Having problems getting into matches. When I do it's usually a laggy mess.

I think I'm almost done with the Halo franchise

Grenade launcher attachment hype!

I don't get where that is from

Central US for me. Game mostly works

Damn, wish it did for me. I tried about 3 or 4 times last night, different playlists resulting in similar, but different problems (all listed here before, such as getting thrown to the Game Over screen without ever getting into the match).

Wasn't able to get into one game.

soooooo no patch this week?? would be nice if they fixed the broken ass party system
Welp, I bought it weeks ago because I had hopes that they would get the game patched up before I leave the country again. I'm not going to be able to download huge multi-gig patches while I am gone for the next couple months but luckily I'll only be playing local campaign or local MP (so I won't have to worry about them dragging ass on getting online fixed).
Looks like it was a bit foolish of me to put that much faith or trust into 343i.

They really need to fix H2C's hit detection until they do I'm not touching it.

It really concerns me that they haven't even acknowledged that. That's not lag, it's hugely flawed game code. Like you, I haven't played H2C at all because of it - it's completely game-breaking. I mean come on, this is the game that's on its ten year anniversary; it deserves so much better.

Three month ago me thought I'd be spending my days playing heated games to rank up in Team Hardcore and playing MLG Midship CTF 5 and Warlock customs. Oh, what a fool I was.

This game is so fucked. Getting shit on because this game doesn't use skill based MM isn't fun. Halos fucking dead to me. Shutting on people 50-3 or getting shit on 50-10 isn't fun. H2A feels and looks like shit. Halo CE is a mess. Halo 4 sucks. All there is is H3 and H2 for me

Really? Because for me, it's the one thing in this collection that actually functions close to what I remember now. H2C, as Dwells said, is absolutely broken off-host. 3 feels okay, and I completely agree with you on 2A and 4.

Halo CE works better then before but I notice the aim assists pulls away from the player occasionally

Any word on dedicated servers or is the team focused on the Halo 5 beta now?

Theyre certainly switched on, so 343 keeps repeating.

But that doesnt mean anything if we aren't using them, as it is abundantly clear that we often aren't. Or does 343 think it normal for a dedicated server to pause the game to find a new host when a player leaves?

Somewhere out there are a bunch of dedicated servers. On, running, and not doing shit.

Can you tell me where I can check if it's dedi or P2P? Because people keep saying that like everyone is a network specialist, yet I see no place to check that.

Your best bet is to look at your own network traffic. You can use the connections and bandwidth table on your router. If you're getting/sending a ton of data to a residential connection and not an IP in the Azure server range, you're on P2P.

OK. What I'm hearing regularly here on GAF though is that everyone seems to magically just "know" it's not dedicated. If you're going to monitor your routing tables, maybe. But 99% are not going to do that. Yet 50% seem to think they "know."

There's some game specific ways to tell as well. For example, in Halo 2 Classic, only the host can grenade jump and can't grenade reload. So if you can grenade jump, you're host and it's P2P.

86% of me thinks this post is silly.

I don't even know what you're trying to suggest here. That the game is working fine and we're all lying when we say there are problems?

That some people might be jumping to conclusions when they see networking shenanigans. Which is a suspicion that I have as well; dedicated servers are great, but they're not invincible beacons of perfection. They still have bandwidth and processing limits, hiccups can still occur on your connection, and most of all, latency still exists.

While I don't want to imply that MCC is a reasonably functional product or anything bold like that, some of the "ugh peer-to-peer" that you see possibly (and probably) is just networking being networking, and arises during games that are actually hosted on dedis.

Did I say anything like that?

My post was regarding the fact that so many here seem to think they can immediately tell if they are on p2p or dedi. Asking how, in game.

I'd be surprised if they were on, considering all I've been getting is host migration messages.

I just got this and am not up to date on all of the issues. How is co-op presently working for people in all 4 games?

See below dude. The way I can tell is how often the host migrates, which only happens on p2p. Or when the game is very laggy but one player is clearly dominating with ease.

Also a lot of maps have their own ways of checking (which I would imagine wouldn't work on dedicated servers), like the Pit cameras in Sword base moving for the host or being able to shoot and kill the birds on Guardian. Though, with these methods, you'd only know if it was P2P if you were host.

Is anyone consistently getting into BTB matches without a problem? Got into my first attempt at a BTB match last night and it ran perfectly then it was 90 minutes of failed attempts. Also had no luck with the Halo 5 beta for an hour but then I go into that thread and the last two pages had little to no complaints about getting into matches. Wondering if part of the issue is on my end. Controller almost went through the screen last night.

Not just you. BTB is hit or miss (usually miss). H5 was working for me at first then I couldn't get in MM for two days. Today it works again. I've changed nothing with my router since then. It's the game.

Thanks! Well I'm glad you are having issues too. ;)
Edit: Oh you silly piece of shit MCC you just locked up on me while searching for players. You silly silly game you.

As someone living in the US pacific northwest, no.

Relatively speaking, it's astronomically improved over how it was at launch, but if we choose to have standards higher than "it makes for a half-decent coaster", it's still got plenty of serious issues. The last session I played with friends did see a few consecutive games with only relatively minor* annoyances... and then MCC decided that it aggressively did not want our party to exist, and we weren't able to play another game together that evening. And outside of the party and MM infrastructure, there are still a number of major problems that haven't been dealt with (i.e. Halo 3 forge gametype selection not working).

*"Minor" as in "not bad enough to make us quit for the day." Weird teams, MM system locking up with "9/8 players", the usual.

Whether or not you like Halo 3's audio, MCC doesn't port it very well. There's some missing filtering, the core mix is different, and the directionality wasn't done correctly.

LOL I havent been able to find a game since late November. I'm sorry but the problems you have are definitely in the "more or less working" range to where I am with this.

As long as you can find games (buggy, party splitting etc) whatever they are, its still something that a bunch of players dont have.

Still no par score achievements for Halo 4. I should have unlocked all except 'Forerunner' by now. So annoying.

Are you, by chance, leaving the game in any way (pressing the Xbox button / snapping / etc / suspending the app) on any of these levels?

I have an issue where the game will disable / bug achievements until I restart the level if I do any of the above.

I'm halfway through my first play through on Halo 4....and man...wow is this story terrible. It's like it was originally some fan fiction written by a 13 year old. I mean really.

Master Chief's armor being upgraded with no explanation, Forerunners having a war with humans in the past and wiping them out? Then they brought humans back for whatever reason? And then the Prometheans being robot human hybrid things? And finally Master Chief being the "chosen one"? What the hell is this shit? Why do people give Halo 4 a free pass with its single player? Horrible.

I don't think MC was the 'chosen one' as such. I feel like people take that cutscene too literally. The way I interpreted it was that the Librarian planted 'seeds' that would set humanity along a certain path (like how we went from cavemen to spacefarers. Not Luke Skywalker, culmination of some prophecy bullshit)

And the Prometheans weren't bad. Original Prometheans were an organic Forerunner military controlled by the Didact. When the Flood arrived, the Didact tried to make himself immune to Flood infection. Which failed. His last option was to compose the Prometheans into machines. But even then he didn't have enough of these composed Prometheans to make a difference, so he went to the Halo ring and composed humans.

My explanation is horrible. But it makes sense.
