K help me out here. Ep 12 spoilers:

The one girl is the werewolf, who chose to become one because of her obsession with Peter. But the timeline seems off. She had to have been a werewolf beforehand because the first person died so soon after his arrival. Did they screw up, or did I miss something?

I don't even know why I'm asking. Not making cohesive sense seems to be on purpose at this point.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Unless I missed it,
the first death is basically a giant plothole.

And I don't have to read the novel to see if the material is inherently a mess, since the writer wrote for the show. So yeah, the material just sucks.

I love how the 12th episode ends with
Peter apparently getting brutally killed
, and when the episode ends, it shows a pic of the next episode
with Peter perfectly fine
. It's like when a TV series DVD has a cover or a menu that spoils the show as you watch it.

I know listing a thing that bothers me would be a drop in the ocean right now, but Dr/Uncle Godfrey's wife's isn't a human being but an automatic bitch dispenser. She shows up in like 5 episodes, and every time she opens her mouth, it's to bitch.

Oh wait, she just said
bye
. Great characterization, I take it all back.

Oh god it's making no sense. So ep 13 now, the sherrif is
blaming Shelly for the murders? He really seems to believe it in the funeral scene. How did he had a perfect vantage point to shoot Shelly, and somehow miss the werewolf battle seconds earlier? Wait, how did Shelly know where to go in the first place? This show just doesn't care.

I've watched up to ep. 7 and this show is pretty terrible. Shitty actors, shitty writing, shitty pacing. And then in ep. 7,
Roman, the protagonist, rapes someone and I'm sure there will be zero consequences since he wiped her memory.

Hopefully they prove me wrong, but if not then fuck this show.

The show doesn't really declare much timewise. Everything is generally in order of occurrence, except when it's not, which can definitely be confusing. The thing is.. I don't think that she necessarily became of wolf because of Peter but that she was obsessed with Peter because he was a wolf. Remember she knew the index-middle finger bit during her first conversation with him. Also keep in mind that there are other Were's that have lived in that town, so it doesn't have to be Peter's tracks that she drinks from.

As for Shelly.. presumably she knew where they were hiding as did the rest of the family. How the Sheriff found them? Probably got a report from Store Clerk about Peter, who he was with, the direction they went and figured it out.

It's far from tight writing but I suppose how much it bothers people relates directly to how much they pay attention to detail? I'm not sure. But I just turned my brain off and went for a ride and enjoyed it.

I'm sorry, but when was it ever stated
there were other shapeshifters in the town? And if so, then the initial killer is still out there? But again the writing is terrible because apparently the rumor that Peter is a werewolf spreads like fire and everyone just believes it, but later on the existence of werewolves is said to be ludicrous by some characters. It's just very weak writing. Nothing make sense. The timeline is either fucked or poorly explained.

And there are shows you can turn your brain off, enjoy, and yet the shows can still have good writing. Given the pedigree Netflix seems to be aiming for, this is a failure on most accounts.

Regarding the timeline of things.

I think that while they showed it the other way the girl wasn't killed until after, Peter and his mom moved in, because the girl talks to the teacher after class and when they find her body they mention that its the first day of school. That would also gives Peter and Christina a few fays to where they meet and talk which is where Peter gave her that nickname which she didn't like being called on the first day of school.

Right.

Blame poor cutting/editing?

The premise of this show didn’t seem like it would be of that much interest to me, but after the spectacular House of Cards I decided to give Netflix the benefit of the doubt. I had to force myself through the first two episodes, and just couldn’t watch any more. I’m honestly shocked at how terrible this show is – it’s really bad.

I didn't notice Eli Roth is responsible, but in hindsight it seems somewhat clear. Much like his movies, it teeters on the precipice between entertaining and bad. But don't keep your fingers crossed about that there teetering.

I don't think it was ever explicitly stated other than the house that Peter and his mother moved into previously belonged to another Romani in their family. Hence the trap door and the mailbox already saying Rumancek. It's further supported by Olivia going to Peter's mother for her drug (whatever it is) because only the Romani know how to make it. It also seems that, for the most part, only the male Romani are Were's (further making Christina rare). And no.. there isn't another "original" killer. It was Christina the whole time, but as Wooley explained better than I did initially, the order the events occur in the show is not always the actual timeline of events.

I'm not saying it's impossible to have great writing and still be a "turn off" and enjoy type of show. Just that this show really is only entertaining when you do turn off your brain a bit and try not to pick at every aspect of it. This is that Twin Peaks-esque aspect of the show. A Soap Opera type of over-the-top with an emphasis on bad lines and ridiculous character portrayal. Again, it's not close to the execution of Twin Peaks itself.. but it's serviceable if you enjoy that type of program.

No, but really, is there any consequence for
Roman raping that girl
in episode 7? I just want to know if I should even bother continuing to watch the show.

He told her to forget about it.
Episode 8 is where it starts getting good. You should finish it.

Peter meeting Christina happened before the start of school. The killing happened while school was going on. You learn that the house belonged to family. I figured out in the second ep that the relative that left them the trailer was making the eye drops. I didn't know what for until later though.

I still don't know what they actually do though. That part was really unclear.

Kind of? Not legal consequences, if that's what you want.

I meant like does he
at least have a troubled conscious/feel bad about it? Is it even addressed at all? Not legally speaking, I just can't really be cool with a protagonist that rapes someone and there are zero repercussions.

I'd say yes, but it depends on your interpretation.

I'm mad at myself for watching this entire show. I contributed to this possibly getting a 2nd season. What have I done.

This show is terrible, its like a train wreck that I couldn't look away from.

So.... what? I uh.. Don't understand quite what I just saw. I can't believe I watched this all day. It seemed like a great premise,
hunt the killer
. Then the last episode I just don't know what happened anymore. Now that I've read some things and looked up the damn definition of the word upir, I can make sense of some other things. Is Roman supposed to be like
Dracula
or something? I don't know. What significance did the company
Lod
end up having? Are the priests like
super natural hunters
? If so why were the
shares sold to them
if they were clearly
enemies to the vampires also
? What the fuck is the
thing inside the the container supposed to be
? Should I have read the book to make sense of any of this?

That felt so unsatisfying.

This show blue balled me.

I watched the first episode and really didn't think much of it. Eli Roth really doesn't do anything for me. Came across as a poor man's David Linch. Netflix of through money at someone else. Now House of Cards on the other hand... Excellence.

Racist show confirmed!

I have no clue. I was also very confused (entire show spoilers)
about the priest; he seems intent on destroying the Godfreys so I'd imagine this is a play at trying to sabotage the institute.

I also didn't understand why Roman biting off Olivia's tongue would kill her - she survived a bullet to the heart.

And am I understanding correctly that Roman raped Leifa? What the hell is the business with the bloody angel wings?

I may pick up the book to see if it makes any more sense, but I'm not hopeful. What a mess of a show.

I think I'm about 6 or 7 episodes in. Really liking it so far, but this is definitely the sort of show I'd avoid if it aired on tv. At least until it was finished. Too many threads I'd be worried wouldn't get resolved because the show was cancelled.

uggghhh... I don't think there's anything I hate more in all of television than the boring mind trip episodes. Shitty visual effects to simulate dream world? Check. Blown out scenes to once again remind you you are in the dream world? Check. Annoying cryptic dialogue? Check. Very little discovery, progression or anything of interest until the last moment? Check (I assume this is a "check". The words "you haven't even scratched the surface yet" were uttered in reference to the progression and I lost patience and had to come up for air). Quick cuts? Check. Boring and uninteresting hallucinations? Check. Fuck
he better wake up in this one episode because if they try to spread this shit out then I may not have the patience for it.

The way The 4400 did it was the only time I've ever not wanted to blow my brains out while watching.

edit:

:/
he didn't wake up. I guess we can un-check the only thing mind trip episodes have going for them that I took for granted above.

Yea im on ep 9 and its falling apart at the seams. Not sure what trickery they tried with the main plot but it just comes across as having really bad narrative. This show has a time line made out of spaghetti.

It's moving at a snail's pace now. I really enjoyed it at the beginning, but the last few episodes have been a chore. The supernatural elements are so subtle and restrained they may as well be nonexistent. Maybe they are saving both the effects budget and the rest of the story for the end or something. I dunno feels like "filler". I don't give a shit about how this idiot
is repeating the same mistakes as his brother regardless of the warning or watching all this boring shit with Peter and his g/f playing house
. Seriously this needs to pick up steam like now.

On the final episode. For some reason thought this was going to be self-contained single season. I was right about the fx budget too. Seriously I think this series could have been cut in half. Shit just dragged and it seemed obvious they were doing things the way they were to skimp on the visual effects. The only thing that separates this entire series from a single episode of Supernatural is the unnecessary slow burn "developing" characters. Next season they really need to make the supernatural elements more apparent or make the non supernatural stuff actually interesting and not boring and plodding. Answer the questions posed in the first season about Ouroboros and Shelly. Maybe have a few episodes about creepy shit going on at the tower. Reveal more about mother Godfrey and her side of the family. I dunno... make the show like... interesting. Smoking cigarettes and talking a lot about nothing: The Show just isn't good tv.

edit:
Watching last episode...

wtf :/
5 minutes in holy fucking deus ex machina batman. Okay that was the tipper. Up until then I could say it was just a meh series. That just fucking made it straight bad. Who wrote that shit?

Okay and I'm done. Last episode delivered exactly what I've been saying the show should have had more of throughout. Unfortunately cramming stuff that should have been incorporated evenly throughout the entire season into your finale doesn't fix the issues with the rest of the episodes. All in all I'd say the show was plodding and uninteresting. Well... it was interesting but nothing ever paid off. It was anticlimatic and the whole way the literal big bad wolf
was dispatched made all of the preparation and work before hand pointless. Not to mention the most obvious issue being why would they think fighting a wolf bare-handed would be more effective than getting Roman to get a gun.

I guess this was a ground-work season. Maybe next season will actually pay more attention to the supernatural elements and have a better pace.

I keep seeing upir quoted. I could have sworn they were saying dhampyr which anyone who's watched Vampire Hunter D knows is a half breed vampire. Seems clear to me that's a better description of Roman as his dad was human as far as we know.

Show is far from perfect but I really enjoyed it. Hope we get a second season. Hopefully with some writers that aren't afraid to not stretch things out and better scene direction and cinematography.

Haven't read the thread because I don't want any spoilers.

I've only watched the first episode and thought it was interesting. I really liked House of Cards, so I'm giving these people a chance.

Should I read the book first, or just watch the show? the book is about 350 pages, so it's not too long.

The novel author wrote every episode of the show, so reading the book is pretty much a waste of time.

I finished all of first season a week ago. It's fucking horrible. Don't waste your time.

That said, I ll end up watching season 2 probably since I am an idiot.

Not everything can be house of cards I guess.

The subtitles said upir.

So I just finished. Not amazed, but not entirely hating it either. I'll stick around for another season of bad quotes and acting. However, there's this:
Pretty much every female that's not a gypsy is dead now? What the heck? Shelley might still be alive, but still...

It's not fucking horrible but it is disappointing in my opinoon. I will watch a season 2 too but I bet it's over a year away at least.

Roman's "face acting" toward the end of the season but particularly in the last 2 episodes is terrible. The acting overall is pretty bad. Freya Tingley (Christina) in particular is downright YouTube drama club awful. That along with Famke's accent and Captain Jack Sparrow impressoin that lasts the whole fucking season was enough to drive me bananas.

Peter, who I thought was going to turn out to be more evil than Roman, just slowly becomes an adorable ewok until he dies.
I don't understand the gypsy/drifter/leather vest werewolf connection.

The ONE thing that had a glimmer of being interesting, Shelley, doesn't even really take off either. Drives me crazy that they'd whiff that part so bad. 13 episodes and we don't even know what Shelley's deal is.

Wow watched the whole thing in a day.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but Assume my brain has been damaged beyond repair from watching the season finale of the following...and watching the show in general.

Next season they need to work on their editing, because fuck if it wasnt all over the place.

Just finished it. The last 2 episodes made it worth while. They have something interesting here but this season was kinda hit or miss. The two protagonists are interesting though, and since it ended on a high note I want a season 2 to see of they can perfect it.
