I don't understand the dislike towards the Xbox consoles

I have Series X and this year I have completed many games. Even yesterday I finished Arkham Knight. Why the dislike towards Xbox, I don't get it. It has access to so many games, and have the features that enhances the experience - like Quick Resume. Why it's not simply seen as a hardware where you play games?

The console is a fine piece of hardware and there are still, as of now, a ton of great games getting released on it. No real reason to dislike it and what it offers.

I don't think people dislike the consoles anyway.

Be happy with what you own an don't let others impact that.

Xbox has always been a second/third console for me- for whatever exclusives i held value in. That's mostly gone and in my eyes its mostly useless- never really cared for the brand or what their priorities were. Just how it is.
Some hate cause they cant afford. Everyone has a story. Enjoy yours.

Bro, think of it this way- u defending xbox series mentioning u played over 10yo AK game, now show me similar to that game that is series x exclusive, aka reason to buy the console.

From what I gathered over the years, a lot of fans of other consoles love to sling mud at Xbox and they were never shy about it, lol. That being said, the bizarre decisions Microsoft has been making time and time again over the past few years definitely hasn't helped the situation, lol.

But like others have said, it's usually all towards the Xbox brand and not the console itself.

No one dislikes the xbox hardware itself, it's more so that people dislike microsoft as soon as they bought two publishers and tried taking over the industry by driving the competition out of business with those purchases.

Rhetorical question, right? 😅

Well! The most important thing is how you feel and your satisfaction. And yes, fantastic hardware, great catalog, support, etc. This year has been fantastic in that regard.

It's my preferred platform due to the back compat and the controller (besides pc). I think the management moves on the system are bone headed but the console software and user experience is vastly better than the competitors in my opinion. Quick resume is perhaps one of the coolest things this gen.

Because Xbox has a bad reputation and image problem, not to mention a shitty first party lineup for years. The Xbox One drm fiasco.

And they havent been able to turn that perception around.

And PS5 has been selling gangbusters.

The systems itself are probably great.

The hardware is fine, xbox as a company has proven they really aren't in it for the love of video games, it all about the bottomline and gamers....and developer it looks like as well....have had enough

It's a lesser piece of hardware with fewer games, running on the worst UI I've ever seen. Everything in that ecosystem is breaking its neck to nickel and dime you further, and nothing seems to be getting better for users actually playing on Xbox. And now all of the exclusives are gone, with those titles going to other platforms and running better.

But the bigger issue is that Xbox used to be so much better than that. They had an actual positive trajectory, they were trying new things with their platform ranging from ideas like achievements to an honest-to-God initiative to spotlight indies, and there were still good games that were exclusive to the platform that gave the systems some semblance of personality. They've run absolutely everything they could into the ground. If you've been into gaming for a while and used their systems, how is one not going to dislike them after that?

It's because it's American. They're already mad that we Americans have the biggest dicks in the world, they can't let us have the best console too.

I get it though. I'd be pissed if I was a non-American.

Console and games are great. The direction they are taking Xbox hasn't been explained, and from what we do know, sounds like a dumpster fire.

I don't think almost anyone dislikes Xbox hardware. On the contrary, with the exception of the underpowered-to-bundle-kinect Xbox One, the Xbox hardware has been top notch - powerful, and recently beautifully built. Even on the Xbox One generation they eventually got there with Xbox One X.

No, the reason for dislike is Microsoft absolutely fumbling nearly all their great exclusives to mediocrity or oblivion, acquiring and shitting up or shutting up beloved developers, and generally just displaying a contempt to the hobby and art.

most unreliable consoles ive owned
noisiest and most unreliable controllers ive owned (love x360 though)
dashboards suck
basically no exclusives i care about

For me it simply it doesn't have the games I want and some games just straight up skip Xbox like Trails of the Sky 1st Chapter.

I mainly dislike the Series S for fuckin up the memory situation so bad it hamstrung the entire generation of 3rd party games. At least some now are just skipping Xbox instead.

I dont like Sony/MS home consoles in general, PC is an objectively superior and more cost effective platform and nintendo are the only company that provides a unique library and experience to their systems, I dont think the console market should be dominated by multimedia companies where gaming isnt the vast majority of their focus

I hope valve runs both sony and MS out of the market and nintendo keeps doing what they are doing (minus the lawsuits and anti consumer bs)

Why do a thread like this on here? It's just asking for trouble.

I'd say it's more Microsoft fatigue than anything else. The Series X/S is a decent console and whilst it lacks exclusives, I prefer games to be released on console/PC rather than being stuck on one platform. They have done a decent job adding exclusive features to the console like Quick Resume which makes it a preferable platform for some, and there is of course Gamepass. However Xbox's marketing is also a point of contention, they gave neglected to market to the 'gamer' and appeal more to the casual gamer. The Series consoles also feel more of an extension of the One brand, rather than a new system, if you compare the design language and marketing between the original Xbox, to the 360 and to the Xbox One, each has their own distinct identity which the Series lacks. The hardware design is also a victim of Microsoft's obsession with having an inoffensive identity, which Laura Fryer touched on.
Also those stupid dashboard ads reminding you to 'Be Kind' make me fell this was a console designed by a HR team.

Lots of factors, political, commercial, operational, just loads of shit backed by loads of people from all directions are against Microsoft and by extension Xbox right now.

They personally pissed me off by raising GPU prices, enough to quit the system. You're better off not getting too defensive about Xbox on any English speaking platform right now though, unless you're willing to catch heat.

I had a XBSX and the console itself is fantastic. A lot of people have been turned off because of the mixed messaging and the way Microsoft has handled the brand. They have also thrown money around and when comments like "spend Sony out of business" go public, it is a bad look. Myself, the thing that has soured me toward Xbox over the years is the "personalities" that Xbox promotes. That is not to say I have not owned every Xbox console to date, but it does bother me that these tools are out there making excuses and often spreading misinformation.

  • GAF: The shittier PS5 gets, the more they lash out at Xbox. That is actually what happens on here at least. The worst generation in the history of Playstation and it's not even close.
  • Market: they just aren't hitting the sales numbers. It doesn't have the big blockbuster mainstream titles that show off well at Game Awards like Sony, or the best designers in the industry like Nintendo with their stable of IP. They have lots of interesting and weird games that most people tend to overlook or don't give a chance or they're experimental and in genres they don't play.
  • Xbox Fans: Pretty much just upset about the GP price increase, and that's really it. Everything else is great. They put out an insane amount of games this year alone, GP is crushing it on lineup. 1000xRESIST just got added in 3 weeks and Powerwash Simulator. Can't even keep up.

There is absolutely no feature that enhance the experience, stop bullshiting. I have a Series X as well so i know how bleak the platform and the ecosystem were since day one, really nothing to even comment on.

I'll bite.

I loved the original Xbox and 360. The controller was nearly perfect for me, the hardware was more powerful than the competition (early PS3 sucked), and they had a bunch of great exclusives. Ninja Gaiden Black and Halo CE were more than enough for me on the original, and 360 got great exclusives like Gears, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc. early on. I always bought all the consoles, so I got to see what the other ecosystems were like. Over the course of the PS360 generation, I saw Microsoft lose it by focusing on Kinect and not investing in new IPs that would replace Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable as their flagship exclusives. Sony did that work with new IPs like The Last of Us, Horizon Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding (which was originally a PS exclusive), etc.

360 was clearly the beter console in 2005-2007. They forced Sony to overhaul the network and OS of the PS3, which was great for the players. We all benefited from their competition.

I moved to PC in 2011 as my main platform because I wanted the best performance. PlayStation had enough exclusives that I eventually bought a PS4 and then a PS5. Xbox was more expensive, not as powerful, and didn't have the exclusives. I still love their controller and have used it on PC since I switched, but that's not saying much.

I wouldn't say I "dislike" the Xbox brand. I'd say I'm disappointed they couldn't keep up the pace of interesting exclusive games. They didn't focus on building new IP that would keep me hooked and playing their consoles. Instead they decided to spend that money on Game Pass, which I had no interest in. It's more disappointing than anything.

I loved mine until I got into the PC space again.
In saying that, if I didn't have a PC I'd only have the Xbox and a Switch.

Xbox has the games I want, as I usually don't like walking sims.
People harp on about exclusives a lot, and Xbox was great at having them on both their platforms, PC and Xbox.

Yeah they're pushing some to Sony now, but honestly they should both do that after a period of time. At least for some games.

Enjoy your console mate and don't let people discourage you.

I haven't used a Switch 2, but if it has the same UI as the original Switch, then Series consoles have the best UI software bar none across the big three platforms.

I don't hate the machine but I don't see the point.

The only reason I would get a series X or S is strictly to play ninja gaiden black and ninja gaiden 2 OG.

As a modern use device I get more games on a PS5 at a more affordable price, and if I wanted the best Xbox experience now it's on PC with gamepass ultimate.

The machine holds no value without exclusives.

Since 2013 they've struggled to produce good games of any note, and frequent mishandling of their in house developers to the point that 5 year delays, cancellations and buggy messes is a guarantee for an Xbox product. The hardware is great, but they haven't produced a particularly great game in like 12 years.

What's astonishing is that they struggle with the easiest of franchise games. Where is the latest Fable, Elder Scrolls or State of Decay? Halo is also in the toilet, who'd think the Halo killer would be itself? Gears of War? The latest sequel was so bad they've revamped it with a prequel series.

More troublesome is there nonsensical acquisitions of studios and the awful Gamepass which only hurts the developers and customers alike. Especially in the long run.

There's ultimately very little confidence in Xbox as a product and they act in a manner that's detrimental to the industry.

Its not the hardware but the annoying mfs that orbit around the brand. These dudes were going buck wild during the Tflop debate?, real rdna vs fake, Bethesda/Activision buyouts, wait for the tools, etc.

Microsoft would've utterly destroyed the console industry if they had their way from Xbox One onwards, so that's why I dislike them and am happy to see them fail. They also haven't had any notable exclusive games in that time frame either.

Original and 360 were good consoles though, but that was a long time ago now.

It's always been the Halo/Gears machine for me. Plus more powerful hardware for multiplatform games.

I wouldn't play Gears on PlayStation but I guess if Halo went multiplatform, the same would apply as well.

I'm that invested into what Bungie had to offer, and now 343i/Halo Studies has moving forward.

*shrug* I'd just play them on PC now.

If I wanted to play demons souls remake I can only do that on ps5, or something like Wolverine or Saros next year.

Xbox series X is the only generation of Xbox I skipped.

If they just had exclusives to their console for a year or two before coming to PC I would've absolutely got a Xbox, but my Xbox at this point is my PC.
