Has the PS5 already cemented itself as the worst Playstation generation in history?

What's Sony's worst generation?

lol I misread the title as "favorite" and voted ps1... disregard.

Lmao, i misvoted. Didn't mean to vote the goat, wanted to vote PS5.

Whoops I was half asleep and thought it was favourite era so I voted ps1. Least favourite is ps5.

Same here. I feel like all of us who voted PS1 misread the poll.

It should be the PS3....but at least Sony fucking tried.
And I'm actually quite fond of the PS3 era despite poor performance in games there was some fantastic games created in that era and while the PS5 has had some great 3rd party games it's probably the worst when it comes to everything else.

As someone who didn't own ps1 to ps3 consoles. Out of ps4 and ps5, I would say ps5( especially since Sony first party hasn't hit the groove yet with most exclusives also being on ps4?.

Okay, for all the people who somehow managed to misread an eight word sentence, I've enabled the change vote functionality so you can change your votes from your most loved to your least loved ones

Same. Stupid OP asked a different question in the poll than the thread title.
This is exactly what I'm talking about, the POLL AND THE THREAD TITLE ARE THE SAME

Unpopular opinion, but PS2 Era is the weakest.

Weak exclusives, MGS2 was the biggest letdown of the generation for me. Never took to TimeKillers. GTAIII trilogy is great but came to Xbox eventually and looked better for it. Final Fantasy X and XII are good but not the paragons of JRPGs some people make them out to be.

Everything that came out I really loved was either an Xbox exclusive (Jade Empire, KOTOR, Halo II, JSRF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Phantasy Star Online 2) or looked+played better on Xbox (Soul Calibur 2, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2, Splinter Cell, Psychonaughts) or even Gamecube (Resident Evil 4). Doesn't help that PC was killing it at the time with World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2.

PS5.

All of the other ones had always something special and a very good games catalogue.
But PS5 is for far pretty dissapointing..

Maybe it is the whole current gen or we are getting used to the games etc. but so far this gen is the most disliked one for me.

It does not help that games need 5-6+ years to develop and get released...

We're 5 years into the PS5 era and there's been zero reason to upgrade from PS4 besides faster load times....well it's actually a really good heater in the winter...there's no debate here
KCD2, Demon's Souls, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank, Clair Obscur, RE4R, Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Astro Bot, Baldurs Gate 3, Spiderman 2 and almost allPS4 games running better. It's really picking up steam this year, but if you don't feel like there's any good games, might as well stick with your livingroom boeing constantly crashing when trying to play RDR2.

But the PS3 had so many new IPs from Sony and third parties. I believe that's the biggest highlight of that generation.

And personally, I like precisely *none of them*. I seriously can't think of a single new IP from that generation that I enjoyed, especially Sony's stuff. Again, I admit that that's down to personal taste more than anything, but I've never seen such a consistent string of complete misses as we got during that generation.

Current gen, their first party output hasn't once tempted me to get a ps5.

Skipped both consoles last gen and neither MS or Sony have got anywhere close to 360/PS3 glory days.

A tie between early PS3 and PS5.

But PS3 rebounded after about 2 years. When I look at my PS3 collection, it wasn't so bad. There were many genres covered, and many games came out in rapid succession. Entire trilogies of Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet, Motorstorm on top of third party stuff like Mass Effect, Dead Space and Souls. Multiple TES and Fallout games. And I see games like NBA Street, Virtua Tennis, Sega Rally and Ridge Racer, franchises which are pretty much dead nowadays.

PS3 had free online and I had a blast with Warhawk, Killzone 2, MW1, Motorstorm PR and Bad Company 2 to name a few. I played much more than now, which is also because of more spare time but games were far cheaper. I would often search bargain bins and bought games a few months down the line for 10 bucks.

PS5 has good games, but its really a few. Returnal and DeS are 4-5 years old. Astro Bot was great. There are some good games on the horizon but the PS5 is turning 5 this year. Remember the amount of quality games being released by 2011 on the PS3 and 360.

Literal worst and best are at opposite ends of the timeline. PS1 is amazing with a library of weird & inventive quirky games. On the other end you have a console with the most by the numbers, bland focus tested garbage. It's like Sony are terrified of doing anything weird and wonderful anymore. Even PS3&4 had really neat and unusual stuff like eye of judgement & wonderbook sure they aren't killer apps but least they added quirky variety. Bring back the sony that used to bring out stuff like parappa & vib ribbon. Because 15 versions of horizon isn't doing it for me.

PS5 is the only Sony console I don't own and I doubt that will change, it's library is just not appealing to me at all.

Let's see...

PS1 = Great
PS2 = God tier
PS3 = rough start but second half of the gen they came out swinging, Good overall
PS4 = Great
PS5 = Not great, not terrible

so yes least favourite has to be PS5

PS5, Astrobot aside I have absolutely zero interest in buying one and would struggle to name five AAA exclusives on it.

Hopefully Astrobot will get a pc port as I don't want to have to wait for years to pick up a cheap PS5 to play it.

PS2 I'd say had the most inconsistent first-party in terms of overall quality. High highs, weird lows.

Because it was a very experimental era. Square and Capcom would release racing games, something they won't touch with a 10 foot pole right now. The Bouncer was another of those experimental games. You won't see projects like this from them anymore.

Sony also experimented a lot, with games like Parappa, Ape Escape, Fantavision, Socom but also mainstream games like GT and God of War and ofcourse Jak. Their first party portfolio wasn't huge yet but they published a lot like Level 5 games and Square was largely exclusive too. DMC, Onimusha, Ace Combat, SH, MGS, GTA were (initially) locked to PS2. The PS2 has such a great library.

Hard to say anything other than the gen where they sabotaged themselves for half a decade requiring all their studios to waste years on cancelled projects.

right now.
Aside from the general state of the industry I can honestly say that there have never been fewer Sony games I´ve been interested in so far into a gen.
Sold my PS and haven`t looked back.

ps5
when I borrowed my friend's ps4, I had great time with it
when I borrowed his ps5 later on... it picked up dust for months
what a soulless console

PS3 by far, almost I stopped to play video games with those frame rates.

Not only was it bad, but so many of the games were all dark and brown looking. I couldn't retreat to Nintendo either because they had their gimmick console and honestly the main Wii game that didn't leave me disappointed with the end result was Galaxy 1/2 (yes I'm looking at you Zelda). Pretty lame gen where I bought and played a lot of games just to feel deflated then had real fun on my PC to feel better.

Ps2 came out during my gaming dark ages so I choose that gen. Got every Sony device except psp and ps2.

People hating on ps3 era was not in my bingo card

PS3 was fine, I think a lot of the haters never even owned one. Yeah it started sort of slow, and the most damning thing is even despite it having more powerful hardware no 3rd parties bothered to take advantage of it and a lot of 360 versions of games. I think the 360 definitely won that generation but it was a very good generation overall between the two consoles (Wii sucks).
But MotorStorm 1 and 2, Uncharted 1 and 2, Last of Us, Killzone 2, Dragon's Crown, GodofWar3, MGS4, Journey, bunch of killer apps exclusive to the PS3.

PS5. Fewer releases and those we've had were not any better than their predecessors. In fact, Last of Us 2 and Ragnarok were significantly worse while Horizon and Spiderman 2 were very cut and paste.

For me it should be the ps3 era but I just liked the vibe of that era thanks to E3 and TGS. So for now, it is the PS5 era. This current era has almost completely killed any hype I have for Playstation.

Obviously this era. Some of the biggest exclusives were cross gen and other than Astrobot and Spider-Man, I am struggling to come up with a good reason to buy a PS6 other than to play Astrobot 2 earlier than the eventual PC release.
