HBO Original | The Last of Us | Part II OT | You Can't Stop This

The Ellie from the game was a completely deranged mass murderer who gave zero fucks about anything but revenge. She saw Dina's pregnancy as a massive inconvenience that might jeopardize her revenge quest and tells Dina that out loud. Also, as soon as Dina finds out she's pregnant she falls very sick and is basically out of commission for the rest of the game.

And where exactly in this timeline does Dina get pregnant by Jesse? In the game they've been broken up for a couple of weeks, so it makes sense, but are you telling me Dina was having sex with Jesse for the three months after Joel died?

Dina in the previous episode said they have a weird long relationship with high and low, but they never leave each other at all. If I remember correctly.

Some people still hook up after "break ups."

It's not like there's a whole lot of pickings in a post-apoc world.

We should all be thankful for The Last of Us. It changed the way sophisticated people look at gamers. Before, I was just a nerd. But thanks to Neal, moustached people in Brooklyn gastropubs want to have conversations with me.
Wow I don't remember this kind of infected type in the game. Is this show only?

I never finished the 2nd game. About 2/3 of the way through. I stopped playing since every character is unlikable.

Onto the show, Bella, Corky, whatever her name is, is just an awful choice and now that Pedro is out, has to carry the show, and it is not great nor believable. The way she easily took down the WLF guy more than twice her size was so laughable. I'm torn on continuing to watch. I enjoyed the 1st season, but I also loved the 1st game and had zero need for a sequel. The production quality is very good and I love seeing the work that goes into creating the infected.

I can't find the post, but someone in the last couple of pages pointed out that Ellie in the game was far more bitter after reaching Seattle and that was a great observation. There were almost no romantic scenes between Dina and Ellie in Seattle, and she was pretty pissed off at Dina for being pregnant and didn't hide it. Also, I'm playing this game right now for the plat and Ellie is convinced that Dina and Jesse will get together at some point to have their baby, and this is on Seattle Day 3, right before Jesse gets shot. There's no universe in which Ellie says "I'm gonna be a dad" to Dina at this point in the story.

Oh man, that makes it even more stupid. Wtf are the creators of the show afraid of? Having a bitter and relentless Ellie would actually be a good thing, perhaps Bella just can't act it.

Lol @ Bella's line.

I still haven't seen the last episode and I don't think I will. I'm dropping this. Love the game but the show just...
Wise choice. I really don't understand those who don't like the show but are still watching it past halfway point. Why are you torturing yourself? Do you think it will get better? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

"Having a bitter and relentless Ellie would actually be a good thing"

Why?

If the Game was not the same after Joels dead just imagine the rest of the show looking just Ellie's face...I mean Bella's face

She has the most uncanny valley face I have seen on tv.

Ellie doesn't seem very mad or hellbent on revenge.

I guess some people are fine with this, but it makes Dina extremely unlikable. Aren't they supposed to be an item by this point?

I think shit will start to pop off when Jessie gets 86'ed.

Even if she does, she'll look like a little kid having a temper tantrum instead of the much more mature, gritty Ellie in the game.

It's simply a terrible casting choice. You can't take this person seriously in this role.

This is not me being a bully. I think Bella's looks are distracting, but above anything else, she's not a good actress. She cannot carry this show. Even if she were a better actress, she's fucking tiny. She's just not a threat. And the same applies to Abby. Even more so. These two choices in particular are just baffling.

It becomes clear why casting someone like Gina Carrano as Abbie would have been a problem while having Ellie played as Bella. Honestly the amount of walkback and bastardisation of the entire story just proves to me a lot of this is really flippant and the people who worship Neil are likely to be people who like Rian Johnson too.

What did they walk back?

The most eye rolling part, is how the show-runners know what the internet has been saying, and they try so hard to fellate her in the post show commentary. Episode 3s post show commentary with him saying "It's Bella Ramsey, she reads better than anyone. I could watch her read blah blah blah forever…" (paraphrased)

It felt so creepy and forced when he said that.

I agree that their (Dever's/Ramsey's) physique (or lack thereof) make them nonthreatening. About Dever not having muscles, Neil said something along the lines of "we went a different direction." But being in shape and having muscles is obviously advantageous and fitting to surviving in the zombie apoc, so how do they make sense of them being unfit?

Sweet, sweet plot holes and plot armor.

It's her choices too. I saw something about how they didn't want the cast to play the game. In her case, she absolutely should have. I don't think she understands where the character needs to go. It needs to go there faster. There should be no happy moments until after she gets to abby. That line about being ing a dad is just wrong on so many levels.

The very definition of gaslighting.

I wonder why they removed the gay bookstore from the show. Honestly I thought we would get a full episode revelling in it.

Anyone care to venture a guess how the character rewrites came about? Was it all HBO and Druck just took it? Making Abby 5'1 and 110lbs drastically changes her character. Making Ellie a goofball who cracks jokes and makes faces while hunting a clicker in the same room. That scene just took all the edge off the zombies being a threat this season. Same for the horde. A few dozen mildly armed people can just take down a few thousand rushing zombies? Pretty handily too. I mean our hero's could just juke through the crowd at will.

Despite having that horde episode, they don't seem very keen on even doing zombie scenes this season. It really feels like the show just wishes it could be dialog only and not have to mess with cordyceps at all. It's almost like they thought if they threw us a bone with the horde, it would make up for the lack of zombie action later.

I'm playing the game right now and it's amazing how much of a difference a pissed off demeanor makes to Ellie's character. Like, the simple fact that she's so angry makes it seem viable that she can find a way to kill her way through so many wolves/ seraphites despite not being much more physically intimidating than Bella Ramsey. I never once questioned how she was doing all of this stuff while playing the game. She's like a female Joe Pesci running around Seattle.

I'm not even going to watch that but Part 2 haters are clearly review bombing so RT audience score doesn't matter much. The score was bad after the first episode of this season.

Also E3 of the first season and and E4 of this get review bombed too for obvious reasons.
you mean... INCELS?

I just realized the first 4 episodes this season were written by Mazin alone (no Druckmann). That explains a lot to be honest. I lowkey think Mazin is kind of a fraud who is riding the coattails of the source material. Some of the things he's said on the podcasts and in interviews made me suspicious.

On the plus side, Druckmann has writing credits on the last two episodes of this season. I don't think it's a coincidence that the best episodes of season 1 had him at the helm (both writing and directing).

The only episodes that are being review bombed are the ones with lesbian kisses. Pretty telling. The 2nd episode of the show was actually one of the best reviewed even from the public.

The Bella Ramsey casting in this poisoned the adaptation from day one. The response of people wanting to sexualise a juvenile character is not the case either. She is just a terrible actress and post transition Elliot Page would have been a legitimate better choice

I wouldn't call her terrible, but after all the "Actors should be chosen by talent not by the looks!!!!!!!!" from the defence force i expected much more. In the end we got a mediocre performance from a Temu Ellie.

How about just about any woman who doesn't look like a 12 year old? Lots of options lol

Internet: "I hate all the changes they're making, this isn't true to the game"
Internet: "I hate that Ellie didn't put the guitar back in the case, this version of Ellie sucks"
Game: "Ellie doesn't put the guitar back in the case"
