Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

Probably been answered, but what's the armour variety like? Is there a lot of difference types or mostly just the same with different stats?

Different sets with different stats but overall the look doesn't variate all that much. Still nice looking but don't expect tons of armor or huge differences.

Each set focuses on different stat boosts, but you can customize with modifications. There seems to be like at least
15
or so armors she can wear, and I'm not even done with the game.

I gotta catch my Zs but I will miss what the review thread brings if this thread is anything to go by.
I don't even really care about the scores.. i just want to see the thread. I don't think I've seen such a crazy reaction to reviews since Uncharted 3 on this site.

Same. It is almost a given that it will perform quite well critically. I just want some laughs from the review thread more than anything else.

I just don't understand how GG achieved this level of visual fidelity.

they're amazing at tech. Killzone showcased that.

I think what's amazing here is the fact that they managed to marry their skills at doing sci-fi futurism with the prehistoric aesthetics and make it all cohesive. The Horizon world is truly amazing. The woods near
Meridian
with the
twisty palm trees and the one big warped trunk near the bridge. Someone actually put effort into placing it where it sits
. I thought that when I saw it.

NO!

I have to be there from the get-go

I've got a feeling that review thread will be...memorable.

Seeing the embargo countdown, I'm reminded of Hermen Hulst in the lead up to the Shadow Fall embargo. I remember him seeming very excited for the results and tweeted something along the lines of it being the culmination of 10 years of work. Then he went silent. I have a feeling he may be a bit more chatty after this one is up.

Wtf this thread, apocashitstorm lol. So I fought the biggest thing I have seen, a proper boss battle. This game continues to impress.

As for zelda, I have no doubt zelda will be the better game for me and many others if that's what you like. Zelda is going to do what zelda does and hopefully much more. In the end even though they are both open world games zelda will be about puzzles, items, mini games, all sorts of crazy gameplay variety. Horizon is about fighting giant robots, and I doubt anything outside boss battles in zelda will match the combat of horizon. You can love both for their own reasons. The reason I paid extra money to get an early copy of this game is so I can enjoy it fully before zelda. We are going to have three game of the generation like games (hopefully) coming out back to back to back, it's ok to love them all.

As for this being a WRPG I find that to be a huge stretch. If this is an RPG then GTA is an RPG, far cry, tomb raider, RDR, zelda, are all RPGs. This is an action adventure open world game through and through.

Apparently you're not allowed to be hyped about any game anymore because of nms. I guess people being dissapointed about one game nullifies every game before and after nms that people were hyped about that ended up great.
Which is weird because NMS isn't even the most hyped game I've seen, it's just one that turned out to be a bad game.

- TLG delivered
- FF15 delivered
- Bloodborne delivered
- Nioh delivered
- UC4 delivered

Next up

Horizon
Persona 5
Zelda BotW
Mass Effect
Nier (more niche but hyped)
RDR

Seems to me most games hyped end up pleasing a majority of fans more often than not. NMS is an anomaly IMO, not the norm.

Someone needs to bring back that Witcher 3 gif where they open the coffin and the vampire is and asks about the date but use Feb 28 instead of whatever date W3 was. I always loved that one.

I'd say it's an action adventure game as well with light RPG elements. Either way. One hell of a game. I like fun, exciting, new world's to discover and this game hits all the right moments.

This has long been my general impression on the matter going way back to my comparison thread. Zelda will excel in having ludicrous gameplay variety while managing to have a solid amount depth in all of its subsystems and level design to take advantage of pretty much everything. Examples of this are the Shrines and Dungeons.

Horizon will bunker down on its awesome enemy designs and strong core combat and designs the vast majority of its challenges around them (like it should). The Trials, Corruption Zones and Cauldrons are perfect examples of that.

Neither Approach is bad and both are incredibly ambitious in their own ways.

Maybe, but it has systems borrowed from WRPGs, including getting XP, leveling up, crafting and upgrading gear and weapons, side quests and towns and NPCs. Those are very RPG-esque even if it doesn't have you controlling a party of blue-haired people

Impressions look pretty positive to say the least. This might be my first $60 purchase in quite some time.
Edit:Holy shit, I'm no longer a junior anymore! Now that I'm no longer in fear of a permanent ban, I can stop holding myself back.....to some extent.

Crafting is the same as Tomb raider, leveling up is the same as far cry. The only thing I see RPGish are the stats and mods.

Do you feel like you stumble uppon unintended goodies and secrets throughout the world? That is one of my favorite things about Zelda.

You stumble upon awesome AI moments. There are stuff to find and collect, most of it is marked on the map already (you could not buy the map that shows them to you but whatever, it's pretty obvious). You are not going to find an interesting puzzle, or cave with a mini game or something inside. The game is what it is, you fight robot animals.

Yeah, and all those games are borrowing RPG-style mechanics. And that's okay. It's popular for action games to borrow RPG-esque mechanics for their own means.
