Have you realized that we haven't seen a single beautiful/sexy female character in both Sony's and MS's shows??

I'll always love the older Tomb Raiders because of this. I really fucking miss it.

i agreed what a hot fucking piece of ass

Standards of beauty never changed in cultures that worshipped the human body: physically fit males and females are abound in Greek, Roman, etc. cultures.

Ugly and attractive isnt defined by physical fitness though. It may be a part of it for some. The spectrum of whats defined as attractive is a lot more broad than some on here seems to think, and just because we ripped off the Romans (who ripped off the greeks) doesnt mean their definition of attractiveness is somehow a default in all human brains. If you start to look at cultures that weren't heavily invested in what western culture became today you start to see very different patterns. The Mayans (women literally carved into their face) for example or even African cultures (which im aware also had some Greek and Roman influences). I know a lot of people dont like to hear it but so much of who we are is defined very early on, whether it be on a physiological level in relation to our time in the womb, genetics etc or on a social level. Its a balance of both. If you really start to look into who we are and how the brain works you start to realise this 'freedom' people talk about in regards to who they think is attractive just doesn't exist. If you start to look into hormones and their purpose in relation to mating you also start to realise you really have little to no choice on who makes an impression on you. A lot of these systems at work are still being discovered by actual scientists

A lot of people here who saw my original post seem to think im into artificially changing what i think should be deemed attractive. I understand there are some real nut cases out there thinking you can just change nature and say 'These qualities are attractive now'. This isnt what im saying. My point was that there is evidence of constant change, it may not be drastic change in the broad sense but fashion in general changes and when nature changes we change with it, creating a new definition of what nature is with every new generation. You simply dont have the control over it you think you do because a lot of these systems at work in your brain are ignited before the conscious part even knows what its doing. You're brain isnt even fully online until 25 years old. To those who say theres only one type of attractive......ok well what about the idea of tastes? There are guys who like obese women, i think its gross but its a taste someone likes, who gives a shit. People like all sorts of looks, there are some that are more common yes, simply because western culture has been the dominating culture for so long. This can change very quickly and your grandchildren would probably look at your taste in women and shudder. I mean hell.....have you even seen the difference between native English women and mainland European women during the first and second world war. Before mass immigration of the past century even white women looked vastly different depending on the borders you resided in. Just because the definition of attractiveness seems to have condensed down into a few looks, doesn't mean that was an evolutionary trait, it just means we align more closely now due to there being only 1 internet, 1 instagram, 1 pornhub etc. Our global culture is now pretty much drinking from the same well now and this is a fairly new phenomena.

I don't make the rules, nature is incredibly unfair and doesnt give a shit about your opinion or mine. Theres a great book called 'Behave' by Robert Sopolsky. It covers a lot on the complete lack of freedom we have as beings constantly being bombarded by outside stimuli. Genetics, society and everything in between defines who you are, not you. Of course we're all human so we're more alike than different but we cant just ignore those differences and say 'There is one definition for attractive', im actually surprised a lot of people here think that. Maybe the failure was on me with my 'pretentious' post as someone kindly put it. No im not a scientist so if anyone wants more clarification than please consult some source material.

The jist of my original point was that you cant control what this generation or future generations are going to find attractive. All these people who are developing these games are subject to the same influence, but obviously a different one that many of you are uncomfortable with, and thats okay. Even i'm uncomfortable with a lot of what people are trying to do to games these days. But all im seeing in this thread is a bunch of people who want female characters to resemble the ones that were around when they were younger and falsely equating that to 'There are no more attractive ladies in video games anymore'........yeah maybe for you. But the spectrum of human tastes in a broad one. Dont worry guys Abby cant strangle your children into liking purple haired trannies. I think you guys will be okay.

I'm sorry but no, you are speaking from a place of intense personal bias. You don't get to dictate what is feminine, or "being a woman" - this is just a clash of your old fashioned, immature outdated values that want to place women in a box that is pleasing and nonthreatening to you, and the reality that a woman is whatever the fuck she wants to be and doesn't care what you want her to be. And women in games are slowly becoming a bit better at this. This isn't SJW nonsense but just the reality of the world. Catch up or become an incel for life.

Male feminists are the bottom of the food chain. lol

I'm struggling to find anything related to my post here.

But I you want to discuss how "similar" humans are, then don't, because they are not.
A quick example: if you don't clearly remember where each of your pieces of clothing lies in your house or what colors each of the person was wearing on a party a week ago: you are not even equipped to argue about objective beauty of things. :messenger_sunglasses:

I think Aloy looked pretty good in the reveal trailer

Edit: Why is everyone laughing 😕

I like Aloy's design as well, but she is about as close to real girl next door as you will find. OP is asking if anyone else noticed the total lack of male fanfare (women in bikinis, showing lots of skin, etc). Both showcases were basically devoid of any of that.

this was aloy in her concept art but the 3D artist made her ugly with a big forehead

Nah the artist that did these (she's quite famous and worked with GG in the concepting of Aloy phase) just draws this childish kids shit that I hate, sort of anime but from a Western artist POV and 99% teenage girls all the time. I'm glad they didn't go with this look and went for more realistic.

Interesting. You take into account the subjective experience and internal life of every person you meet? The cashier, the homeless man, the beautiful woman, the guy handing out pamphlets? How big is your Dunbar number? You must be exhausted.
Wow... 2 whole actual days later they've finally come back with a reply, long after that ship sailed and no one actually gives a shit what you've got to say, because we've all moved on. What happened? Took too much meth and suddenly woke up from your haze well over 48 hours later?

This thread is starting to creep me out. And reading this comment makes being black here on GAF uncomfortable sometimes.
I'm not saying it as an insult or that I'm annoyed by it. I actually find it funny because they're replacing a stereotype with another, arguably more pronounced, stereotype.
Now every black female protagonist has an afro, has an attitude and is all up in your business. Almost all of them blend with each other.
If that came off as insulting, I apologise.

I can respect that. But, what you're seeing mainly are black woman characters being created with "natural" hair. Only one of those women had an afro. Plus in the black community, we don't view afros (or what some may think is an afro) to be a "stereotype". It's just a natural hairstyle that normal people have.

But I now understand the point you were trying to make and hope the video game industry doesn't typecast black women in games as only one "type".

I honestly dont see the big deal.

This is how I feel on GAF a decent amount of the time.

It's fine if someone wants to make a "this is my preference" thread but it's weird to me whenever someone says "I actually think she's kind of sexy" and then someone responds with "no she's ugly". Is the point of this thread to discuss only what sublimit sublimit finds beautiful and sexy and whether we agree or not?

I also wish some of GAF would be wiling to entertain the idea that maybe facial capture isn't perfect. Comparing in-game versions models/actresses to Bayonetta and Twintelle is apples and oranges.

It's kind of incredible how these specific designs have groomed already significant portion of games into actually liking them even to arousal.

There is an androgynous push it was often by Japan to make males more feminine like in final fantasy. But the west is making females more manly.

Buff girls have been hot for the last million years or so.

These developers only do this with the women. Notice how the male character looks identical to his real life counter part. It's totally sexist, but good luck convincing a feminist of that. It would seem western game devs are actually at war with femininity.

Not sure why she transformed into virtual Roma person (gypsy) That's the representation which nobody needs.

They're definitely missing an element of glamour. Glamour seems to have gone out of fashion for Western games developers.

Japan is perpetually fixated on glamour, so we should be fine.

I think we should be more concerned about a lack of beautiful AAA next gen only games that will launch before 2022. As of now I am not convinced we will get any. Hopeful, but not convinced.

nah let's honest they made her that ugly forehead because it was easier to fit the helmets lol.

Aloy suffer from that bad light good light sindrome from seinfeld, sometimes she looks fine, sometimes she straight up look like a fat man face...or wayne rooney.
Her child version is nightmare fuel in any light condition tho.

No she suffers from big forehead and a chubby boy jawline

Admittedly she grew out of her ugly phase though

The jist of my original point was that you cant control what this generation or future generations are going to find attractive.

This articles claims the opposite
Placed before photos of a fashion model and a plain-looking woman, a newborn will be drawn to the prettier face.
The finding undermines the theory that people develop an idea of attractiveness from the experience of mixing with different individuals.
Instead, it appears that everyone is born with a pre-programmed understanding of what makes a person attractive.
"Attractiveness is not simply in the eye of the beholder, it is in the brain of the newborn infant right from the moment of birth and possibly prior to birth," the University of Exeter researcher said.

Also here:
Babies looked longer at normal and at chimeric attractive faces than at normal and at chimeric unattractive faces. There were no developmental differences between the younger and older infants: all preferred to look at the attractive faces. Infants as young as 4 months showed similarity with adults in the 'aesthetic perception' of attractiveness and this preference was not based on the vertical symmetry of the face.

This try-hard over exaggerated expressions is a cringe fest. The devs are probably very serious and think this looks cool and amazing but it really looks like the character just escaped from a mental hospital.

Eh, that shit fit the trailer like a glove. It was hype. It does look dumb in a gif though. Also, I can see you didn't play the first game given your last comment.

Beauty is subjective. What you think is beautiful was taught to you by those who were trying to sell a certain aesthetic when you were younger. Young people playing these new games will have a different perspective of beauty as the culture in entertainment changes.

What you're feeling right now is the struggle and frustration of getting old as the world that you know gets replaced by a new one defined by generations younger than you. It happened to your parents and their parents also. The only thing we can strive for is to not sound like our parents. It's the only control we have. So personally I welcome this new brand of beauty, it won't be around for long and will be replaced just as quickly as it's inception by younger generations. The cycle continues. Then I can feed off the tears of others as they come to the same realisation. Because bitterness is the intoxicant of the ageing. Its amazing to be able to roll my eyes at younger generations whilst knowing in the grand scheme of things it all means absolutely nothing. Especially how women look in video games.

Just give me a floating ball of light that can shoot guns and let's move on.
This is the best, most mature and most well-thought take I've ever seen regarding this issue.

Resetera needs to stop banning so many people ASAP because many of them are crawling back here.
Hey I resemble that remark! Though my 2 week is up in like another day. Going forward I don't know... they clearly don't want me there. At least this place seems like you don't have to dance on eggshells as much but the traffic isn't there. I like the general format these sites use as it makes it pretty useful as a news aggregator. Though then again when a site bans discussion of vast swaths of the industry it hurts its usefulness.

But yeah, I can't argue, despite feeling like this place could use more traffic I don't think RE diaspora in general are what any site needs.
