One last question. I would like to go ahead and put the last two 120mm fans my case can handle. I am using a thermaltake armor case.

What fans are recommended for performance versus cost? I would prefer if I could buy them from Fry's and pricematch. I am willing to replace some of the case fans if their performance is that awful.

Oh sorry, I have the Thermaltake A90.

Personal preference. Lots of gamers prefer mechanical keyboards.

Hehe... I'm new on this mechanical keyboards thing, checking around I found that this guys seem to have a better feel and response, but are more expensive and all I found were wired.

I guess I'll pass for now.

And with that said, it's time to place the order!

Thanks a lot everyone, I'll report back when everything arrives.

Out of curiosity, does the 2600K overclock with more ease than the 2500K, or pretty much the same?

2500k oc's the same or better, 2600k has larger cache and hyperthreading enabled and hyperthreading can create a little more heat (very little but its something).

So for those who had to replace their P67 motherboards, did the replacement motherboard have bad SATA ports?

I just installed mine and the diagnostic LED by the SATA ports is lit and it won't let me boot from my SSD, which has Windows installed on it. Everything other than the motherboard is the same. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I was wondering if anyone else ran into that issue.

This is from browsing one of the largest, longest running, and fully legit sites on the net. No warez, shadiness or any of that nonsense. Not a major deal in and of itself, though who knows what it could have lead to.

You also have occurrences like the following:

Malware stops the music at Spotify.com
https://blog.avast.com/2011/03/28/malware-stops-the-music-at-spotify-com/

If you get re-directed to a website with malicious code just don't download it. Problem solved. I haven't had a threat pop up in years. I still install MSE on everyone elses computers, I still see other people manage to install malware on their systems somehow. Lulz @ how bad all the insecure garbage adobe software is

Infected flash drives are the easiest way to get a "secured" PC fucked up. (That and a lousy anti-virus)

What the hell, I disabled V-Sync and my performance shoots through the roof. Is this is a common thing ? I barely notice any improvement when it is enabled and in return, I get 20 FPS more in game. That's something I never knew about

You need triple buffering enabled for VSync not to cause a performance hit.

Are you certain you got one of the B3 revisions? The ones prior to that had issues with SATA ports (PLL clocking on them was screwed).

Been trying to get my Windows 7 install imaged to my c300 for the last couple hours with no success. Maybe GAF can help. Anyone have some advice or a software suggestion on how to make this work. I do not want to reinstall Windows.

Edit: got it working, finally.

Followed this: http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD

For anyone having the same problem.
With SSD drive, I would suggest people reinstall Windows to enable TRIM and set correct fragmentation (which could cut performance by half).

Hey guys I was wondering :

p8p67-deluxe_2d_x.jpg

I'm on an asus p67 deluxe mb, and right now my gpus are in the dark blue and white slots. However they're getting slightly hotter than I like so I was thinking about running one in the darkblue and one in the black slot config.

Will the cards still be running 8x/8x? Also do you think a 10cm sli-bridge will be long enough?

edit : bummer, it seems like the black slot only runs at 4x. Oh well... :(

no the black one is 4x, edit beaten lol.

anyhow HAF X should be coming in today or tomorrow, so will be my second monitor.
Once my sleeved modulair cables come in and the extra fans for the case i should be done with the pc. And will be posting pics than.
LOOVEE how many things the HAF X has, like the videocard holder or something if you have 2 videocards installed with the option to put a 80mm fan on it ( ordered one ) and the other fan holder next to the videocards for more airflow. LOOOOVE the case

So I don't know what happened since last night, but my PC won't wake from sleep now.

Keyboard/mouse can wake it, but the PC doesn't send a signal to my monitors, and USB doesn't have power. The case is up, fans spinning, but nothing. If I force shut down Win 7 reports there was an error shutting down.

Anyone have any experience with this? There's some hotfix on the MS site, but I didn't install anything in two days that I can remember ><

EDIT: Ah shit, I just tried double clicking a file on the desktop, and it froze the PC for a minute or so... Wonder if it's the SSD :/

I built my P8P67 M-Pro build saturday and mine does the same thing. The keyboard or mouse wakes it up but it doesn't tell the monitor it's awake.

Yea same here, I enables vsync and tripple buffering on my gtx 460 and it went up 20fps and made it so smooth. I wonder why these are not enabled from the get go.

So it's the "same" board as me, I have the full ATX. Did you OC at all?

EDIT- Removed OC, it sleeps and wakes just fine. What the hell Asus. Looked through the web, and it's definitely the boards in combination with the CPUs. Guess it's OC or sleep.

I'd like to make a note for anyone building a new 2500k or 2600k system. A decent aftermarket heatsink should be required in any build.

Currently on my stock cooler I can set my clock speed up to 4.3ghz and run prime95, but after around 50 seconds my temps hit 70c+. Waay too hot. If I go with 3.7ghz my temps will top out at around 69c (still too hot).

I even tried replacing the thermal paste that came with the stock Intel heatsink with Arctic Silver. That maybe got a degree or two.

I've ordered a Cooler Master 212 that should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Hopefully that resolves my temperature issues and lets me see what this system can really do.

Also, I finished Crysis 2 yesterday. Man, that one game made the whole build worth it. So beautiful.

Yeah, those stock Intel coolers are kind of horrifying. They work, but man, you would think they would come up with a better way to secure them.

You will love the Cooler Master 212. It's a fine cooler, but it certainly takes longer than the Intel to install. Heh.

An aftermarket heatsink is definitely recommended if you're going to do any overclocking at all. Just a note though, ~70C shouldn't be a problem for these chips.

I realize it's not the TjMax, but Intel has a TCase of 72C listed for the 2500k. The E6600 (first line of C2D) had a TCase of 60C. It was generally accepted that temps on the E6600 should be kept around 65C or lower for 24/7 use, and the heavier overclockers pushes for 70C. Assuming the difference in between TCase and TjMax is relatively similar for the 2500k, pushing for mid 70s should be okay.

My cores vary a lot in temp. Under load (Prime95), my coolest core is 59C, and my hottest core is 72C.

What? 70C is too high on a stock cooler during prime95?
I get 70C with a noctua dh14 during prime 95 :/, whats going on

No you are good. 70º is fine. Noctua Club FTW.
My friend built his first computer. But his temps were crazy high. So i had to come over and rebuild it for him. He forgot thermal paste. the look i gave him. He is all good now with a cooler master i think.

OK, so if I get things right as they are written in brain_stew thread linked in the OP, if I enable triple buffering along with V-Sync on, I'll get smooth frame rates just as if V-Sync was disabled and triple buffering was off ?

Yeah, I am wondering the same. I noticed the discrepency with RE5 benchmark, which doesn't give you the choice regarding triple buffering.

Note to self : don't ever run Unigine Heaven benchmark with V-Sync on and triple buffering off.

I had problems first doing it. Did you have any other HDD plugged in when you installed windows? Make sure only the SSD is plugged in when you install. Then makes sure all of your other HDD dont have window boot files on them.
I actually have a usb keyboard that will kill my boot. POS 5 dollar thing.

A little over six months after it leaked, it's looking more and more likely that Intel's Z68 will launch in early May. Looked like a bad idea at the time before we knew just how much Intel was going to restrict its chipsets. Now it seems like the best solution for a lot of people.

It would've have been nice if the Smart Response SSD caching (RST) wasn't capped, but it isn't the only available client solution anyway.

I meant if someone else was using this system. Things have happened. You may be discounting various auto-run instances, btw. Have to love the fine folks at Adobe. Also, I try not to expect much from users who may not even know what an OS is, let alone which one they're running.

^after having read some previews for the SSD caching feature, I'd say it's not worth it in the least bit. The performance gain is minimal, and in some places, it actually loses performance due to the caching. The only reason to do it is if you have a 40GB SSD and really don't want to be bothered with installing your things on different drives.

70C is fine. I hit 72-73C on my hottest core with a Venomous X w/ push-pull 800 RPM fans with my 2500k @ 4.6GHz and 1.32V. You also have to take into account that we're running fans at low speeds. I'm not sure what the base Noctua fan speed is on the DH-14, but it's certainly nowhere near the 2500-3000RPM of a lot of cheaper coolers.

Also, the Noctua fan speeds might be getting throttled by the motherboard as well. You could probably run speed fan and find out what speed the fans are spinning at if you wanted to know if they were getting throttled or not.

Either way, it doesn't really matter since your temps are fine.

Ah quite true, its very silent even though the 600T is as far from a "soundproof" case as one can get. And on the other hand, I think I have some voltagetweaking left which in turn will lower the temps.

edit : on the subject of OCing cpus, as mentioned earlier I'm running my OC in offset mode atm. But what's the math behind offset mode? I mean I'm running , I believe, +0.006v offset now. How does that translate to my 1.36v~ during full load and 1v idle?

What is the best video card I can get now for between $150-$200? I'm not an avid gamer but I will like to play occasional games. 60 fps on stuff would be nice but not completely necessary.

GTX 460 1GB (not the SE version) or AMD 6850.

You should be able to download the Intel SSD Toolbox and it will do those optimizations for you.

I'll need to find out how to do them manually this time around since I won't be running an Intel drive anymore.

And on that note, my 240GB Vertex 3 came in this morning! :D

:O

Think I got to the bottom of my mysterious Win 7 ~1 min freeze.

Looked through event logs, and it seems that when the system is freezing, a drive0 is causing the hangup. I looked through device manager, and it seems that the DVD drive is drive0.

It wasn't happening before so not sure why it's happening now. It's on the Intel controller with the SSD and my old HDD, and I have it set to AHCI. Doesn't look like I can change to IDE/ATA just for the SATAII controller.

Not sure what to do with this, should I plug it into the Marvell and run that as IDE mode? Should I just RMA and get a different drive?

Very nice setup Exodu5. Is that a full 1080p TV?

I got a problem with my sound. It keeps randomly cutting out while listening to Daft Punk Alive 2007 flac. Happened two times now. I shut down the receiver and switched it back on and it was fine. What do you guys think?

So I am thinking of getting a 3D vision monitor as my replacement to my current Dell 22 inch I bought 4 years ago. Are they good monitors, or I should I wait for some new ones to roll out? Or should I just keep my plan of buying an IPS display.

Yes it's overclocked. I haven't tired removing the overclock. I'd like sleep but I'll wait until the issue is fixed. Really stupid since the whole reason people are buying the P67 over the over versions is to overclock.
