Has the PS5 already cemented itself as the worst Playstation generation in history?

The Slim was as low as £312 this week bundled with Astro.

I've gone back and forth over buying one.

When I've tallied the games I want to play there is only really Astro and GT7. But I don't think I'd have time to invest in GT7.

It'd be nice to play a none potato version of Apex and Rocket League again (playing on Switch currently). And if I want to play GTA 6, I think I'm going to need to pick up a PS5. Sea of Thieves is on PS5 too but I'm really hedging my bets on a Switch 2 release.

Tough one. I don't even solely blame Sony for the slim pickings, it's just the state of the West in general.

Same here, one's been in my Very shopping basket all week!

If you've got the spare cash, do it!

Astro Bot is awesome but will be over quite quickly and not offer the challenge of 3D Marios. Its still good. GT7 is brilliant but I am also guilty of not playing it enough.

My PS5s are just sat there waiting for games, if I turn it on once or twice a year ill be happy I think.

My only concern on GTA6 is 60FPS. If they can deliver that I will get it, but I legit can not go back to 30 FPS.

But you've just said your PS5s are sat there waiting for games? Not a good purchase for me if so

History-Of-Sony-PlayStation-PS1-PS2-PS3-PS4-PS5.jpg

In 31 years in the industry, Sony has put out a total of nine distinct platforms; however, if we only limit it to their core home consoles, their history can be neatly split into five eras.

Which of these eras do you think is the worst?

PS3 era was abysmal at the time and has aged horribly. Japanese-developed games were largely irrelevant and technical performance was trash across the board. The biggest compliment that I can pay the PS3 generation is that it pushed me to discover older systems I'd never owned before, like the Sega Saturn. Which I still think is a lot more fun than the PS3, frankly.

PS5 gen isn't impressive, but I don't actively hate it like I did the PS3.

Anyone voting for the PS2 is a fucking coward.

PlayStation 5 no doubt.

Currently own 3 old PS2s, and a PS4.

My old PS3 died a long time ago and looking for used super slims on sale.

They probably go in order from best to worst for me. PS1 and PS2 were probably equally as good but PS1 nostalgia is winning me over.

Current gen might as well not exist. It's the first time I'm without a current gen Sony console. Sold my PS5 because there's pretty much no reason to own one as a PC gamer.

EDIT: I must have misread the poll. LEAST favorite is PS5. Disregard my vote.

I have a PS5 Pro for console games that are fucked up on PC and Sony exclusives that I don't want to wait two years for.

It has no other reason to exist.

This console gen sucks the hardest of every gen ever.

PS3. Crap exclusives, inferior multiplats, awful UI and the worst controller. PS4 made it completely obsolete since most of what mattered got ported fairly quickly.

Early days of PS Triple(2006-2009)
Third partys were shit compare to X360(remember PS3 version GTA4 and HL2 LOL)First party was crap too, 599$ price tag and gets the worst experience, No rumble controller,YLoD

Lots of great memories with PSX/PSOne as well as with PS2. Especially couch co-op with mates, PES, Tekken etc. tournament's, then ps3 with many interesting IPs, worst one have to be ps "remaster/remake"5, ps4 was simply trying to play it too safe.

Ps1 by far.

You just can't beat a resonance era of new and exciting. And like over night racing games didn't suck anymore. 3d fighters became a big deal and games like metal gear solid showed us promises of what 3d could bring while masterpieces like Castlevania SOTN gave us the pinnacle of 2d gameplay.

Did you read the question right man?

PS2 wins the gold medal for obvious reasons.

PS4 is the dark horse silver medal winner that many counted out before the race.

PS1 takes the bronze.

PS3 twisted an ankle coming off the starting block but still crossed the finish line with dignity.

PS5 has been arrested in the parking lot of the stadium for selling counterfeit PS4 games and a "pro" system that is somehow worse than the base model.

Whatever they are doing right now. In five years they only about two, maybe three games that I like.

Wait, didn't we have a thread like that recently?

Whatever era it was from when a British person posts one of the 'adverts' they caught on 'the telly' like it was the most transformative piece of media ever created and it's just some dumpy looking dude coming home from work and it's raining which isn't fun but then he sits on the couch and he can pretend he's not stuck on a dark island where it's always winter but never Christmas.

That's my least favorite era of PlayStation.

This one but it's not necessary a PlayStation 5 problem as much as an older me problem. There are still plenty of great games that I've been playing but I don't feel the same joy as before.

We're 5 years into the PS5 era and there's been zero reason to upgrade from PS4 besides faster load times....well it's actually a really good heater in the winter...there's no debate here

PS3 was weak. Had all kinds of cool things about it but they were mostly underused. The exclusives always seemed to miss the mark somehow. So many games ran shitty. It was the peak era of hand-holding and bland games. Indies werent filling the gaps yet.

I used mine a lot and enjoyed it. The ps3 itself wasn't the problem, but that era of games and technology.

Oops, accidentally voted for PS2. Actual opinion is the PS5; it's the first generation from Sony I have simply not participated in and I have no intention of doing so.

The PS4 wasn't great, but it was salvaged by PSVR, which was absolutely wonderful, in my opinion. However, the PS4 generation overall got worse as it went on until the only thing Sony made were wanna-be movie games with bloated budgets and and Gran Turismo. With the PS5, they went all in on getting paid; higher costs, paid patches, and a focus on GaaS. They completely abandoned attempts at new and interesting, and doubled down on big sequels that looked like over-priced expansion packs. If the PS4 got worse as it went on, then the PS5 has started going backwards. Happy to sit this one out entirely. I'll just get a PS6 if it looks better and then play all of their games once they've remastered them. Again.

But the PS3 had so many new IPs from Sony and third parties. I believe that's the biggest highlight of that generation.

Early Ps3 era. I went hard 360 and its because of the games. No Alan Wake, no Bioshock, no mass effect 1. And the Killzone or Resistance trilogy did nothing for me when Halo was at its peak.
Of course, it was also the gen that saw mgs4, gow 3 and the entire paradigm shift of Naughty Dog so it wasnt all that bad of a console gen but those first few years were rough.

You mean by that periodically and not it's contents. PS3 is the worst by a long shot, The purchasing power in 2006 is so weak, it's contents excluding 3d parties are unjustifiable, online have started to make since after 2011. All the nonsense that happened was the main reason we get remastered games to this date.

I'll pile on that it's this one. They've wasted resources and developers on live-service games that have been crap outside of Helldivers 2, their other games are taking longer to produce with diminished returns in graphical improvement, they left numerous IP behind while saying they don't have enough, and they're not making many new IP from scratch.

PS3 would be in second place for the numerous problems in the first half of its gen, but climbed back in the later half.

PS2 is still their GOAT console, and it's not even close. PS1 and PS4 can fight each other for the remaining spots.

2006 a 2013....Not because it was a bad era for video games, but from 2006 to 2011, or a little later, it was the worst period of my life.

Then the PS4 came along, and coincidentally, it improved my time. The current PS5 is here, and it sucks.

PS4:
- Paid online
- Zero backwards compatibility
- Barely any exclusives
- Sony games became worse
- Sony gatekept crossplay/crossprogression

If it's just for first party output. Which i kinda have to grade these things on because I always own all platforms, I souls put it down to ps4 or ps5.

You could toss it up due to some much cross gen games. So maybe you say os5 as its the second console that's having a lot of these remasters and poor first party output imo.

Except returnal. But one great game can't save a gen, so far.

Best era of gaming is ps1/ps2. Anyone voting that is just crazy.

I'm going with ps3 era as the worst, I skipped that entire gen as boring as it was.
