I finally got to try the Vive today at a friend's house. The tracking seemed great, there didn't seem to be motion sickness, and it even worked over glasses with minimal smudging (cranked all the way out).

The FOV was low cranked out, and the foam got pretty sweaty, but otherwise it was neat.

I was really bad at the bow and arrow targeting.

Just got done playing Vanishing Realms. That was better than I expected. I actually had to pull myself away from that one because I was dripping sweat (though it's a bit warm here) and done for the day. The teleporting is better than I thought it would be. It didn't really make the game too easy like people were saying. I did notice I was flailing and that didn't really help kill the monsters but when I would swing back and forth in rhythm more I could get more hits in, so that made me not flail.

Can't wait to try more tomorrow. hopefully the foam padding is dry by then :^/

So my headset won't turn on. I was trying to play Space Pirate Trainer but there was some really bad visual issues so I restarted my computer and now the displays in the headset won't turn on. Any ideas?

Is it plugged in through USB 2 or 3? It wouldn't be a bad idea to try and switch between a couple of ports and see if some work better than others.

Otherwise it might just be software. I've had a lot of issues in that regard. Though they usually fix themselves with a restart.

USB 3.0, tried a few things and tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail.

I really hope you submitted for RMA by now. Like a week ago. It's worth a try.

The dude still hasn't even tried a different PC. I don't get why at this point, he still constantly whines about his issues but does little to try to fix them. Hell I would of at least reinstalled my OS by now, as well of tried different rooms and other PC's.

Halp! Just a minute ago everything was running fine and now every game I play stutters when I move my head! Whats going on? restarting steam VR doesn't fix it and I've tried rebooting several times...

How is that 'other' archery game? Longbow in te lab and holopoint seem to be getting all the attention but is the other one good too? Want something less scifi than holopoint

Check the cables plugged in the break-out box and restart the HMD from the Steam VR menu.

Bowslinger to me looks really fun but it has mixed reviews on steam.

thanks for that, went with it anyway, i don't even like paying £3 shipping let alone £57

Yeah, I begrudge the €74 I'm paying. On the other hand it means that having only been shipped from Prague on Friday afternoon, by Saturday morning it was already sitting in Dublin ready to go out for delivery tomorrow. Assuming the driver actually calls for directions to my house in they middle of nowhere, and doesn't just return to the depot without even trying, like they do sometimes.

Tried making the vive''s camera work the other night and ran into problems: after checking all the boxes in options, the headset would only display a gray image. Had to stop all camera related options to get it back to work.
Can anyone advise me on the matter?

You can try plugging it into another USB port in the PC.

Drop the camera rate down to 30 Hz in the Steam VR settings.

This is what my area used to look like:

I have now put the lightboxes up and put some temporary mats down:

And to the side - I have my computer:

I've been playing for awhile this morning - but i do get headaches. I haven't had much luck adjusting the lens settings - moving them back and forth doesn't seem to affect things too much. I wear glasses - but im so tempted to get laser eye surgery still.

Back and forth is just to make space for glasses to fit in. Does nothing for focus.

Sickness from VR is motion sickness is tummy aches. Headache sounds like bad focus.

One, slide around headset on face until straight ahead is clear. The lenses are circles. Your eye is a circle. Looking straight ahead, you want the center of your eye to be at the center of the lenses. You can probably only get the up/down part in the center. Left right just try to get your nose in the middle. Adjust straps.
Two, adjust for IPD. If you knew you IPD you'd set this before one. This will get your left/ right in the center of each lens while looking straight forward.

My Vive is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'm thinking of putting a layer of felt between the lighthouse mounting plates and the wall to reduce vibration. Does that sound like a good idea?

Bowslinger is supposed to be pretty solid mechanically, but it's apparently light on actual content.

Bowslinger has the best feeling of shooting an arch for me. I haven't tried Holopoint yet though. The content is a bit on the light side though. I still have fun with it from time to time. One nice touch is that it has the adjustable camera for mirroring and you can manually put it wherever you want. You can even shoot the camera (so it follows your arrow).

Thanks. I'd like something with more a feel of real archery. Is bowslinger early access with more content planned?

That is a real man pad right there!
Love the gaming chairs!

On the subject of headaches.
I get some weird eye ache for about 10 mins after my session.Especially if I've played for more than an hour non stop.

Had some friends round yesterday, to show of the Vive. All the kids had a go and they all loved it.All had about 10 minute sessions before stopping.

Stuck on Minecraft for their 9 year old boy (who is a massive fan....he was blown away by actually being IN Minecraft!!)..couldn't get him off for about 25 mins. When we got him off to let others have a go...he immediatley said "oww...my eyes hurt". I haven't let my kids go on for more than 15 mins at a time( 7 and 11). So there could be something to the 12 year old recommendation that Sony are quoting for the PSVR.

Not as far as I know. But they did announce this week that a new gamemode comes soon>

Action Mode Update Coming Soon!

We've heard all your feedback and are committed to giving our fans the best experience we can, so we're excited to announce that we've been working on a free upcoming game mode along with various improvements to existing mechanics.

This mode will be focused on a more active action-oriented experience. Standing atop a tower in the clouds, hold off a goblin balloon assault as long as you can while keeping yourself and your tower safe from arrows and bombs. Be prepared to break a sweat!

Which sounds like they will copy the tower defense mode from The Lab.

Anybody want to help me brainstorm?
Every single day I've tried using my Vive before 8pm I have tracking issues.
After 8 its worked 100% of the time flawlessly every single day.
It seems to coincide with the sun going down. I can't think of any reason this would matter in my basement with the window covered.

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

theres something in your house...thats on a daytime nighttime timer
home automation?
lights?
heck wireless speakers?
electric heater?
cell phone blocker,
wifi extender,
ham radio,
blue tooth smart appliances?
Icemaker?
Dehumifier
cordless 5Mhz phone?
off site security cameras?
security system?
something is creating interference if its that absolute a time for it to work and then stop.

Where did you put the table and chairs?

Ive had to move it into the spare bedroom which was being used as a gym.

its definitely worth the effort in clearing a large area for vr - I'm just not sure how long i will keep an area dedicated to it. as once the novelty has wore off - I'm stuck with a blank space which does look quite odd.

How much are those little puzzle piece foam pads? My set up is in an unfinished basement so I've been working on making it good for VR

Maybe try to uncheck Allow reprojection if your GPU is good enough?

Wait, I thought reprojection was for weaker GPU's? I have an R9 390, 32 GB of ram and an i5 6600k. Thing is the other day everything was working fine.

Hmm, I know this probably isn't it but I just looked in my system window on control panel and it's saying I only have 16.0 GB of ram installed. But I installed 2 sticks of 16 GB ram when I built my computer... Does this mean I am only utilizing 16 GB? How do I fix that?

Been playing The Brookhaven Experiment demo, scary stuff, made a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi1cNHlxeG0

Strangely I completed the demo easily on the first run through, on the second go it altered the end of level perks, hence less bullets. But videos just never do VR justice, the scale of objects or the invasive feeling generated by the 3D, it's so much more visceral when you're in there. Either way, final game sounds like its shaping up well and will give a good zombie fix.

Visited a friend last night. He was raving about his brand new google cardboard.

I had such a big smile on my face when I invited him and his wife to come over next weekend :D

Ive had to move it into the spare bedroom which was being used as a gym.

Dat sword tho

Also, you forget to blink sometimes. But the other suggestion about the IPD is probably most accurate.
