Execution is everythingSo paging through the positive and negative reviews, my sense is that it structurally is a pretty generic open world game, but the core combat gameplay and design, along with the surrounding systems of resources management, really puts it a head and shoulders above a genre that is starting to erode upon people.

You can finish the main quest in about 15 hours if you don't let other stuff distract you. Not short idd, but it might feel that way for a game like this
Yes, games should only get good reviews by being reviewed by people who like them.Yes, but his score it ain't fair then. Change the reviewer?
Why? I'm hoping I'll love the game as reviewers apparently are, but there's nothing wrong with a healthy dose of skepticism for a developer that has been questionable in the past.
Yeah, I'm glad those of us who pointed out their new hires have been vindicated with the praise to the storyReally respect a studio who can recognize their limit and shortcoming and do something to be better.

wow, when's the last time Giant Bomb, Jim Sterling, IGN, and Kotaku all loved the same game?
I think the story helps it stand out as much as anything if these reviews are anything to go by.

interesting, somewhat divisive but mostly positive so far. pretty much in line with what I would have expected.
Come on USGamer, this just sounds like nit-picking to justify the score...
I mean, fuck, isn't that most open world games ever? Seems unfair that it's the main complaint of this game. I mean, was anyone going into this game not expecting side quests that involved doing...you know, the main mechanic of the game?
I didn't go into the new Tomb Raider games expecting to NOT kill people.

I see we have started to review the reviews.
http://wegotthiscovered.com/gaming/horizon-zero-dawn-review/Now that I've spent 40-plus hours with one of my most anticipated games of the year, how does it line up with the expectations I had for it? Well, I'm happy to say... quite beautifully. Horizon Zero Dawn is a stunningly gorgeous game, an awesome open world action-RPG that overcomes the gameplay conventions of the genre by giving you so many options on how to tackle combat. It does stumble a bit trying to tell a cohesive story, but I was too caught up in exploring all the little details of the world to let that bother me. If you've got a PS4 and you're looking to totally lose yourself in a fully-realized universe bursting with things to discover, there aren't many better choices than Guerrilla Games' fresh new IP.
56 hours is not much?Only worried abit about the length. 96% completion is 56 hours is not much. Guess need to hear some more player feedback.
also this Predict the Flops of 2017
Why are you here?So bummed I don't like video games anymore with these great reviews coming out.
I smell a new wall of shame cooking. Might not top the U3 Eurogamer atrocity, but teeth-gnashing over one poor review always makes for good toilet reading in the morning.
