This show was so purposefully bad that is was good. I fully disliked it at first, but it grew on me like a friend you have no reason to like but still strangely hang out with.

The last episode was really trippy, not what I expected. Overall I liked the series, there was some really good moments.

I think the editing can use some work, there are times when events happen and they are not revealed to the viewer. You only get to see the after effect. That style works better in books, but it seems odd in a TV series.

Hopefully there will be a season 2.

So.... what? I uh.. Don't understand quite what I just saw. I can't believe I watched this all day. It seemed like a great premise,
hunt the killer
. Then the last episode I just don't know what happened anymore. Now that I've read some things and looked up the damn definition of the word upir, I can make sense of some other things. Is Roman supposed to be like
Dracula
or something? I don't know. What significance did the company
Lod
end up having? Are the priests like
super natural hunters
? If so why were the
shares sold to them
if they were clearly
enemies to the vampires also
? What the fuck is the
thing inside the the container supposed to be
? Should I have read the book to make sense of any of this?

That felt so unsatisfying.

This show blue balled me.

Chausser worked for the Order of the Dragon. It seems the Order of the Dragon was set up to kill the upirs natural enemies, the werewolves. Remember, Chausser never went after the Godfreys, only Peter. Roman is the Dragon, but it was his mother that was running everything in the background.

Haha wtf, watching episode 10,
the way Sworn's daughters are killed... really? REALLY?

You know you think you want it all, so come and get it~~~~

AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Oh wow, all these days pass and no one has anything else to say? Speaks volumes.

Really, looking back -- this show is a joke. I really hope they don't do another season. It would be mildly entertaining I suppose, but frankly it really fell short as it progressed.

I kind of regret watching it all. Let's hope the next new Netflix series is as good as Lilyhammer or House of Cards.

Yeah this show is shit. The best vampire show on TV is left unbothered.

Well, I'm up to Episode 4. I've been getting through it slow but I kind of wish that I marathon it. I might do that this coming weekend.

I mean it's not offensively bad but nothing super amazing is happening either. I guess it's just middling.

Famke makes it worth it though and is probably the only reason I'm still watching, I won't lie.

I just finished watching the entire thing. It was admittedly all over the place in certain parts but there were elements that were quite enjoyable. Here's hoping it works out better in the 2nd season.

Saw the whole show and I kept on hoping it would make sense in the end or atleast have some character progression, but I was wrong. I'm not hoping for another season anymore.

Happy it got renewed for a 2nd season.

I enjoyed the show and mystery and hope for more answers next season and wonder where they will take the show.

Is the show scary? Or just jump scares ?
I could go for some thing tense

there's a couple of jump scares, but not really "scary" as it is "mysterious" or creepy. i don't really get scared, though, so maybe i'm not the best one to answer.

anyway, i recently finished it.

my thoughts are:

Good chemistry between the two main actors.

Bad writing. Oh my god there is such bad writing. Somehow they make it work for about 78% of the show for me, so i stuck with it.

the ends of episodes have practically no pay off usually in the next episode.

the last episode was very strange. i dont know what the fuck was going on, its like they changed styles completely and went a different direction with all of the characters to make the show something it wasn't really trying to build itself up to be. it was just a lot of WTFs and cliffhangery stuff without any explanations about anything.

i mostly just liked the figuring out the mystery. there was a bit of misdirection throughout, so i appreciated them not automatically pointing the finger in the first episode, but it ended up being "more" obvious later, but since they weren't cleanly pointing out who the werewolf was, it kept me guessing.

the rape scene was very odd. i wasn't thinking in my head when i was watching the show that he just made her forget it, but i would have thought they would have at least made it mean something for there to have been one. i'm not really sure what the point of depicting it was other than trying to really drive the point home that Roman was going crazy, but there was a lot of other "more" tasteful ways to do it...

Would you recommend it?

Sign me up for another season. Season 1 was kind of bad, but man, I couldn't stop watching it. That said if this had been one episode a week kind of thing, I'd have dropped it extremely fast.

Would you recommend it?

sure. if you have an interest in supernatural-type subject matter it can be interesting. they have just a tinge of sci-fi in it.

i tend to watch everything, though, and i enjoy campy/bad movies as much as good movies.

this is basically campy/bad with very little "good" in it. so if that's not your taste it might not be for you.

As an enormous fan of Teen Wolf, is this worth checking out?

Cause the writing on that show might not be the best, but it is addictive as fuck, fun as hell, all the actors have great chemistry, and it's pretty funny.

i havent seen teen wolf, but i'm guessing you'll enjoy this since its about high schoolers.

Just finished the season, too. I really liked it even though I agree with most that the pacing is off and the show is a times confusing, but I think all the characters were cast greatly. Roman and Peter have a great chemistry.

So I'm on episode 8 and I have a question/hypothesis on who the vulgrath is. A simple yes or no is all I need. Is the vulgrath
the little girl with the long hair Christina? I'm starting to think it's her because after every kill her hair becomes whiter and that obviously can't be a coincidence. And second question (simple yes or no) Roman and his mother by extension are vampires or some variant correct? I ask because of his ability to push people with words, and Roman's blood lust.

Yes and partially yes.

Yes and partially yes.

I assume you say partial due to
the fact they can walk around in the day time (if the common vampire tropes apply). One thing I don't understand though is, do they ever feed? I see them eat normal meals all the time so I'm leaning towards the cliche tropes not applying? I guess my last question is, what's with the eye drops? Also thanks for asking the first question, I guess I'll finish up the season tomorrow to see how she's a werewolf.

The tear drops are to stop the hunger for blood, for Olivia at least. Just watch the last episode and everything will become clear about the partial yes part :)

Are you guys sure the drops are for
her thirst and cravings for blood? I thought it was just a narcotic that she was addicted to. Maybe I missed something....

Regarding the person who uses the drops:
I think they are a slavic variant of vampires, ones who can withstand sunlight but just love raw red meat or something rather than outright blood.

I'm quite sure it's for the reason I mentioned. I believe it becomes clear in later episodes although I'm not entirely sure.

I finished this earlier tonight. I didn't do much research beforehand or know much about it, just saw that Netflix was doing a genre show and said fuck it. Finished it in 3 days.

Honestly, I feel like the best character was by and large Dr. Pryce. Not only was it a pretty good performance by the actor, but my view of the character actually evolved throughout the program. At first I thought he was going to be "the man behind the curtain", in the end, he actually came off as somewhat sympathetic. (Still, that super strength thing was silly, and ultimately pointless). Would like more of him in season 2. Also thought that Peters mom, the Sheriff (Nice to see "Chief" in something again, shame that Dualla is so bad), and Norman (Although, utterly boring) were okay.

Jean Grey was fucking hilarious...not in the intended way. That accent my god.

Can't really say much that hasn't already been said. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. I would watch a second season. But they really need to tighten up...everything. Maybe less episodes would help. The enthusiasm of watching a new show kept me through the first couple of episodes, the middle *really* dragged, liked the last 2 episodes for the reveals.

Super bump, but casting calls have already gone out for the second season. Are they going ahead without the book?

For Hemlock Grove season 2, the regular role of Shelley is being recast. She's tall, in her late teens, and grotesque (actress will wear facial prosthetics), and thin from being on the run for a while. Also, the recurring role of Miranda is being cast. She's a graphic novelist in her early 20s who shows up at Roman's front door after her car is hit by someone. She has an emotional and sexual relationship with both Roman and Peter.

I had to find this thread to make sure I wasn't the only one to ask 'what the hell did I just watch?' It was entertaining enough but those last couple episodes were all over the place. I literally laughed out loud when
Shelly came running in to save the day.

Some more Season 2 casting news. This answers whether Olivia will appear in Season 2 or not, so highlight at your own discretion.

For Hemlock Grove episode 2.01, the role of Lisanne is being cast.
She’s Olivia’s speech therapist and is in her late 20s. During a speech therapy session, Olivia discovers that she no longer heals quickly when she cuts her finger on a broken wine glass. Later, at night at a club, Olivia approaches a sexy woman and discovers that she’s Lisanne, and Olivia orders a bottle of expensive champagne for them to share.

Thought the first episode was campy fun. But after making my way through the series, it became clear that the campy charm I thought was there turned out to be just an illusion; outside of a few hilariously awful moments here and there, Hemlock Grove is otherwise devoid of any redeeming qualities.

Godawful acting and writing aside, it's not scary in the slightest (and I consider myself to be pretty sensitive to that sort of thing), it's never intentionally funny, nothing that happens* ever makes any sense (including the dialog and character interactions), no one in the cast has has any chemistry with anyone else in the cast, the accents are horrendous (Bill Skarsgård's accent is all over the place and Famke Janssesn's British (?) accent is one of the worst I've ever heard), and there's very little action and sex, which, in the absence of compelling storytelling and characterization, might have at least served to provide a base level of entertainment that was otherwise absent. But alas.

*Not that anything really ever does happen; this show is the very definition of plodding.

There really is no reason to watch this show.

Really, looking back -- this show is a joke. I really hope they don't do another season.

Yeah, I'd rather Netflix not waste any more money on this. I can see them doing a truncated third season to wrap everything up, though, after season two bombs (I'm assuming that it will), since that seems to be Netflix's model.

I kind of regret watching it all.

Me too. I wish I could get those 13 hours back.

I'm not even sure what I watched after the first season. I wouldn't describe it as good even if I was technically intrigued though I did start to actually enjoy it towards the end. I'll watch the second season though if for no other reason than to have it make more sense.

Finally.

I feel like I've been waiting forever to get the next season.

Now just to rerewatch season 1 before this comes on.

There a thread for season 2?

Season 1 was fun trash. Can't wait to start the second season this weekend.
Since there aren't a lot of posts or interest in the series, it's fine if people want to just stick to this thread. I don't see an S2 thread. I'll update the title, and if someone gets motivated and wants to make a new thread, just let me know via PM.
