HBO Original | The Last of Us | Part II OT | You Can't Stop This

The Bella Ramsey casting in this poisoned the adaptation from day one. The response of people wanting to sexualise a juvenile character is not the case either. She is just a terrible actress and post transition Elliot Page would have been a legitimate better choice

I didn't watch season 2 yet but I'm curious if he's lying about it too

Wouldn't surprise me, this dude just gets worse. Found him quite entertaining about a year ago, but a few times he's come out with absolute nonsense and was just moaning for the sake of it, so stopped watching him.

Haven't watch it after episode 2. And being honest I think I'm just gonna drop this.

While I'm not a fan of the Last of Us 2 story, Ellie as the main character of Part 2 works.

Here it's just horrible to see the actress that plays her her on screen. They feel like two completely different personas.

I think the effect they are trying to pull with the series is to make people like more Abby instead of Ellie.

I guess I'm in the minority. Just finished episode 4 and thought it was great. Not only did they nail the music store scene but it actually might be better than the game.
I also may be an outlier where I'm not concerned with an accurate representation from the source material. I thing overall the story is told better in the game for both seasons but I think the tv show has been really good.

The problem is they had to throw out all the bullshit about Abbie and her muscles and they are now rightly being asked if it was so important to the game and caused all this drama, why is it suddenly not an issue? People are vindicated and pointing out the hypocrisy. And no, the explanation about focusing on drama is crap - as is we can't find anyone better than Kaitlyn Dever to play this role - which again takes an enormous dump on giving diverse actors roles even if there are better non-physical/immutable alternatives. The whole thing is a shitshow. Own your bollicks.

Like I said, how ridiculous would be it be Bella Ramsey squaring up to someone like Gina Carrano. And Abbie couldn't be muscley yet Ellie is taking down WLFs? What a fucking mess.

As for the show, it's weird in parts. Feels like about 4 different people all want their own little unique stamp to be evident, but it's watchable and enjoyable enough as it's own thing.

Dina is hard carrying a load of these episodes. She is so environment aware, and seems to be the lead while Ellie is some weird country bumpkin who doesn't even realise wearing holes in skechers is an issue, or smashing tank lids down.

I think Bella is the weakest part of the show right now (Dina, Tommy, Abbie, Jacob, Isaac and Gail are killing it - fuck me, even Carlisle and Seth have been solid) . I loved her in GoT and she was alright in the BBC adaptation of 'His Dark Matetials' but her performance in this role is pretty poor. Of course, that can change as we haven't seen enough of the others, the lady from Intergalactic may also be awful or Lev - we will have to see.

I'd say it's probably 65-35 split of being a good show with terrible scenes/decision's in prominent places.

They also play fast and loose with the cordyceps tendrils in the show like, no one's on the look out for them, not taking steps to avoid them, they cross entire states without ever encountering any, they just show up when the plot has to advance.

Say what you want about the game but it know what it is and fully commits to it. The show is good but it is all over the place. They seem like some kids on an adventure in an abandoned building instead of two people on a revenge mission.

Ellie also had a completely different reaction to Dinas pregnancy in the game. I guess they realize that the show is popular with the suburban mom demographic and Ellie telling a pregnant woman she is a burden would put them off. Ellie in the show just doesn't have that murderous rage that she has in the game. In the show she comes across as a kid throwing a tantrum and this has nothing to do with how Bella Ramsey looks.

I also would love a spinoff based on the WLF and Scar conflict. Jeffrey Wright is killing it as Issac.

I'm playing the game right now and it's amazing how much of a difference a pissed off demeanor makes to Ellie's character. Like, the simple fact that she's so angry makes it seem viable that she can find a way to kill her way through so many wolves/ seraphites despite not being much more physically intimidating than Bella Ramsey. I never once questioned how she was doing all of this stuff while playing the game. She's like a female Joe Pesci running around Seattle.

Its just not about that... games and movies are not the same .. even if telling the same story, your brain will treat differently, you will never really look for real life realism in games, but in movies ? You automatically will, specially movies grounded in some reality. So a 5 foot tall 90 pounds CGI/animated girl kicking huge mans asses in game you can easily not even think about it, even more because is "you" that is doing it... now watching the same thing on screen with a real person ? Theres so much fake shit your brain can ignore.

Anyway at least people can finally stop pretending and coping that Bella was a "great" casting choice... I have a great casting choice for her if they gender swap Sloth in the Goonies remake.

Do the world a favor and cancel the show

Reboot as a movie following part 1 and for the love of god, cast it more accurately

I do like the idea that the TV newcomers get to see the shit writing that plagued the 2nd game

It was weird how earlier in the episode it seemed like Dina was more focused in getting revenge than Ellie lmao.

The spores introduction was fucking great.
Jessie coming in last minute was also great. Plus...stalkers are fucking scary.
The seraphites hanging the WLF guy and the murder scene was just like in the game.

Everything as soon as Ellie was alone was peak TLOU. The spores scene near the end was good.

Set design this episode was through the roof.

Also nice way to end the episode! Already teasing us next week's flashback(s).

Only 2 episodes to go though.

I thought the same exact thing about the beginning of the episode Dina more fired up about revenge than Ellie. But in the end the real Ellie came out.

Btw I called it earlier in this thread. I knew they were going to have Jesse or Tommy come out of nowhere to save the day since they never showed them leave. I think this episode was better than last week solid episode, but I thought that part was corny. I'm just not big on last second saves. It would've been better if they let us know they left. I know the only reason they didn't was to have that scene where they want us to think Ellie and/or Dina will die even though even non gamers will know they won't die, so they can have Jesse save the day out of nowhere. IMO it was really corny.

But aside from that the episode was fine and Ellie gets her revenge. Though it felt a little unearned because leading up to it she didn't seem that focused on it. It was like a switch just flipped out of nowhere.

Next week is probably an entire flashback episode. Finally, the museum! I hope they nail it man, please. Then it probably ends at the aquarium.

Nah...that scene in the theater when she started singing "if i ever were to lose you" you can tell she's about to snap even there...she's just been hiding it.

Next episode with the flashbacks will hit even harder now, probably.

I really hope they overlay the Apollo 11 audio like in the game. You think we're getting it or nah?

Much better episode. I see all these videos about how the show is failing and people are turning on it but it is the number one show on Max and has been since the season started.

I have my issues with the show but people try to deny facts and numbers to make it look like a flop when it just isn't. It's the same with the game.

Good episode.

I still hate how the tone flip flops. Ellie being playful with Dina at this situation is so weird. The writting is so inferior to the game.

Loved the pacing. The hospital scene was almost 1-1 with the game version, good stuff.

I still think the Dina and Ellie moments are cringe as fuck, but the episode really picked up as soon as they ran into the Stalkers.

- Jesse coming in for the save was great.
- Enjoyed the encounter with the Scars.
- Ellie is better when angry and not goofing around with Dina.
- The scene with Nora was good.
- Great way to end the episode.

I know this is fiction, but this idea that women would be military leaders in the apocalypse. respectfully lol

Season 1
EP.1 -0.588
EP.2 -0.633
EP.3 -0.747
EP.4 -0.991
EP.5 -0.382
EP.6 -0.841
EP.7 -1.083
EP.8 -1.039
EP.9 -1.040

Season 2
EP.1 - 0.938
EP.2 - 0.643
EP.3 -0.768
EP.4 -0.774

The numbers don't include max.
People will say 643k is terrible, but that was the best-rated episode, and there was a huge sports weekend.

Numbers seem solid and not a huge drop off after Joel's death.

Idk who's idea it was to make Ellie a wise cracking quirk chungus this season, but this episode would have been great if they did less of that stuff. Like aside from the first scenes w/ Ellie and Dina where Ellie seems to forget that she is supposed to be unhappy, I think this is a good episode.

Another great episode. The spore stuff was incredible. I missed Ellie's power move of dragging Nora into the infected area herself, but the way things played out was still dope.

see all these videos about how the show is failing and people are turning on it but it is the number one show on Max and has been since the season started.

Yeah, there's some out there desperate to see gamers' disillusionment back in 2020 re-enacted with show viewers, but it's just not happening. You even had people jokingly saying they didn't want to watch the show anymore after ep2, but of course they're coming back for more.

Crazy to see the people who usually hate the show praising this episode. Thought it was clearly the worst one of the season and maybe the worst of the series.

The pacing is all over the place and the line delivery is completely rushed. The lighting on her face in the last shot felt so forced and over the top like they were trying to make it cinematic, but somehow made it look comical in the process.

They tried to cram so much into this episode for reasons... You can see clear signs of budget constraints in this season. The jarring cut to the flashback at the end was an interesting one. Based on the tone of the show, I feel like they could have flashbacked when she was playing the guitar and I think that would have worked a lot better.

In the game we don't see this flashback until after she gets back to the theater and Dina wasn't there for any of this. I don't think they have to stay beat for beat the same, but the changes they made here are just causing some cascading effects especially when they try to get back on track. This all starts with the decision to have Dina go with Ellie and then you need to have Jesse save them, but now you have to get Jesse and Dina out of there, so you force this scene with the scars and randomly have Dina catch an arrow. Then somehow immediately Ellie finds Nora...

The scene between Bella and Tati was awful. Like that was your best take? Maybe they were rushed for time, I don't know, but it didn't play well are nearly as impactful as the game.

Crazy that the hater-squad is actually praising this episode...

Also, while I think Bella is doing a great job as Ellie, they're not doing any favors by trying to portray her as dumb in this season. She's never been dumb.

Let's not follow part 1, again, and make a new story with new characters set in the same world. Like Fallout. Fallout was much more enjoyable because A: the actors got to do their own thing and B: I wasn't constantly thinking: man, tv Joel and Ellie suck compared to the 'real' Joel and Ellie.

Even though the pacing was all over the place, at least we got a glimpse of what Ellie should be since episode 2.
The less we get Sassy yappy pre teen Ellie the better.

I can see why they feel like they earned the rush to Nora because they mentioned where she would be earlier in the episode, but I still think it was rushed.

As a show hater: this one was far from the worst.

You telling me this is worse than episodes 3? You're crazy. To me episode 3 was clearly the worst. Ellie's town speech, Tommy being a bitch, Dina teaching Ellie about supplies, that damn therapist bitch talking with Tommy, Ellie/Dina camping, and the pacing being slow as molasses.

This one wasnt perfect, far from it. It really was rushed with terrible dialogue. That scene with Dina/Ellie finding dead scars, then Dina started talking about her past all of a sudden. Wtf? Who thought that dialogue sounded natural? And Ellie being like a Marvel character in terms of quips in tense situations will never not suck.

But:

* The stalkers scene was well made. It was tense, despite knowing they both would live.
* It revealed that Jessie and Tommy are in Seattle, which is good. I feared they were going to change this.
* Scars in the park looked awesome and the tension was also good.
* Hospital chase was almost 1-1 with the game. Good.
* Hospital basement looked amazing and it was a great introduction to the spores (why just now? Dunno)

It was a rushed episode, yes, but with decent parts most of the time imo

I really enjoyed this episode. Hoping it continues to get better and last week was just a blip.

The biggest issue I have at this point with season 2 is it feels like they are speed running through the plot. But it's to be expected I guess..

Episode 3 was a much better episode than this.

Ellie's town speech? The one that they quickly state was all BS in the very scene in which you're criticizing between Tommy and Gail?

I had hoped that they were setting it up that Gail or Eugene contacted Abby's group in Seattle.

I do agree that they can't seem to find a pace. They're rushing and they're dragging (literally whiplash if you know you know).

Episode 3 had some of Bella's best acting, established a better reason for Dina to go with her and for Tommy to follow. Tommy isn't a bitch, he's literally a father and a leader of a community.

This one wasnt perfect, far from it. It really was rushed with terrible dialogue. That scene with Dina/Ellie finding dead scars, then Dina started talking about her past all of a sudden. Wtf? * It revealed that Jessie and Tommy are in Seattle, which is good. I feared they were going to change this.

There was never any doubt that Tommy was going to be in Seatlle. Not sure if I talked to you about this or someone else, but there was never any doubt.

Some of the dialogue even seems ADR'd, especially Dina's.

* Scars in the park looked awesome and the tension was also good.

The dialogue of the scar with the beard saying, "he's free now" was so corny and poorly delivered. As is the overuse of the cult repeating each other. The show can't decide how gory it wants to be. They're not doing themselves any favors. The people who are squimish are still being turned off by the gore and those who don't care about the gore are turned off by the cut away from things happening.

* Hospital chase was almost 1-1 with the game. Good.

The hospital chase was heavier in the game. Especially because Ellie takes Nora captive. Nora didn't WILLINGLY go into the area with spores.

* Hospital basement looked amazing and it was a great introduction to the spores (why just now? Dunno)

You can't do the Nora scene without spores. They made a cascading mistake in season 1 to not introduce spores so they didn't have to cover the actors faces, even though it would only have to be one or two scenes.

I'm glad they brought it back and I knew they would since I saw an interview with Craig Maizin, but it was a questionable decision to avoid it in season 1. How they manage it moving forward will be interesting I guess.

It was a rushed episode, yes, but with decent parts most of the time imo

Episode 4 was probably the best episode of the season minus the last 10 minutes which... checks notes... was also rushed.

Overall, I'd probably give this season a C- or a D+ as an adaptation and a C or C+ as a show.

I really enjoyed this episode. Hoping it continues to get better and last week was just a blip.

The biggest issue I have at this point with season 2 is it feels like they are speed running through the plot. But it's to be expected I guess..

They went from 10 episodes to 9 in Season 1 and they've decided to do 7 episodes in Season 2.. for reasons... I feel like HBO is just trying to limit the cost of the show, but what's weird is that with 7 episodes, at most you're guaranteeing is two billing cycles. Just seems to be an odd decision to cut the episodes down and then rush through it. I felt they were rushing in season 1 but season 1 feels like molasses compared to season 2.

I thought they'd end the season with Nora, but now I'm thinking they'll end the season at the end of Day 3, which is going to make for a weird season 3.

All the videos people keep posting of the show failing are angry gamers and people that still can't deal with 2 lesbians together.

In the real world in terms of ratings the show isn't going down after Joel dying.

Wouldn't it make even more sense since it's "all hands on deck"? I really don't think in an apocalypse people would be "nah that's a woman...choose a man instead"
