I just booted my Vita after few years and it instantly felt much better & higher quality system than Switch

You got the good build quality on quite a nice price exchanged, with using proprietary memory card to offset the costs.

Which makes me think the console is shit on overall because of that imo, especially after dealing with easily corrupted mmcs they love to sell to the customers - I had a bad experience with one during my time just before I sold it.

Thank god those adapters exist lol, though only years later when Vita had practically died.

I'm extremely disappointed that Sony didn't take a page out of Nintendo's book, and have a portable solution along with the next-generation PS5 launch. But I'm still hopeful that there will be some sort of next-gen Remote Play with the PS5 like the PS4 and the Vita currently (something I still use more often then not).

I'm right there with ya brah *pats his VITA 1000, next to his VITA 2000*

Tearaway is a mic drop. And that's just the very, very, very tippy top of the VITA iceberg.

Funny to see this thread back. I actually got a Switch Lite, it was a great investment. Sold the normal Switch and all the accessories and stuff. My screen is not perfectly white, but it is still not as yellow as some horrors seen on the internet (had to buy it used to check the screen before buying...). That's the Nintendo Seal of Quality, you always take part in the shitty screen lottery. Also the buttons are not well placed, with the sticks and buttons being vertically aligned. That's the Nintendo Seal of Quality again. A good point however is the fact that the plastic follows the triggers a bit, making it more comfortable to hold.

Switch Lite also has a 720p screen, which is a much better fit for a ton of indy games, as it is an integer multiple of 240p (x3) and 360p (x2), which displays perfectly square "native" pixels (for games such as Curse of the Moon or Iconoclasts, for example). The Vita is not a good fit for these games at all. However, more effort were put in Vita ports to adapt to the handheld screen (making bigger text, using more of the screen), while Switch being also a home console, most of the time text and hud sizes are not optimized for handheld, leading to extremely small text to read on the screen. I am currently playing Brigandine, the game is fantastic, but in handheld mode a lot of screen space is wasted. Bigger text could be displayed. I remember comparing FF X on both Vita and Switch : Vita actually displays a bigger HUD and bigger text than the Switch, despite having a smaller screen.

Overall the Switch Lite is fine as a handheld, the screen is big. I think that for anyone who wants to keep a dedicated portable experience in the future, investing in a Switch Lite is the right thing to do. I am simply avoiding all games that are not really suited for handheld gaming (third and first person action games...).

Vita still gets play time of course, the OLED screen is superior, and the buttons have better placement.

And we don't give a single shit about the WiiU2.... borrriiiiiing!

Didn't want to start a new thread, but wanted to ask that is Metal Gear Solid Collection for PS Vita any good? I remember that it has some frame rate problems?

Mod your vita and put it on max performance. It should be slightly better.

I bet, our first Switch fell apart. The plastic cracked at the card bay, all the corners and the vents....

The switch lite is a bit tougher but still very cheap material and the screen is not very nice, still does the job though.

I have been looking at Vita's to buy and I only see new ones for over 500 euro, have to import from Japan. So expensive, I regret not getting one.

Check your local gamestop

heh

Well vita has a nice dpad atleast, games perform like shit on vita, the switch has a few games that perform ok I guess.

Honestly it's a wash for me, the switch feels like poop in the hands, has barley anything I like and performs like shit .

The vita feels good in the hands but doesn't have any games either and almost everything runs terrible on it.

I pick the 3DS! sure the games run like shit, but it has some fun ones I actually like, has a cool 3D gimmick too that I'm kinda into, and it feels pretty ok in hands, kinda the middle road.

if you're actually interested in the Vita itself, try ebay or Amazon.
If you're just interested in Vita games, ebay a Playstation TV. You can use it to play Vita games.

A lot of hate for the switch on GAF.

Is it on trend?
In my case it's the lack of actual new games, the lazy ports and the overall poor resolution and performance of the games.

I really hope SMT V delivers.

I love my Vita. Wish it sold like the PSP.

PSP3 deservers a shot. Just let it play PS4 and PS5 games, BC for PS vita And PSP store games, have a Micro SD card for memory not there own silly memory and it will be a guaranteed hit

Vita means life.

Kind of sad that it didn't get enough support from Sony, still brilliant system.

Build quality feels like premium item instead of toy(switch) and OS is nice and have more features than switch.

And the OLED screen looks like candy.

Epic piece of hardware, doesnt even feel like it is aged, still modern tech feel.
Thats because Sony makes technology and hardware. Nintendo makes toys.

This the forum which reacted with "OMG SOLD" posts for Vita $249 announcement (which became a flop)

And reacted with "DOA" posts for Switch $299 announcement (which became a huge success)

Why blame the Switch though...

Blame pandemic, those long development time, cheapskate consumer (upper $300 is unsustainable) and Atlus.

Vita isn't really a mystery or "gotcha" scenario, the hardware and price were fantastic for the time, Sony just catastrophically bungled the software side. PS4 and PS5 would crater as well if all they had was Uncharted Golden Abyss, Killzone Mercenary, and Persona 4. Switch though is a bit of an enigma. It was always going to mop up in Japan, no one with an ounce of sense should have predicted otherwise. In the West though, I still don't understand how it didn't (initially) bomb harder than Wii U and 3DS. By all accounts and historical trends, $299 should have been a death sentence for any portable, but especially one fashioned out of (then) 2 year old underclocked surplus chips and a $5 Chinese tablet screen. It's not just software either, Wii U was a bomba of disastrous proportions despite having a very strong line up (ports of which are a HUGE part of Switch's success). I suppose it's the perfect storm of having Wii U's library, Switch's library (particularly a back to back mainline Mario/Zelda), and marketing successfully convincing people it's a console you can take on the go rather than a portable with video out (which is of course what it actually is). Evidently that combination makes it worth the (relative) price premium with the market at large.

My 1st and 2nd Gen doesn't suffer from Stick drift... Even after all these years. Always loved Sony's Portable consoles and still sadden that they haven't released another Handheld since then.

Vita is ruined by the proprietary memory cards since day one with its high price and failure rate. No one would support that kind of system when the word of mouth spreads, even enthusiasts are less than willing to adopt it.

Having a capable portable console is expensive, the manufacturing cost of the Switch itself is around $257. It's not cheap like what uneducated people had thought. It's not $5 Chinese tablet screen. Switch got BOTW, even Vita could survive if it has BOTW.

It's a 6" 720p screen with tolerances of +/-2000 Kelvin and +10-15dE. It's effectively impossible for a major manufacturer to source a worse screen, it's as bottom of the barrel as you can go at the volume Nintendo purchases.

Then try manufacture your own with a $250 budget. Go on. That 720p screen is vital for the price and the battery life btw.

I have no issues with the size or resolution, I'm merely pointing out the screen is cheap and of incredibly low quality relative to any other $300 device. It's the same one you'd find on a $50 Android tablet from Lenovo, ONN (Walmart), Amazon, et.al. You should ask those companies how they did it and drop Nintendo a line, cause they're getting hosed if they're paying $260 to build a Switch.

Those $300 or $50 are phones, a totally different kinds of products, the Switch is pretty incredible already for its price so I'm not gonna start whole Switch vs $300 phone comparison.

Their batteries will melt in 5 mins for starters.

My only wish for Vita was that its games had better performance. I'm not really interested in cross-play with PS3 or ports of HD collections if they run at half the framerate (at best).

I noticed towards the end of its life that Sony was really trying to push Vita as an indie machine, probably because most of those ran just as well as their console versions. THAT was where Vita truly was like magic (Fez comes to mind for just how seamless an experience it was across consoles).
