Upgrading: Yes, i may pick up another graphics card for crossfiring and more memory etc.
Other Questions: Is there a difference between Sata 2-3 Hard Drives?
Is a 550 watt power supply good enough for this current build? What if I add another video card and/or memory?
Is my current motherboard good for upgrading? Could I get away with a cheaper model?
More fans on a computer case the better? Is air flow really all that important?
This will be the first PC i've ever built, so i'd really appreciate any advice you guys may have for me.
Thanks
To overclock these, you don't need to do anything other than to select on option in your mobo's bios (or UEFI) and you can get a nice overclock without doing any work yourself.Dabookerman said:Why is everyone recommending a 2500 as opposed to a 2600?
I probably won't overclock. But I want a system that lasts a good while. I'm not planning on upgrades outside of Ram, HDD and maybe GPU.

AM3 and 1155 are socket types.Snuggler said:I'm not entirely sure what this means.
Wallach said:You'd save a bunch going with an i5-2500k instead of the i7-2600k. Should put you well in budget.
Note - See if there's a Microcenter around you because they have some slick Sandy Bridge CPU & MB deals going on.

You need to match processors with the appropriate sockets.
When you search through newegg for a motherboard, you can select the socket type on the left side.
Yea, that's the mobo a lot of people seem to be getting.Snuggler said:

You might have so grab an HDMI cable if you don't have one. Pretty sure the graphics card won't come with one IIRC.Snuggler said:I'll have to order those as well, but I'll save that for last. Will I need to buy power cables and stuff? I also hope to run it to my monitor through HDMI.
zoku88 said:@Snuggler: Are you planning on overclocking...like a huge bunch?
It seemed as though people were getting pretty good results with the stock cooler with the 2500K
TheKurgan said:Cool thanks, it will be tight since a 6950 (11.3") is a tiny bit longer than a 5870 (11.14") but I will give it a shot to save $50

Am I making any other mistakes? If not, all I have left to do is wait.
...and buy anything else I'll need, of course.

WD Blues are not the best choice for an OS drive. You should consider going with a WD Black or Samsung equivalent. That motherboard you have will not allow you to overclock. Since you are getting a discreet GPU, plus a mid-tower, you may as well pick up a P67 ATX board.Uncledick said:How about this Build? Better than my last one?

Check your book store. College students can get Home Premium (I think) for free, but my college sold Ultimate for $15.Flying_Phoenix said:Are you a college student? Because you can get Windows 7 for free then.
It's Professional at my school and I assume everywhere else since that's what every college I've been to uses. Ultimate is the same thing as Professional, only with Microsoft's stupid anti-virus thing. That is not worth the $15 premium.Billychu said:Check your book store. If you have a valid university email address, Microsoft lets you order Win7 for free. The uni isn't giving it out.-viper- said:US Universities give Windows 7 for free?
I had to buy my copy of Win 7 Pro for £30 in the UK. Still, beats paying £150.
Yeah I purchased it from Microsoft with my university email address. I'm only guessing they give it free to US students.Billychu said:If you have a valid university email address, Microsoft lets you order Win7 for free. The uni isn't giving it out.

My friend put this together. Comes to a little under 900 with MIR... close to buying it. Any suggestions?

500W is enough, the 750W is just there to enable xfire later on as an option.
F4 is fast and I already have storage drives.Jin34 said:Whats the deal with the 320GB HDD? Otherwise everything looks good if you are like me and don't have a Microcenter near you![]()
