Holy hell what rank was the Zag?
5-4 so far in solo ranking. Lost the first 3 placement which I am thinking may have tanked my rating but we'll see. Was able to join up with a friend for my most recent 3. I would have really liked to do one more but it was getting too late.
So is it just common courtesy for both teams to ban KT and the Wizard? Every single game except one had those two banned out first (both teams).

KT and Li-Ming are typically first bans, yes. You'll also sometimes see: Tracer, Illidan, Lt. Morales, Rehgar and sometimes Tassadar.
There are times when you'll see bans targeted at certain heroes if you know someone on the other team plays them well, but that's typically high high up in the rankings.
They're generally the default first bans for a team that doesn't do a lot of discussion/planning before the first ban, which is most HL teams. They're rarely the optimal ban, but they're safe bans.

First ban should ban something you're afraid of (not morales), won't pick 1st and isn't KT

i personally have been banning Zagara first then just pick something like Anub when the enemy team innevitably picks KT or Li Ming.

My god, this game has become miserable.
I finished out my placements today (solo) to go 5-5 and place Diamond 3. Every single game there was at least one person bitching if not 2 more often than not. The best one was the last game on ToD. Had a guy with 6k games critiquing everyone's picks right off the bat.
Us: Tracer, Lt. Morales, Dehaka, Greymane, Raynor
Them: Tassadar, Tyrande, Diablo, Xul, Valla
It was pretty even all game. At one point we were down 20 something to 8. We kept wiping them over and over. Was some pretty sweet justice to pull it out after he bitched the entire game. "I knew how this was going to go from the draft". Oh, did you now?
Very limited playtime and this is what I deal with when I do get a chance to dedicate some time to it. Really sucks. Maybe I should just start muting everyone.
Edit - Nice to see Schamtoo is coming back to HoTS by casting.

I know exactly how you feel.
I think gotta grow thicker skin. Muting everybody is kind of a bad strat maybe because sometimes communication can win the game. Although 99/100 communication is worthless garbage.
Alternatively, could just play OW and only like two games of hots since that came out.

Just play Team League. Was having a conversation w/ someone a few days ago w/ an interesting seperate perspective (the game's clearly not doing well as an "e-sport", apparently killing 3-4 player groups may have hurt more than we realize) but it also drew me to an interesting conclusion: Hero League is a quarantine zone in this game.
Do your placements, then stop. Do Unranked and TL only, and you'll enjoy the game so much more. Because the style of play HL encourages is ultimately kind of naturally toxic, un-fun and goes against what makes the game great.

I'm just not sold on OW. It's pretty fun, but not something I could see myself playing for more than a few games a day. I used to be huge into FPS's, but not anymore. :\

These channels are NA only channels, correct? I am EU and tried joining them, and both the frogpants and amovetv channel are empty.
Join /team league. I've met some cool people already on there doing placements.
I just play a couple games of OW a day. It's fun and has become a game I will play for a long time, but it's no MOBA/Fighting Game for me. Doesn't scratch the same itch.

Will do. I used to just get people through Reddit and ARAM. That was when I could play during the afternoon. It seems I can mostly play before 10a and possibly after 10p.
I didn't. I was planning on it, but the very high early pre-Reg's scared me off of it because I knew the venue was going to be sardine city. Definitely gonna try for next year, flights from DC->ORL are super cheap.
OW = the Smash Bros of FPSes. Great casual game, tournaments will need special rules.
yeah the news that they are gonna be going to a bigger venue got kind of lost in all the SFV news. Maybe a larger hotel? There's some big ones in Orlando.

More tanks need to be just as viable
I'd like to see a sword and shield tank with a trait and/or abilities based on block charges. We have lots of warriors that regen health either actively or passively, and some with self-shields, but I'd like to see one take the block mechanic further as a way of mitigating damage.

I can't even believe you were playing solo. I know you did for a bit a while back, but 9 times out of 10 you wouldn't step foot in HL (and for a long time QM) solo. I honestly wouldn't read much into it. It's just like any time we play. Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail. 4 straight game of shitters and ragers, then the next day everything goes smooth. HOTSlyfe the most inconsistent lyfe.

Interesting. I did notice more complaining in my hero league placement matches than a typical QM where no one talks or really cares what anyone else is doing. I find it amusing that there's a pop up in QM saying "disable allied chat if you want!".
I still have one more match before I place. I kinda wanted to get into improving my rank and stuff this time around, but I could see my will being sapped pretty quickly by the "we lost gg" attitude.
The unranked Ketch and I did begs to differ lol.

My biggest beef is when people will go afk during the draft (ranked draft).
Bans will go to waste if they get picked as the leader. Or they'll pick a character and go afk thinking it'll get locked and the opposing team picks it and it'll default to some character or class that you don't need.

I've had good luck and good comps in unranked. I play it far more than any other mode now, since I'm usually playing with the wife and she's not real interested in ranks. We went like 8-0 this weekend, and I have more wiggle room in trying heroes I'm not 100% with yet. I really like it, way better than QM.
Lol, I know this feel. Dude wanted to 4th pick Nova. I banned her 2nd phase. Dude says "You wanna ban Nova? Lol." Waits till the last second and picks Murky.

I had the 8 game quest yesterday and wanted to level medivh to 5. It took till game 7 for me to give up and play medivh in quickmatch.
Always had to fill in roles or the times I was perfectly in the middle to get him, the opponents picked him away.
Now I only have Rexxar, Stitches, Butcher and Dehaka at 1 (not counting chogall) but no intention to play any of them.
