If their stock can survive another 2 hours I'm going to pull the trigger on this. From GT 650M to 980ti...I might actually leave my consoles behind.

PC GAF, would something like this be complete overkill if I likely intended to hook it up to a HDTV to use primarily for PCSX2 (specifically the Ar tonelico 2 re-translation since it's not really feasible to mod my old PS2), along with playing PC-only games via Steam Big Picture? Those games wouldn't be nothing too crazy, i.e. stuff like the Ys, Trails in the Sky, etc., nothing crazy demanding as I have my consoles for that.

Not sure if I'd get into VR since 3D and the like kinda makes my eyes hurt before, but I dunno. Was somewhat tempted at this deal since it was already all pre-built (not really into building one myself, due to stress-related issues stemming from an accident a while ago), but if it's really overkill I can look at other stuff.
$400 overkill at least.
You can just order parts and take it to a PC shop if you are worried. Or use a NCIX service.

Pulled the trigger, will be a good gaming/media PC for the living room and having built my last 6 PCs.. I'm OK with not having to do it myself. Don't get me wrong, I love tinkering but there comes a point where my time is more important than slight performance increases.

I was exactly in that same spot less than a month ago when I ordered mine. The last build I made was a Q6600 OCed to 3.2 GHz with a giant heat sink. Almost went with a custom build again, but decided against it since this was a great deal.

Hopefully this lasts a few more days, thinking about pulling the trigger but need to think about it for a while longer before following through.

I'm so torn. I already bought this sysyem, but it looks like Oculus won't be hitting retail for a while. I don't want to wait till July to play VR since I'll be traveling that month. I feel crazy wanting to cancel this and get the cheap asus oculus bundle with the 970 and the i5.

Well boys, I've done it.

Now I just need a monitor. Thanks OP.

Tempted to get this. My PC is from 2010 but still functions OK. It's showing its age for gaming though and would need something better for VR.

I was planning on waiting for Pascal.

Same here, my pc is from 2009 (Q6600, Radeon 4870 and 7850 a couple years later, 8GB DDR2 RAM). My pc is extremely long in the tooth and is pretty much just a plex server now. Was going to build a new pc later this year for VR but this is one hell of deal.

Hmmmmmmmmm

The wait for pascal and the thought that I only need a new GPU and not a full system upgrade is stopping me from pulling the trigger....

Exactly why I haven't jumped on it.

It's sitting in my cart...what do I do? I'm not a PC gamer..I've never had a gaming PC before.

I was you two years ago. Then you'll realize consoles are a waste of time -- this generation, anyway. Today's consoles are just bad PCs. Constant patches, online requirements, no real "plug and play" gaming. On top of that, games are more expensive, pay to play online, worse versions... I loved my old consoles but like I said, consoles took a huge step backward in simplicity this generation. They're far from braindead, plug and play.

edit: Before I incite a rebellion, I'll add JMO.

I really should pull the trigger as it would a fairly cost effective way to go. That power supply and the fact that I don't game on pc as much is holding me back from an instant buy.

But I already own all 3 consoles and play online with friends there. I need more...ugh..

I also own all three. I never use them. I've literally never, ever opened my Xbox One. WHO WANTS TO TRADE all three for this PC?

So I was thinking about getting a PC in the summer.

How much money am I saving with this deal here? I haven't even started looking into this. If I made my own PC (I was considering around 1k budget) would I even come close to this?

Can you share any specifics as to how you setup your pc? My scores are slightly lower than yours and I'm wondering why given its the same HP machine.

Really varies from 10.5 to 10.8. Only thing I've done has been removing any unnecessary software that came bundled with the PC (very little to my surprise) and modify the GPU fan settings using RivaTuner. I set it up so the fan would be a bit more aggressive (fan settings out of the box lean more towards a very quiet system). The GPU throttles its speed if the temperature exceeds 83 degrees.

RivaTuner: https://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner

I played some Xcom 2 earlier today at maxed out settings and it's so smooth.

I definitely have the money. I don't have a decent monitor, it's a shitty Acer 24" 1080P, but I'd probably just hook it up to my TV.

I spent the money to get a 1440p monitor and I loved it, but I would definitely recommend at least gsync because it gives you a lot of control of the performance.

Looking at the internals, it seems very easy to add another SSD/SSHD/HDD since the power cables are already laid out for you. Just have to wait until BF to get that 1TB SSD for $149!

You can also replace the 2 closed slots with vented brackets with Silverstone aeroslots

And add a spot cooler fan from Antec to help push air out from the tiny heatsink

Is this some one-off HP deal? I mean, i never seen other makers go so low. When Pascal 1080Ti comes about, should we expect a revised version at the same low balling prices from HP?

those addons look helpful. How hard are they to install?

How loud is this PC when being pushed?

It's loud by my standard. reference fan is about 50% at 60C. I don't find it troublesome. But if that stuff bothers you then it's not the choice for you.

The vent brackets should be easily install as long as the HP has standard holes. Just pop out the 2 closed ones and slot in the aeroslots and screw on.

The spot cool fan will need a free 3pin fan header on the mother board, or you can get a sata to fan header cable. Also need a standard hole somewhere in the case for you to screw it onto. The stem is flexible and the fan head can be rotated, so aiming it should not be a problem. But it is not tiny (80mm fan but i would remove its back grill), so make sure you get the dimensions correct first.
