Haha, forgive me if it's been shuffled under the stairs... I've been on a CD buying kick lately. Yesterday was the long awaited release (for me at least) of In Search of Sunrise 4. ISOS3 is one of my favorite albums of all time, reminds me of going to see Tiesto for the first time at Area 2 at Jones Beach and getting his autograph... Tiesto's last full mix album was Nyana in 2003 (which was a bit disappointing), but I've been waiting patiently for this:

For me the choice is obvious:

I've only listened to disk 1 so far but it's totally worth the wait! It's got a very Balearic sound recalling the great days of trance from '99, '00... Definitely worth it if you're a fan and a nice start if you want to get into electronic music.

jk God its infectious.

I'm listening to John Williams a history of work. Trying to make a comp of tunes for a video i'm making.

Oh i'm also listening to Coldplay's XY for some reason.

Pretty good, I must say.

I've heard the name Kings of Convenience thrown around a bit in electronic music rags and such - was always curious about them, what kind of music do they do?

It's a bit hard to describe, I've heard them classified as "Whisper Rock" before. Very minimalistic and airy in terms of sound, they also throw in some groovy dance beats in a few songs.

I've been listening to the Dead Can Dance discs from their recent 2005 European spring tour. Awesome stuff, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in October in Chicago. :)

Oh god, this is totally awesome. "I'VE SEEN HER NAKED, TWICE!" :lol Right up there with The Futureheads, if you ask me.

B0003JAHBA.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I put off listening to this for so long, it just sounded too "heavy" for me. Since getting it though, I've listened to it at least twice a day. Fantastic.

B0007YJGFE.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I expected more. It's just far too disjointed, there's some awesome tracks in there but even those often have interludes stuck to them and shit like that. And I swear, hearing "ThE FURther ADVENturRES of LORd quaS" is going to DRIVE ME TO KILL.

B0009FGWIK.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I like it, especially 'The Corner' and 'Faithful'. But it doesn't really grab me, I dunno, maybe I'll get into it more sometime.

Only just got this, I guess I can say I like it after one and a half listens.

pjberri: I'm very interested in that Isoleé disc -- more impressions, please!

djtiesto: I like Kings of Convenience (nitewulf would have something more detailed to say), but I prefer Erlend Øye's solo work more. The KoC remix album is also pretty hip, but I never seem to listen to it that much. Also, +100 for Ulrich Schnauss. I'm STILL not sick of that album...even after a hundred listens.

I'm too lazy to look up album art, but here's the short list:

The Decemberists, Picaresque
Brainstorm, Lumines Remixes
Eels, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
Fat Jon the Ample Soul Physician, Lightweight Heavy
The Album Leaf, In A Safe Place
My Morning Jacket, It Still Moves

Arcade Fire -- Arcade Fire EP (rereleased yesterday)
Razrez -- The Dirty Beat EP
Belle and Sebastian -- Push Barman to Open Old Wounds
Sufjan Stevens -- Illinois

How is the Arcade Fire EP? As good as Funeral, worth buying?

Not as good as Funeral, but totally worth buying.

Supposedly they were selling this at their shows, but it wasn't at the Seattle show back in December, and they weren't selling it at the Gorge last month when I saw them again. It was worth it to me just for that reason alone.

Yeah, actually I got that album based on a few recommendations here at GAF (I think this was probably the first album I bought based on the opinion of here), and the fact I've heard some of his songs on other mix albums (Nick Warren:Reykjavik and Sasha:Involver) and liked what I've heard. My non electronic friends really liked the CD too, asked what it was when I was playing it out in my car. It's really the perfect comedown CD, too... awesome to listen to after a late nite of clubbing or whatnot.

Dammit! Is Television really THAT good? I'll I've heard about the last MONTH is how every single band from '00 on is a rip-off of Television.

Dalek are the most extreme group of musicians I have ever seen in concert. God, I want to see them again so badly.

I've been on a big Smiths kick myself. Marr and Morrissey need to get together and realize the cash they could make. And fuck, if Throbbing Gristle was able to do a reunion tour, The Smiths can.

Yes, they are consistently amazing live. Awesome stuff... easily one of the most vital acts in Hip-Hop today.

mad props to whoever listed matisyahu, im hoping to catch him in concert in september. dude lives close by me though.

as for Kings of Convenience, you should start with this, since you are mostly into electronic music:
B00005Q36C.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

then if you like that, definitely pick up "riot on an empty street".
their actual sound (aside from the remix album 'versus') is basically very similar to late 60's singer songwriter stuff a la simon and garfunkel, also a touch of james taylor here and there. basically very laid back, romantic, melancholy music.

and definitely check out erlend's (one half of KoC) solo projects eventually, as jinx mentioned. his solo stuff is very good.

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!
all i've listened to the last few days:

TG did a one off + one, didn't they?

Oh, and that isn't Morrissey in your avatar, is it? It looks sort of like him, minus the hair.

Eminem, have you heard The Faint? They're a lot like The Bravery (well, perhaps vice-versa), but it has more of a techno edge. Check out Wet from Birth- it's probably their easy album to get in to.

Yeah, but Wet is easier to get into. First time I heard Danse, I didn't like it. But after I listened to Wet, I really appreciated Danse and couldn't listen to Wet.

So now I have both albums (I had Arcade before it went missing), but hardly listen to Wet... you see? It's a gateway album.

Listened to it a couple more times, and I'm really liking it. If I were to compare it to anything I'd say it's kinda like Vitalic's recent release, OK Cowboy, often combined with the more melodic nature found in Daft Punk's Discovery and the ethereal quality of M83's stuff.
So far I haven't noticed any bad tracks, and there's at least four or so of the ten that I really like.

I'm a process of elimination music listener—as long as something doesn't have the things I don't like, which there is a long list of, I'm good to go. So I guess if I were to accuse this of anything negative it would be that there are a couple tracks that haven't really grabbed me yet, there isn't anything 'bad' about them, and maybe they just ask for more from the listener than the ones I have said I do like, I'm not quite sure yet.

Anyway, like I said, so far it's pretty good. If you're a fan of any of the aforementioned artists you'll probably be doing yourself a favour by checking this out.

Do not listen to these people.

The Faint is a terrible studio act. Great fun live, but just downright bad on their albums.
