"This game isn't so difficult on very hard, I just need to not get hit"

*Meets a Sawtooth for the first time*

Oooooooooh... Shit!

Definitely this. Playing the game on Hard and slighty over leveled for this lvl7 double Sawtooth quest.

Strolled in like 'yo wassup you low level trash mobs' and got my ass handed to me multiple times.

Such a great feeling when I finally got them both after luring one out and using all my different weapons to get the job done.

Man, this is game is sooo sublime; from the way Aloy traverses through obstacles and the fluid movement of the robo-dinos. From flipping through the menus and the map (it feels weird, like its 60 fps).

Hate that I have to go to school right now and write a report, then on Thursday night I'm getting the Switch with Zelda!

Gurerilla learned the most important lesson from Witcher 3. If you have to use a special vision to track stuff, dont force us to walk slowly to be able to track said trail.

Being able to tag a track and then move around normally is smart.

Exactly, honestly this feels like such a dream to play compared to TW3, I couldn't stand the clunky movement, combat and excruciatingly long load times.

So far, the only gripe I have with this game is killing humans (because boring). Everything else is tops. Killing a Watcher in one shot is. the. best. feeling.

What a game! Fantastic stuff. Loving the combat, the traps etc and the story has really grabbed me and Im not even out the first area really. Alloy is a great character too. Such a beautifully designed world and im really getting into the crafting which I dont usually in other games.

"Deactivate" your quest in the menu
Was about to come back and post this. I turn off compass and dynamic for everything else. Quest marker will always stay on so it's best to deactivate them when you can.

For as many hud options there is, I wished there was more. The compass is always off but it still comes on for a few seconds sometimes. Maybe near campfires? I also have to nitpick the fact that you can't turn off the sparkle above tall grass. It's helpful from a gameplay perspective but at the same time I'd rather just look at the environment myself.

Apologies for the compression (had to pull them off my Twitter) but god damn do I love photo mode. Going to do the Proving tonight, but I'm loving the game so far.

Knocking out all of the side quests and errands before moving to another area. I'm glad I looked at a list I completely missed a small town with a few quests.

I had like 500 pieces of wood by the first 5 hours. Never running out of arrows.
I was sooooo ready for the proving, nothing was going to stop me. Went there at like level 9 lol

And doing errands and quest before a mission doesn't really feel like a chore either. But man, the main quest just ramps up, you really can put your foot on the gas...

Huh, I bought a few of these purple things from the special items of a vendor, and now I have a bunch of places marked on my map. I think they're the collectibles.

With the mixed impressions of disappointing framerate and performance and unsure feelings about the overworld and voice acting, I'm not sure what to expect now, because for me, Horizon NAILED those aspects of open world gaming. I was honestly looking forward to Horizon less than Zelda 1 month ago, but now I can't stop thinking about Horizon. It's at least making the wait for Friday more bearable to me :) I can't wait to have both in my collection, either way.

What are your thoughts after reading so many impressions and now finally getting the game? XD

is it what you expected?

Not played Horizon yet (mine came today) but I've played 3 hours of Zelda on the Wii U so far and from the little I've seen of the game in my short time with it, the voice acting does the job but I've not seen a lot of it so far, this is not story heavy, at least at the start.

Gameplay is where Zelda really comes into it's own though, the world is one big sandbox and gives you a lot of freedom, kinda reminds me of MGS V, in just how fun the open world can be. The abilities you acquire are a lot of fun to use and can be openly used in the open world too, without going into too much detail.

Will have a better idea of how it compares to Horizon when I get home in a little while but from what I've seen, it looks a pretty different type of game to Horizon, with a big focus on survival and resource gathering.

Also the framerate is a little rough in places, on Wii U anyway but it never stopped me enjoying the game and it runs at 30fps, without dips in a lot of places too.

Might have to play it on a larger screen if you aren't, but the foliage always goes light/dark/light/dark with the slightest movement on the y-axis, and I even exaggerated the movement of the screen just so that it could be seen easier for that video. It produces an almost strobing effect on all of the grass and trees. Slight lighting or shadow changes wouldn't do that, and when pretty much the entire screen is full of waving grass everywhere, it's horrible to look at. It's like watching something on a decade old LCD where the picture dithers badly if you move your head in the slightest.

It's the most noticebale in the first part of the video closer to the end, and in the second part of the video it's pretty apparent the entire time on the grass.

I noticed it in the second part of the video after someone pointed it out. Are you sure it's not just the game and definitely your display?

I love how movement orientated the combat is. The first time I aimed the bow and started jogging while scoped I knew this combat would be special.

This is one of those rare games where being spotted during a perfect stealth run doesn't feel frustrating simply because the combat is such a joy.

Gushing, I know, but it's deserved.

What is this fucking witchcraft running on my PS4 slim right now.

Good lord.
I'm very impressed by the performance on a regular PS4. I've seen drops, but it's good enough. It's an open world game (the best looking one ever made), there's gonna be drops.

So when I get near grazers sometimes Aloy will remark that in order to
override
them I need to "learn where they came from" first. Is this some kind of queue telling me I can do so when I advance more in the story or what?

Yes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it the AA usage (especially depending on what kind of AA you use) what makes the IQ softer, not downsampling?
Downsampling should make the image cleaner and with less jaggies without the softness of AA, but I wonder if the checkerboard is what makes it look softer than usual.

In resolution mode on a 1080 display, wouldn't it downsample from its native, highest resolution before checkboarding? I mean why would it need checkboard rendering if you're not on a 4k display.

So I'm playing on Very Hard and while I don't mind the incoming damage, do enemies have more health? The fight in the
Cauldron
took at least 5 minutes and I used a fuck ton of ammo.

When you reach the proper overworld.

Wow.

Then you spend an hour in intense battles, check the map again, and you've travelled about three inches (of 25).

Wow.

Then you reach the main (pretty big location spoiler)
city
.

Wow.

Then you start seeing loads of different machine types.

Wow.
That's what's happened to me this morning. I'm overwhelmed - in a good way.

Is it just me or is gathering and harvesting resources addictive? I need ALL the plants and metals!

Not just you, I've spent a ton of time gathering and killing wildlife for the different meats needed to upgrade the inventory.

It's very easy to get distracted in this game doing side stuff.

Rebel Leader

THE POWER OF BUTTERSCOTCH BOTTOMS
I have to report....

Launch ps4 after hours is still luke warm (yes I opened it up and used compressed air to clear the dust)

Probably the most Ive said holy shit while playing a game.

And funny thing is, it's during gameplay. Watching the robots explode and realising you made a great plan to take them out is such a rush.

I was literally forcing myself to play Witcher 3 - don't get me wrong - the game is well done, but the clunky ass controls and awful combat were really keeping me from getting hooked.

This game... I'm at work and all I can think about is playing when I get home.

I don't know about you guys but I haven't been using any mounts whatsoever. Traversing the world on foot is so satisfying in this game I don't even feel the need to use fast travel because I will miss a lot of resources on the way.

FFXV had a big world however I couldn't stand walking there because every area was so empty and lifeless. Great job GG! When walking and exploring feels great that's when you know you've created a wonderful open world.

I don't know if it's the same for the rest of you, but learning how to take out a specific machine has changed from me being hunted by them to me hunting them is great. It's such a satisfying feeling going into a battle and knowing which parts to take out on certain enemies and how that can help you not only with them, but surrounding machines.

hmm yeah I guess you're right, didn't think about that.

In resolution mode on a 1080 display, wouldn't it downsample from its native, highest resolution before checkboarding? I mean why would it need checkboard rendering if you're not on a 4k display.
That's not how it works.
4K IS the native resolution. It's just that the 4K resolution is achieved using checkerboard rendering. When downsampling, how a resolution is achieved is irrelevant, the only factor is what resolution it is downsampling from which in this case is 4K since that's the size of the final framebuffer.

Just because you are on a 1080P TV doesn't mean the game will suddenly stop rendering at checkerboard 4K and instead change its framebuffer size from 4K checkerboard to the resolution it's checkerboarding from.

This game looks amazing on my JS9000 and my surround sound plays the dialogue perfectly fine (meaning it comes out of the proper speaker, position). Sucks for anyone that has that issue.
