How can Microsoft win back your heart for XB1?

Some people just want to see the world burn.

Jus kidding, MS always had me from the beginning, power means fuck all to me next to gameplay and services. Sony is king for first party (so far). If MS let them pass them by again, they'll lose my attention and money. But I have a good feeling about first party games this generation.

Now and days new games go on sale all the time. I bought a brand new copy of Tomb Raider for $25 a month after it was released from amazon. I've already bought an Xbox one copy of TitanFall for $50 from amazon as well. There are deals everyday for games it's never been an issue. I can't be the only person that sees that.

Are those physical copies? Have you often paid attention to how Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft handle prices for their games as digital releases? The only platform that has frequent discounts of new-ish titles would be Steam. Sony's done that with Vita via PS+, but that's because they're trying to fix a meteor crash.

You very rarely get true deals for console games on a digital service ran by the first party company. Everyone who has made the argument for discounts via physical or the digital discounts via Steam always tend to forget that the digital marketplaces that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft run have no competition in those ecosystems. They run the show and control the gates, and the stagnation of game prices is a perfect indicator for this. Leaving them to control the whole show can only produce disastrous results. They don't have a competitor that can offer the same product on the same platform for a cheaper price when it comes to digitally released console games.

Looking at the stuff I'm disappointed with:
- Terrible announcement (TV/sports/DRM)
- Weaker than the PS4
- Bigger than the PS4 (Wtf at this one. It's so big)
- Lttp with their new indie program
- More expensive than the PS4
- Late release in Norway

...and the stuff I'm interested in:
+ Awesome first party lineup. (I'm serious. Killer Instinct + Project Spark + Quantum Break etc etc. It's looking great.)
+ Improved controller (finally a decent D-pad)
+ Improved Kinect
+ Promising OS

...this is what they should do
  • Reduce the price
  • Keep up the games support
  • Release a slim model within 3 years
  • Dig into their own library and release games like Banjothreeie, PGR5, Splosion Man 3 and Crackdown 3
  • New IPs as well
  • Take a long hard look at what went wrong with the initial announcement of the Xbone and decide to never do that again. That goes for both the announcement itself and the original philosophy behind XBO.
I don't mind Phil Spencer, but they should try to get more of their own devs and producers to appear at their major conferences. Guys like Henry Sterchi, Ken Lobb and Ted Timmins. They seem really passionate about what they do, and I think that's excactly what the Xbox brand needs right now.

I feel like Microsoft will have to do damage control throughout the entire generation. Partly because of the initial announcement (TV, sports and DRM), but also because of the hardware design.

One of their major problems if they want to reel me in is that the PS4 is most likely going to become my multiplatform and indie machine. Microsoft might be able to catch up on the indie front, but they can't change the Xbox One's hardware. Because of that, it will take Microsoft's own exclusives to convince me. Right now it's looking really great, but I want to see the games lineup for 2014/2015 before I decide if I want one or not.

Just flat out guarantee they'll NEVER implement the DRM policies they wanted to do. I still won't buy one because I believe they'll eventually do it.

Nothing to do with "heart".

It's just a more sensible purchase once XboneGold offers free games like PS+, it gets exclusives I'm interested in, it uses cloud power to make the games look better than on PS4, and whenever it drops down in price.

Dedicated server for all mp games. No lag ever again.

Lagless mp experience will be a bigger draw than better graphics.
Netcode is the no.1 cause of lag, not P2P. Dedicated servers won't save you from lag if developers use a shit lag comp and I'm all for dedicated, I'm just not blind to contributing factors.

Topic:

1) Shut the fuck up
2) Drop Kinect
3) 350
4) Remove paywall on regular apps and make XBL more attractive like PS+

I laughed.

to be honest, in my view microsoft has done so many stupid things over the years that i genuinely dont think anything will win me over now. i played the 360 all the time until the xbone got announced and the day after i went out and brought a ps3 and i honestly wish i had sooner.

Show that they're in this "console videogame" business for the long haul. No Year One/Early Year Two partnerships and game titles, only to be sacked off/studios killed completely once they thirst for the casual.

They seemingly did it with Sega on Xbox 1, then they did it to a hell of a lot of their own studios with Xbox 360.

So its gonna take 3 years for me to trust them again, and that means just flat out investing in videogames for the core all the while.

Price drop. I won't be buying one at $500. I've never spent that much on a console and I don't intend to start now. I wasn't going to buy one at all with the earlier restrictions in place, but now it just comes down to price.

The power stuff is meaningless IMO. It won't matter in the end.

Nothing. The damage is already done.

This. They lost my trust. As a matter of fact, they lost my trust even before Xbox One came around due to the last 3 years of handling the Xbox 360.

I would be crazy to buy the Xbox One, knowing that they'll no doubt re-implement their DRM policies bit-by-bit once the install base for it becomes very big.

A lot.

-Backward compatibility, either system-based or with a lag-free Gaikai-like streaming service (which is included with Gold)
-A proper Banjo game
-$100 off the price

My standards weren't this high before they tried to fuck me. Before it was just "make good games." Now they'll have to actually show contrition. But they won't. It's PS4 for me. Better luck next time.

-kinectless model for cheaper than PS4. $350?
-stop putting features that are free elsewhere behind gold (netflix, hbo go, twitch, etc)
-increase value of gold by continuing games with gold promotion
-steam-like marketplace sales with 90+% discounts on older games
-stop using proprietary hard drives, allow the user to swap it out like PS3/PS4

Well, I have both PS4 and XB1 pre-ordered. But for MS to win my heart and get my money for multiplats on XB1, then that dGPU rumor nonsense would have to be true, making the system more powerful/capable than PS4.

$199

No Kinect

Emphasis on first party games and studios rather than bullshit timed exclusive DLC and NFL deals

Smaller console redesign that supports user replaceable hard drive.

Internal power supply (you know you need to spend more time on hardware design when Sony builds a system that's more powerful AND significantly smaller AND has an internal PSU.)

Fire the entire PR team and hire people who are actually passionate about gaming (the excitement from the Xbox team at the time of the Xbox 360 reveal was insane whereas this time it's all calculated PR horse shit from people with no humility or sense of humor.)

Stop placing media apps like Netflix and the web browser (fucking LOL) behind a paywall

HONESTY. All the PR spin with regard to system power is doing more harm than good. It's actually somewhat insulting how stupid they think we are.

Unfortunately I think enough people will buy it to ensure most of this stuff never happens.

1) Games that are actually good, not just hype generators

2) possible price drop/version without Kinect

3) Evidence of better online experience vs PS4

Get rid of the TV crap, use a gpu comparable to the PS4, and make that hideous box pleasing to the eyes. Also, drop the price to 399 and remove all apps from behind the paywall. If they got rid of Gold altogether and made online gaming free than they would win back many gamers.

Wishful thinking that will never be fulfilled.

I think its too late now honestly... Its really more trust I've lost with them.
The things they can try improving next round though are:

1. Show they're more committed to games/gamers. I don't class MS jumping on the COD/Fifa, etc. bandwagon as looking out for gamers, so their target market seemingly doesn't really include me.

2. Just their attitude towards things. Not really a good thing to say pretty much "Deal with it" and I feel they're treating us like idiots too a lot really "infinite power of cloud" etc. If they were really aiming at gamers, they would know they wouldn't fall for this easily, just further enforces the view they're targeting casuals and people who primarily play COD/Fifa.

3. Make Live better. I just don't see the value in Live anymore, its just forced upon us. PS+ is too now admittedly, but I thin Sony were clever in making it optional for PS3. I saw the value in it immediately and was wholeheartedly planning to get again for PS4,

Thats it really, funnily enough I dont really have any issues with them hardware wise... Yeah I dont like the forced kinect mostly, fair enough if its more required for game use, (Which will probably be minor in the end anyway), but for the main menu, I don't see the need.
Theres also it being less powerful, bigger box, powerbrick, but they're not as important really. If all of these were classed for PS4 instead, still a good chance I'd be more leaning for PS4 because of their attitude towards things and etc. (Though the less power thing would be something more significant)

Also: You bring back Panzer Dragoon to kill it twice and no RPG, and you and yours are dead ta me.

DEAD TA ME, YA LISTENING. YA CANNIT DO IT TA ME AGEN.

This. They lost my trust.

I would be crazy to buy the Xbox One, knowing that they'll no doubt re-implement their DRM policies bit-by-bit once the install base for it becomes very big.

Do you honestly think that at some point MS will say "Hey guys, after this update you're gunna have to constantly stay online. Oh and all those used games you've been playing for the last few years, they aren't going to work anymore." They know people don't want this.

It'd be suicide for the Xbox if they were to re-implement the DRM.

- Don't put apps and multimedia stuff behind the Gold paywall.
- Revise the hardware to include at least a 2TF GPU.

Since neither is happening... no dice.

Are those physical copies? Have you often paid attention to how Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft handle prices for their games as digital releases?
Physical disc copies. I was looking forward to buying games like TitanFall and others this way, installing the game to the hdd, and then never worrying about a disc ever again. That seemed awesome to me, but nah, you guys had to screw that all up for reasons I still fail to understand. Its easy to complain about something before you have the chance to try it and see if it works; before you get to see the potential something like that could have with how you buy and play games. Seriously, you guys use GAF, you have to be seeing these new game sales as often as I do.

They already reversed the DRM bullshit. I will buying one in about a year or so because I don't buy new hardware right away.

- Drop Kinect
- Lower the price by $100-150
- Lower the price of XBL and release the paywall on more apps
- Focus more on games instead of the TV bullshit

Do that and I'll get one next year when more games come out. As for now, still going with the decision of PS4/Wii U this generation.

Well they already got my preorder it would be nice if they included a game with it like in Europe. I mean it just seems ridiculous one region is getting extra value.

1. Add WMC to the XBONE.
2. Fix my Microsoft account. I have been unable to log on to xbox.com and cannot purchase content on the marketplace since July when I did a Microsoft account change on my gamer tag. Been "escalated" countless times and still no resolution.

For me, nothing. If a game I'm eagerly anticipating (Say MGS or Persona) is exclusive to the XB1 I'll do what I can to play it (like borrow it from a friend), but the damage is already done. I don't trust them anymore. And that's coming from someone who played his X360 way more than his PS3 since 2008 (a trend that changed in 2013 incidentally)

They can't. Their 1st party games don't interest me and I couldn't care less for the console itself.

They're not getting my money.

They can't win me back. Well frankly they never had me this gen I bought a 360 near the start of the gen it RROD'd and it's been ps3 for me ever since.

I own a good gaming PC and I don't like shooters or football so I don't think they give a shit if they have my heart or not. I know I don't.

By getting a Gears game on their console with amazing online. No balance issues. Gears 3 melee (or remove melee altogether, this is a shooting game). At least 10 good maps. Horde mode. Expanded Overrun. Just greatly polished Gears multiplayer would win me over.

MS also need to show that they will support their console late in the generation.

Stop behaving like carny folk out to work the "marks" (in this case the consumers) out of their cash by feeding us non-stop lines of bullshit.

Stop insulting our intelligence.

Stop treating your customers like the enemy--first assuming we are thieves who need to be watched, and assuming we are easily distracted by shiny shiny things, assuming we are all dudebros, and assuming we don't remember when you tell us one thing and later tell us something else.

Continuing to announce lots of games seems like a winning strategy to me. If incremental hardware differences determined my purchasing for consoles, I would have skipped on PS3 and PS2. I didn't, and I ended up with tons of games I loved.

-Ditch the fee for xbox live
-Release a slim model
-Cut the price by 100
-Stop trying to spin being weaker than ps4

Well this, everything behind a paywall including Netflix, internet and what not is just unbelievable. Like i said in many other threads but i will say it again, what they did since may and even doing a 180 i still don't trust them. And i am still biased that people are still going forth like nothing happend. Trust is big even for such a corporation but how they alienate the gamers in general made me more distant to them and care less. 100 euro is still to mutch.

I don't think they can.

I have way less time now for gaming and I pretty much decided to only buy 1 console this gen. PS4 is already pre-ordered.

Really the only thing that would make me get an X1 is Sony fucking up worse somehow than MS.

So the general consensus here is that people really just want the 360 again with 2013 specs?
Is there anything wrong with that?

For the record: I think that the new kinect has potential. I'm just disappointed that the XBO isn't at powerful as the PS4. Especially considering how big it is.
