder if it would have worked better to just give a menu where you would boot into each version of halo with its original menus, load screens, and matchmaking.

This frontend seems to be the major problem, because the individual games work mostly fine when you can connect.

If it just let me boot halo 2 like I did in 2004 and connect to the same matchmaking screen it would be just fine.

Been working smooth for me all night. I'm sorry everybody who's having trouble, that's really frustrating. Especially when these games are so darn good...

Well at least Halo CE's hit detection is corrected. Using the Sniper before the patch, it was really bad. Just played the sniper level and it was perfect. So happy that something got fixed! :)
I'm actually kinda sad to hear this. Years of CE on PC adjusted me to the... Quirky net code. I was dominating under the old version.

So how did everyone like the second episode of Nightfall?
I just got done watching it...

Liked it more than the first episode, and I liked that one plenty. Hope the quality improves.
Smelled the "every team for themselves" thing a mile away, but hopefully it'll be interesting. Outside of Locke and the guy with the kids I'm not liking this ONI team very much.

No can't have that it would break the UI they expertly crafted by hand to tie everything together and ensure a smooth experience with every game in the MCC.

Ahahahahahaa, now I get it, you are all joking and the patch is working flawlessly, right? RIGHT?

Really is too bad. A working, well-made MCC would have made me strongly consider an Xbox One. Now? Interest is barely even there, considering the amount of issues and bugs present in this.

agreed!
The
Hunter worms
were really interesting, and well done I think.
Love the part where the worm crawls all over the girl!! The look on her face XD!

Goddamn this is terrible. 3 matches in 2 hours of trying. 343 must have worked hard to fuck this up so bad.

I think that they underestimated just how hard it was to bring 5 completely different Multiplayer suits together under one UI....

Just imagine, the Netcode for each and every one of them is probably different, and they had to write their own netcode for H2A & Halo CE MP.

I think they would do well to document this whole thing well in case they ever decide to do something like this again in the future.

Well NeoGaf, here's the cold, hard truth. I just hopped onto Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 and it had a population of 636 people. I jumped in Social Slayer hoping for the best and was matched up for a 5v5 game in less then 10 seconds.

30 seconds later, I was enjoying a game of Team Slayer on High Ground.

Seriously, this launch window (it's been nearly two weeks now, I don't know what to call it at this point) is a thing for the books.

So if that December 9th Halo 5 beta thing comes to fruition, I wonder if it means theyre gonna take MCC down and rebuild it on the server side and we can play the Halo 5 beta until they're done. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. I just want a Halo game that has functioning matchmaking.

What I don't understand is why they wouldn't take their time with making sure MCC released in decent working order. It's paying homage to one of the most storied console FPS franchises in history. Why rush something like this.. They were going to get our money no matter the release date on a project of this scale, which involved up-res'd/remastered Halos 1-4 all on a single console. It just doesn't make sense.

29th.

And I think Halo 5 has a good chance of working unless the problem is completely on the platform/Azure side. 343i already proved they could ship a functional game, despite what we all thought of it.

They bit off way more than they could chew with this package and were probably forced to release regardless of status/quality.

This game got pushed out early probably because of Microsoft's feverish desperation to sell Consoles this November. Halo sells Xboxes, Halo is broken, so it's bad all around. I guess it's sorta good that Halo isn't the powerhouse like it used to be, less impactful overall than say if Halo 2 or Halo 3 released like this.

Still terrible though, makes Microsoft look incompetent.

Yeah, if MS didn't have a Halo this Holiday, I think the Xbox One starts looking really grim. They *needed* this at all costs and scope creeped themselves to death.
