I'm scared to read the thread as I don't want to be spoiled, but could some gaffers give me their spoilers-free impressions of the first season ? I watched promos and it seemed average at best. But Famke Janssen is in it, which tempts me.

Also, is there nudity ?

1st season was non-sense. I wasn't even aware this got greenlit for a 2nd season

I'll probably check out a few episodes just to see if it got even worse (& because I'm short on new series to watch at the moment). I expected something a little more coherent and entertaining out of Eli Roth though.

It's schlocky fun. I enjoyed it because there were some things I didn't really figure out right away (so motivation to keep watching). It's kind of trash drama with supernatural elements, not the greatest show ever made or anything, so if it hits those guilty pleasure sweet spots for you is really going to be subjective to your own tastes. I'd say watch the first 2 or 3 episodes, and if they don't appeal to you, it's not really going to change much during the rest of the season so don't worry about dropping it.

There is a little bit of nudity in a couple of episodes, and some adult situations, as I recall.

e: Oh yeah, season 2! Already got the wife to agree to watch the new episode tonight.

Was wondering what happened to this series. Wasn't the biggest fan of s1 but I like the genre. Guess I've got something to watch this weekend now.

Lord, I forgot this shit was coming back today. :/

It's horrible. The first few episodes are fun in a "Holy shit, I can't believe this actually exists" sort of way, but the fun-sheen wears off very quickly and all that's left is a mess of horrible acting, horrible writing, horrible accents, horrible dialog, horrible effects, horrible camerawork, horrible...you get the picture.

There is some nudity (mostly boobs/dude butt), but not as much as there should be for a show like this.

I see. Thanks. I'll pass then.

So, here is the story of how this tv show broke my heart:

I started watching it with low expectations, by the time I'm on ep.3 I'm seriously intrigued, I'm quite liking the mood and mysteries. I keep watching it, the plot thickens, things get interesting, shit hits the fan, dead bodies pile up. It's cool. Then I'm moving towards the end of the season, super hyped to see what happens, quite happy with the whole
vargulf thing and how it played out, then... the god damn ending happened. WHAT. I mean, WHAT THE FUCK. Are you fucking kidding me?!?!? This was just... the shittiest ending of a season I've ever seen. I was so disappointed. I spent like 5min staring at the tv after the end, just trying to realise how bad I've been trolled and how I fell for it.

This series damaged me.

Only watched Episode 1 of S2 so far but it looks like an improvement over S1.

Not THAT much of an improvement but somewhat better.

Also:
the leeches scene. So good.

Watched the first episode and was reminded why I hated the first season. I don't know if it's by design or a result of the budget but the supernatural element, the whole reason I watch, is subtle to the point of almost non-existence. It reminds me of an episode of the Grey's anatomy spinoff I watched with a lady friend the other day. Now I had no problem watching Grey's with her. The drama was mostly around medical stuff and hospital drama, but the spinoff, "Private Practice", was all just bullshit whining and crying and basically could have taken place in a busy mechanic's garage for all they actually referenced the patients or the fact that they were doctors. That about sums up Hemlock Grove for me. I don't think I can tolerate such a high shit to interesting ratio as I endured with the first season, but then again there's nothing else on so I just may.

The first season was one of the most nonsensical, weird-to-be-weird, impossible to follow shows I ever saw. I still watched 90% of it.

The Netflix recap made the first season seem pretty cool. I want to give the second season a shot. But this show is engineered to almost be a random hodge-podge or weird supernatural dont-try-to-understand bits and pieces, so I don't have high hopes.

wasn't
evil werewolf girl alive at the end of season 1? I know if the bodies are not properly disposed of, some myths state that werewolves come back as vampires. Either way I guess she's not in season 2

Yeah, we heard her screaming underground in her coffin at the very end.
She's not in season 2 at all?

Ugh. Gotta watch this now. I'm hoping for it to be cheesy and leave out the terrible parts season 1 had.

I'm on episode two. It's still way too fucking serious, but at least it is a lot more coherent and way less "we want to be Twin Peaks".

I'm fine with the serious bits, oddly enough. I suppose the main problem I had was the last episode made no fucking sense and the writing can be awful at times.

S2 ep1 spoilers:

Is it me, or did Famke Janssen completely drop that horrible accent?

What I got out of that was that:

she had to learn how to talk again and learned from someone with an American accent. Like how I child picks up on accents. I think they always meant to have this happen, so we had to suffer through am awful English accent for one season.

My wife and I watched all of season 2 over the weekend.

Uhhh, thoughts on the whole thing:
Why the fuck did I do that to myself.

The Good:
+ Peter's werewolf rave party - The hand coming out of the wolf's mouth that was coming out of Peter's face was pretty sweet.
+ Roman's daydreaming of tearing Miranda's throat out - I would have appreciated more scenes like that. That was a ton of blood.
+ Roman ripping Peter out of the vargulf - So that's how that works.
+ The Testicle Taker - Because why shouldn't there be a ball-stealing redneck in the mix.
+ Nadia solving everyones problems with brain melting - Seriously, I can't believe they added a super baby. I half expected the little cutie to start flying, Superman-style, when she fell off the building.
+ Shelly going apeshit on the OG vargulf - It doesn't pay to be vargulf in this show; someone is going to rip your face in half at some point.

The Bad:
- The rogue(?) Order folks - What a bunch of chumps.
- Peter walking into the warehouse and getting immediately captured - What the hell. I guess you could blame it on his brash "dark side" tendencies this season, but I prefer to blame it on writing incompetence. They had to find that baby somehow.
- Miranda - I'm here, I'm lactating, get used to it?
- Olivia and Norman - What a cluster fuck that turned out to be. And oh God the karaoke.
- The Russian Doctor - How many names did she have? We're talking three unique sets of four names each. And what was her motivation for wanting to kill off Roman? Did I fall asleep and miss 3 episodes somewhere? Where the hell am I?
- New Shelly just looks like Frankenstein's monster now. Oh, and her fingers are wood, or something.

The Ugly:
- The Doctor - Well, that came out of nowhere. He was always a little, uh, animated, but I didn't expect that. His plan with Miranda and the baby is so fucking convoluted that I can't begin to make sense of it. And then he's a gargoyle or a dragon or something.
- Establishing shots of the CG Godfrey Tower - How many of these did they need? I guess they had to fill in all that free time they had not explaining what the fuck was going on.

I appreciate a good mystery and having to put some pieces together myself. But watching this show is like putting together a five hundred piece jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing and the other half covered in blood while someone is forcibly trying to remove one of your testicles.

Bring on season 3! :[

Great impressions Exfixate, I share most of them!

I love the pacing of this show so much. It starts out so slow, but by the time the last episodes come around, it feels like there isn't enough time to see all the crazy shit going down.

I can understand how people can lose patience, or strain an eyeball from too much eye rolling, but at least there is a payoff in the last 2 episodes.

Didn't see Norman's death coming. On the other hand, this is Hemlock Grove, so they will probably just Godfrey him a new heart or body.

Really loving season 2 so far. 4 episodes in. I liked season 1 a lot. Easily my number one guilty pleasure show haha. So many dumb moments lol but I have to keep watching. Peter and Roman are awesome.

Just watched all of Season Two. Holy shit, what the fuck was that ending? I was laughing so hard. That was so damn bad. I'm not even going to attempt to make sense of it.

In all honesty, it was a good cliffhanger, but there was just too much that just was not explained or came out of nowhere.

Season 2 was pretty good. Right up to the ending. Which was one of the worst things I have seen from a show like this. Holy shit, it was like a parody. I was dying of laughter.

lol, the CGI was definitely terrible in that last scene. It almost looked like they were rushed and didn't have time to finish the effects or something. It looks like there was no textures and everything was flat looking.

Still campy fun though.

I can't believe I watched it all... what was I thinking... Season 1, was ok, but Season 2?

Very believable characters
"holy shit, I'm lactating out of nowhere, better get out of here, but first, what's in behind that super secret closed door, oh look a baby, well, since I'm already lactating, why the hell not"

I mean, what in the actual fuck?

Just finished S2. Overall it was a much enjoyable experience than S1.

But that ending, holy shit, what the fuck? You don't pull out something like that in the last fucking minute.

Interesting show...kinda reminds me of Twin Peaks in a way.

I like a lot of what they did in both seasons but...wtf is up with the season finales?! They were both terrible and out of left field.

Honestly, I only watched this series because of how good House of Cards and OISNB were. Really great premise but it falls flat at the end.

Not excited for, but will watch season 3.

So I couldn't stand the first two episodes of season one. Should I even try two?
If you couldn't stand season 1, you aren't going to be any happier with season 2.

I just finished watching season 2 today. That ending. Geeeez.
They spared all expense on those awesome special effects. A cardboard standee would have been more scary and convincing. XD

Bring on season 3. I can hardly wait to see where they're going with this.

Yeah, except Hemlock Grove is absolute dogshit.

This show is horrifically bad.

This.

At first I honestly thought that the pathetically trite dialogue was delivered in such a stilted, awful way with the intention of creating a surreal atmosphere. But then I realized this show is made for (and written by) brain-damaged 12 year-olds.
