Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
The blowback to this game is gonna be rough guys. The honeymoon period will be sweet as titty, but man I tell you, y'all gonna come back to this like "What the fuck was so special about it besides it's graphics and the enemy design?"

Well going off the other impressions it seems like the controls are on point and responsive, the enemies are varied, complex and tough to take down, the music sounds wonderful from the snippets I've heard, the open world itself seems rather varied with a lot of emergent reactions from the NPC's and machines. Obviously its not working for you but unless everyone else I've seen talking or playing the game, and not just on this forum, has been pretty positive on a variety of aspects about the game even stuff like how diverse the cast is.

Leveling up in this game doesn't bother me or feel like overlevling did in witcher or most RPGS. The only stat that rises with leveling is health which is needed as you fight tougher guys. The rest are just skills you learn which adds to your arsenal of moves, I don't see them as making things that much easier, just making the game have more options for the tough enemies.

Stats and weapon spoilers

All the attack stats come from weapons themselves and you will not get higher weapons until the game allows you to buy them at specific merchants which you find as you advance the story. So the level of weapons you get are always paced exactly as the devs intend.

I never feel I am super over leveled or anything for my current mission. When I played witcher 3 I leveled up so fast that I had to put it on death March and still it was super easy.

Ah so i guess you can't go extreme like you do in other RPGs from the get go .

And I'm saying this as someone who is halfway done, with all the sides complete and a shitload of trophies.

At its worst, it's as good as the western open world RPGs that come before it, just shorter and less bloated with extraneous collectibles and quests that don't matter.

At its best, it's a really special RPG adventure that combines lots of good elements from games that don't always go together with a setting you won't really find elsewhere.

This can be true and still people can love the game. I said before the enemies are the special thing that's unique to this game. Outside of that it's a collection of genre tropes and ideas all done well but nothing that really stands out. The graphics, the beautiful world they made and these enemies are special. But if you are like me and hunt nearly everything in your path the majority of the time I am in some great battles, I am usually not doing a quest. So I am loving my time with it, I am maximizing my time with what makes this game special.

So your miles will vary, if you don't enjoy fighting the robots then there isn't much here that stands out.

I'm glad I've managed to stay alive this long, so that I can pass the story of this thread onto my ancestors.

If they are lucky, they will find the tale scrawled on the walls of ancient ruins and then they can set forth on their journey to discover the mystery of how the land came to be covered in machine-like white womenz.

It even suffers from Far Cry Syndrome in that you can absolutely overlevel yourself doing all sorts of side stuff before any main quests (that end up being way more exciting than the shit story missions). It's LITERALLY the same fucking thing in how systematic it is.

Fucking Ubisoft, inventing the idea of being able to overlevel yourself so the main story becomes easier. /s

Like what in the actual hell has happened in this thread?

Why are you all taking the bait? I come back to see 5 extra pages in a short time and I was excited because I thought Lamp, Slasher, or Wesker posted something juicy and its everyone getting angsty over race-bait.

Anyway, my hype is skyrocketed after the impressions. Honestly think it will be meta 90-93 range in score now.

We're still trying to figure out what was behind the mysterious disappearance of the white women.

lol
just upload your gameplay vid pls.

So... Mean white people & nice everyone else = racial pandering?

Is that supposed to be serious...?

Pretty much every RPG ever has over leveling possible.
Final Fantasy, Bloodborne, etc etc, all allow you to do that.
Its just a factor of having levels and skills that are based on experience.

Well then why are you the only person who is saying this out of all the early impressions? Just seems odd to me lol.

I'm confused I missed like three pages and than shit happens is the music guy trolling, what about a white woman? Are we upset because GG actually put dark skin In a game I'm lost lol

And I swear to god i hate that honeymoon shit so bad.

Is the combat as shitty as Witchers?

The only caveat to that is you have been back and forth with the game since playing. Versus me for example that's just been loving it more and more. I could end up hating or disliking it but as of now I'm still super enthralled. Interesting to see your back and forth thoughts but they are yours to have. Thanks for letting us know.

The number 1 thing i want this game for is the combat and gfx
Since almost everyone saying they nail it the combat i not to worry about anything else.

The Witcher was awful for it, maybe worse then FF15. Not sure why that bothers people, play quests for fun, not just to see your level go up.

Well in Witcher 3 you had the choice to have enemies scale to you or not. If let them scale with you it was a bit more of a challenge. Though, before doing this I over-leveled so much the unscaled enemies didn't catch up until BaW

Didn't the devs say enemies scale with Aloy's level? And that they don't really have levels, but a challenge rank instead?

Man reading this thread as me so hyped, Just 9 more days.

Finished ROTTR last night so i got that game out of the way before HZD

Just have to get threw the doctor apportionment on the 22nd which has me a little scare.

Nice! Witchers combat was very very clunky. Thank god.

It's much better than The Witchers.

I really wish it had some more melee combat variety, like maybe some cool air strikes or more finishers or combos something. But I guess they need to leave something for Horizon 2.

Uploading gameplay.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
This is guerilla's first stab at an open world RPG, hell an RPG in general.

If the biggest complaint is that its got systems other popular games have but is still fun to play and has beautiful graphics, that's a pretty good outcome all things considered.

So if it does the usual genre tropes well, but excels in areas such as combat, graphics, and enemy design then I can't see myself having any kind of blow back on this game. I can't speak for others, but it's pretty hard to imagine a majority of people will change their initial opinion on it if those 3 factors are that good.

Miami explain how you can't over level to much .
