wonder how many players unranked took from ranked/quick match

Don't know. I'm sure some.

We did a bunch of matches of it today and went undefeated. Felt good man. We even won the game above where me and Milly got mixed up on who was healing and both went DPS as last pick lol.

I'm also 5-0 in placements on one account. Huzzah!

yeah i played one game of it and everyone was pretty nice
i hope they change the pick/ban being top mmr in group

it was cool to see people react to bans and picks too even when there's nothing on the line, like I'm prob the target demographic for this mode, I wanna try and win but I don't really want to try too hard
also man I suck at this game right now

Yeah, he's a team oriented hero for certain.

He's the most feast or famine hero in QM now. If people use your stuff and react to it, he's awesome. If they don't, you are just a support who does less damage and prevents far less damage than a support heals.

The flaming in game will be real before too long, I'd bet. He's gonna be on that Nova tier for eliciting salt from teammates.

Legit happened just now, in my first HL game

Last pick has bans. Bans morales and says "first pick gets Li Ming or KT" w/o consulting first pick who doesn't have KT or Li Ming. Then flames and some1 dodges.

I queued again and landed with the same guy who still had bans and banned morales this time it at least worked out.
For some reason eyebrows were raised when I picked Chromie into Hammer. Then our opponents continued to not pick a healer and we wrecked them.

I could get used to this, not the 1 Win, having chromie there
RIPqCyk.png
Chromie is quickly becoming my new favourite hero. Playing her is just so much fun.

Has anyone seen Medivh in a game yet? Still haven't and I'm about through my placements.

I saw him twice in AI games last night while I was quickly completing some dailies. Both players said he was kind of cool to play but mostly tame in random competitive PvP modes, and kind of a handicap. I’ve not seen a Medivh in ranked games yet. It doesn’t sound like he will be a common pick either, but I’m guessing with a co-ordinated team you could pull off some tricky stuff with him.

I played around with him for a bit in training mode, wasn’t too impressed honestly, but I could see him being fun to goof around with in AI and QM matches.

Itll prob take a good while for ppl to get used to playing w/ medivh

Lots of ppl most likely checking the other side of the portal before they click to see if it's bullshit or not lol

If one were to actually take Medivh in HL/TL, how would you build a comp around him? I know we've talked at length about how he's essentially a support, despite being a specialist, but how does that work out in practice? Do you still have to draft an actual support on top of him, and if so, doesn't that really hamper your team's damage? In that case, is it good to pair him up with Tyrande or Tassadar to not lose too much damage?

Hi guys, I'm broken_sword and I've been reading this thread for a while.
I'm not a great player, I think my QM MMR(before they introduced this most recent patch)was something like 1600-1800. This is my first MOBA and I've played around 1000 matches, so I kind of feel like I'm stuck in a MMR purgatory, considering how bad I was at first. Anyway, while I have been playing more Overwatch lately, I'd love to perhaps get in some HOTS matches with you gafbros, since I typically play solo QM.

Mostly, I just wanted to pop in and say that yaaaaaaay, I can finally stop lurking in this thread and actually participate!

i was only able to play one HL game with Medivh and it wasn't pretty. id say he can solo support depending on your team's willingness to go for an "all-in" aggressive comp. the games where i feel i did really well with him were ones where we had a comp like this:

Sonya, Greymane, Kerrigan, Li Ming, Medivh

he does surprisingly well with Kerrigan since he seems to solve two of her biggest issues: surviving burst and having an escape.

Tyrande pairs much better with him than a Tassadar since Tass' shields don't synergize well with Medivh's. Tass also doesn't need his portal since he has high survivability where Tyrande doesn't.

More of a tassadar substitute where his unique functions are needed (mainly portal)

Also remember that tass/medivh are damage enablers even though they dont do much dmg themselves, i dont think it's too necesary to "make up" for them as it is to put heroes around them that work well with them. So like when you consider a tyrande/medivh combo, it's not bad per se and portal is good for tyrande if you are omitting sprint at 13, there is some synergy with portal/starfall, etc. but probably the more immediate thing to consider is that tyrande specializes in follow up cc and amping team dmg on a sibgle target (so you want like an etc or rexxar for ex.) so you want to think about who you are porting over to enable tyrande.

In terms of supports, i think pairing medivh with a support that can take cleanse is excellent. Like w/ tass you want pretty good melee/dive representation on your team. Kerri/medivh/tyrande feels like it could be pretty good. To me if you wanted to pick up something to help out medivh itd probably be less about dmg and more about early waveclear.

Yeah that could work, seven-sided and portal have an interesting interaction, only dmg id take is ult and iron fists probably though

Well, you'll have that when you stack your team with high MMR players. No sympathy. They were just beating on noobs. And it's not like team league had the quickest queues ever to begin with.

The rest of it is a marked improvement, however.

Unranked queue seems reasonable so far, i wonder what mmr it uses. Im assuming qm mmr or it's own, but hotslogs puts it with hl, probably due to technical stuff

Yep, seeded from QM til it can establish a new MMR for you.

It's great for being able to play with groups again. Great for playing up and down MMR ranges when you don't have enough for team league. Even a great introduction for new players before they get into real ranked.

The only downside to it will be if it cannibalizes QM or HL too much. QM because you can no longer play what you want which hurts the business model (and also my preferred playstyle), and HL if people would rather have drafting but without the stress.

EDIT: It's kind of amusing watching a bunch of the pros and folks like chu8 struggle to get into Master and Grandmaster. They really thought they'd all steamroll it like Wiz did.

It's only good for the game IMO if they keep struggling like this for another few days. It's not worth much if everyone hits it on day one and two.

I doubt the queues for qm or hl will be hurt too much by unranked, and providing the option is a positive to me for sure.

I hope not. They don't seem to be so far. If any it would be Quick Match, IMO, but /shrug.

I think it's more likely that queues will continue popping just as regularly as ever, but that the matchmaking would have to be loosened a bit for whatever mode sees the exodus should it occur.

Id prob be more worried about hl if i had to be worried about it, since qm needs to exist being the only option for ppl who dont own the prerequisite heroes (dont remember if there is also an account level requirement)

So how is it that they can't get in? Not sure exactly how the system works.

They grind to diamond 1 similar to the old system and then lose the promotion match?

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
I have a feeling I'm just going to land in bronze league and forever be stuck there. Only 3 placements so far, lost 2, one was because of a laning Nova that had 0 kills. Yuck

There's that not much variance for existing players who did ranked before. All the MMRs on hotslogs have been adjusted to the new league rankings, so whatever your Hotslogs MMR is should give you a good indication of where you will go into the system.

Everyone went down by about 200 points from what we can see in heroe league MMR, which means everyone was slightly overrated on hotslogs compared to where Blizzard thinks they are. gold league here I come!

Just losing promotion matches. Win one, lose one doesn't rank you up in this like it did the old way.

Looks like chu8 and his duo partner Rawrior are on there now. Yuuj made it as well.

Seems like most everyone who was rank 1 should end up somewhere in Diamond or high Platinum from all I'm seeing. Unless you go like 2-8 or something.

when I quit playing I was getting 60 for a win and losing 90 for a loss so win one lose one actually lost me ranks, does the new system prevent that too?

Well, I'm going based on the MMR "soft reset". Last time they did that, you got your bonus again IIRC so you could win one lose one and rank up.

Now you have to keep winning to rank up anywhere. I suspect most people will stay right around where they get placed unless they were like these guys (way higher MMR but were given the "maximum placement" which was actually lower than their real placement). It takes into account your matchup and everything to determine points now. Not sure if it did before. There's 200 points on the line in every game IIRC.

Apparently Rich puts out damage on Medivh like the rest of us put out damage on actual damage dealing heroes.

I don't get it. If dude is so good at HOTS, it feels like he'd just play a more challenging game. Then again, getting to be top dog and dat money as a big fish in a small pond is easier than getting into League or what have you and competing with the Faker's of the world.

Thank you all very much for all the feedback.

There has been a ton of debate and theory crafting about our proposed changes, but also a ton of unique, fun and interesting suggestions and counterpoints. While I encourage you all to continue posting about this topic, I think we’ve got what we we’re looking for with this thread. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more feedback.

Here is a rough summary of where the design team is at, after accounting all the feedback:

Regeneration Globes:
The majority of players liked the suggestion of making these more meaningful. Internally we have been enjoying our 12/8 testing on these and have just started experimenting with making these globes time out quicker. We’ll continue testing this but we hope to push out something in the future for you guys to play with.
We’re still discussing the numerous other ideas associated with Globes such as giving them an XP component, granting stats, or something else.

Healing Fountains:
It seems the general consensus is that these are working pretty well as is, but a small change here might be good. We will keep exploring our slight change that has increased the CD and mana return slightly. Overall, we’re pretty happy with this change, and we agree we don’t need to do anything too drastic here.

Passive Regeneration & Sustain Talents:
We will NOT be making changes to passive regeneration or regeneration talents as a whole. There was a ton of feedback here and overall we agree. This was mostly an experiment on our part, but it was great to see all of your reasons for and against these changes (mostly against).

Support Characters:
Agree there needs to be a discussion focused on Support characters at some point. I will sync up with the rest of the design team to gather our thoughts and see where we stand on supports. Expect a new thread about this in the future.

Quick Match:
Agree that we need to be conscious of how QM games play with these changes, especially those without supports. The 12/8 globes may help here though, as completing a map event (i.e. Immortals) will replenish some additional resources now.

Thank you for the responses! It’s great to see such passionate, well thought out, discussions from the community.

What if globes gave a lot more but after say 5 minutes in caster minions didn't drop them anymore?

that really doesn't work with regen master and stuff but still would be neat to solidify a "lanning" stage

ehhh don't like this idea much. Regen master quests are fun for a lot of people, and this really punishes heroes like Nova and Zeratul for not laning.

havent played in awhile. Need to checkout the new unranked mode. Plus I need to get back on my daily quest grind so I can buy Medivah. Got all heroes unlocked except him

Did play last week though but got out of the habit of playing daily

So, with 2 hero holes left, after those come out this daed game is finished and they move on to Warcraft 4, correct?

Medivh splash looks so good, they even got wc3 voice actor unlike in hearthstone, cmon /rant

There's also a cool little easter egg on the splash screen where if you click on the summoning stone and the portal at the entrance of kharazan it will summon Chromie. :p

edit: Boy does kharazan bring back memories O_O

The opera was such an amazing raid fight.

Man, the dudes on THH threw some serious shade at Naventic in the latest THH...which also happened to be a rare good one.

They are basically being looked at by Dunk/Caff/Srey/Jake as little better than one of the lesser region's top qualifiers. I hope NVT listened and gets it together and shows something at HGC.

Srey was actually pretty good. Spoke clearly, spoke up often, had thoughts and questions. Far better than the vast majority of guests they've had.
