So I installed YTdownloader, gave me a bunch of advertisements and tooldbars ect. manually uninstalled everything I could. Im oCD about this kind of stuff, I reformat my computer alot, should I do it again? Just downloaded malware bytes and it detected 6 infections, removed them all. Doing a full scan now ( did a quick scan before ) What should I do? Will these lower my performance

Fuck I am stupid

I have the same issue!

I installed tampermonkey for scripts and then got the Youtube Center script. I don't know if that will solve you problems but it has a ton of features including streaming/downloading the entire clip instead of streaming it in bits like Youtube has done for a bit. It also has a download options among a nice feature set.

You should run Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender on 8.1 and Malwarebytes. Maybe remove some recently installed redundant programs and run a check of your program folders to see you delete things that are old empty folders from unistalled apps or programs you know you didn't even install. I had this happen in the past but not to the point where I lost speed. I deleted a bunch of redundant folders and ran some scans and it fixed most of my issues. I had a hard time noticing some slowdown considering how good my PC is but it was there. You almost have to do some tune up work like on a car and try to spent an hour every few weeks to make sure your PC is running well and not cluttered with stuff you don't want.

I need help.

I have 2 internal hard drives that are identical. One is C, the other E. They are both 500GB.

I bought a 2TB drive to replace my main drive. I had no idea where my licensing stuff/Windows disk was, so I said what the hell and used the Western Digital tool to clone C to the new drive.

My expectation was that I would just swap those out. I cannot figure out how to do this. I figured I could just disconnect the old drive, tell the BIOS to boot with the new drive and everything would be great. But no, If I disconnect any of the drives the PC won't boot.

So I left them all connected and set the new drive as priority #1 for booting. Windows still shows all drives with the old letters assigned. Basically I want the new drive to show up as the C drive and the old C drive to burn in hell at this point. Can anyone help me out?

If you are getting a blank windows screen, basically what is happening is the cloned drive is still trying to assign C to the other drive. You need to go into the new registry of the cloned drive and remove or change the letter assignments.

If nothing is happening at all you have a failed clone or it didn't properly mark the partition as active bootable and you need to clone again or run windows startup repair.

No, I can choose to boot with that drive, and the system will boot fine. I just can't seem to swap those drive letters. And the new drive has an assigned drive letter. I think G. So should I remove the drive letter completely?

You need to do it from the registry on G.

I was trying to find instructions that explain it better but being on my phone isn't helping.

Basically here is what is happening.

You are booting from G

But the registry says that the hardware id for your old C is still C

The registry on G is pointing to and running everything from C.

This is why it doesn't work when you unplug your old C. It matches the hardware id of your new drive as G.

Windows starts loading but then the drive assignment changes midway through boot and it can't complete.

What you need to do is to boot from C but load up the registry on G and reassign the drive letters manually. This is done by loading hives.

I know how to do it when I'm sitting on the computer and am trying to find you a good guide.

This kinda explains it.

Any RAM guru's in the house? I have two easy questions:

1. Can I run just one stick of RAM in a parallel slot? I very foolishly bought one stick of 8GB RAM thinking it was a 2x4GB pack (stupid, stupid, stupid)

2. Will these two types of RAM play nice in the sandbox together? CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB and G.SKILL Ripjaws 2x2GB. Both are DDR3 1600 but it looks like they have different timing so I wasn't sure if that excludes the ability to use both.

Thank you!!!

1. You can run just one stick of ram, but you'll loose dual-channel mode (slight performance lose).
2. You could get it to work, but I don't think it would be worth it. Using 3 sticks means you would still be in single-channel mode and you'd also have to loosen the G.Skill's timings to the Corsair's 10-10-10-27. If you can still return the corsair memory, I would just do that and buy a dual-channel kit. Otherwise, I'd sell the g.skill to buy a matching corsair stick and have dual-channel.

Replacement 760 came. Everything works now! I also changed where the two 4-pin to 6-pin adapter plugs in to (have no idea if this would make a difference, but it reduced daisy-chaining). Damn 8-pin adapter took both my 6-pins so I had to use the 2x4->6-pin adapter as well. Either way, it works.

Tried out Bioshock Infinite with Nvidia Surround...that is pretty badass!

This was something I PM'd to someone recently, and was hoping you guys can help me out for what I'm looking for.

"I was hoping you could help me out since this is the first time I am making my own custom build. I'm trying to make a nice compact build that could support two monitors, have USB2 and USB3 ports, powerful enough to run Star Citizen/CryEngine 3, all within $500. Here are the current parts chosen so far for me:

-AMD FX 4350 Black Edition 4.2GHz Quad-Core Socket AM3+ Boxed Processor
-Antec VSK-3000E MicroATX Case (This is the only ATX case I've seen that looks like it could fit on top of my desk. Any bigger and it would be too bulky.)
-Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Socket AM3+ mATX 760G AMD Motherboard
-ASUS HD7770-2GD5 AMD Radeon HD 7770 2048MB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 Video Card (the one I was comparing with)
-CX Series CX500M 500 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply
-Toshiba 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive DT01ACA100 - Bare Drive
*G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR
-24x Super Multi Internal SATA DVDRW DL Drive - Bare Drive (If you guys can find a Int BluRay drive for the same price, I'll take that.)
*S19B150N 18.5" LED Monitor (I chose this for desk space reasons, and plan on having another Samsung monitor that can tilt since I also do illustrations on a tablet.)

(The * indicates items I have already purchased and aquired.)

I'm not an enthusiast gamer, mind you, so I don't mind making compromises to my settings to play some of the latest games (like AA isn't really that important to me, and I only plan on running a game on one monitor within resolutions of 1366x768 or lower if needed be). I also do livestreaming occassionally.

For the things I'm looking for, I don't know if this list would be the best option or not. Already I am contemplating heavily on the 2GB PowerColor or 1GB Sapphire Technology 7850s simply because of GCN support."

Cheers - thanks celcius! I'll just return the Corsair and get a 2x4GB set (or go balls out and get another 8GB stick, which is probably completely unnecessary).

Do you have $500 left for the remainder of the parts (i.e. not including the monitor RAM you've already bought) or do you have less after purchasing those?

I have less. Excluding the monitor, the RAM was part of the budget, and it already took a chunk out of the funds ($65). So I guess I have around $435-ish left in to cover in terms of cost, but I have at least the 8GB of RAM down.

Note: The store I'm buying from apparently has some special discount if I by the motherboard and processor together as a set. Also, been thinking about getting an 260X or an HD 7850 2GB card instead of the 7770 recomended to me (I talked with the specialist in the store, and they told me apparently the card is the only bottleneck, and that if I could get the 260x instead, I should go for that):

Looks pretty good then if you're purchasing everything from a Microcenter. I'd drop the power supply to this one and if you wanted a better card then you could see if they do the AMD Athlon X4 760K processor? That would then allow you to get something like this for your graphics card? The 260x is pretty much the same as the 7770.

That's a pretty steep price for the graphics card, even after rebate. Dunno if they have any Athlon X4's in-stock, but it doesn't seem like it.

I would:

This is all assuming you're buying everything from Overclockers.

Also, are you not wanting a storage drive as you only have an SSD? I also assume you have Windows too :)

I already had the Sapphire R9-280X on my part list - see edit.

With the two changes made it is now £843.52 with shipping from Overclockers. I have around 2.5TB of storage drives that I can move into the new computer and I already have Windows :)

Yeah, you can get them as low as $135 but not from Microcenter, they don't seem to have much in stock. You could try going for the FX-4150 to see if that gives you budget room, otherwise the 7770 (or 7790) would be your only real choice.

I actually have the 3570k and a 7970 (which is pretty much the same card) and it destroys everything at 1080p. I was playing BF3 with everything on Ultra and no matter how frantic the action got it never once dropped below 60FPS. My 7970 has a similar cooler to that Sapphire one as well and it's whisper quiet. Considering the nearest equivalent Nvidia one is the 770 which is similar in performance but costs £300+ it's a hell of a card.

With this case should I add fans on top. Looks to only come with 2...one in front and back but there is room for ones on top. Should I do that or is what is included ample enough?

What's included with your cases should be more than enough - there's only a need to add fans if you think it's too hot. If you do decide it's a bit too hot for you're liking and you want more fans then Corsair, Fractal or Noctua are usually the one's I'd go for.

Cool thx.couple questions. What would be considered too hot and what software is good for monitoring temps? BTW, are top fans supposed to blow down on components or exhaust?

For me if the temps for your CPU/GPU are 85°C+ then it's hot. I've got two fans in my case and a 3570k overclocked to 4.4GHz and my CPU temp never gets higher than 70°C.
For monitoring temps I tend to use HWMonitor and top fans should be used to exhaust - as hot air rises you want to suck the air out of the top of the case to expel it.

top fans are exhaust

BUT

at the end of the day, fans can go anyway you want them to really. whatever gives you the best temps, gives you the best temps...

of course then theres also positive or negative pressure.....

Sorry, I meant the FX-4130 - my mistake! The 760K is correct though :)

Regarding the 260x, yes it is - if you can get one for not much more then go for it as it's essentially an overclocked 7790. I'd still get the 7850 if possible but the 260x is the next best thing.

Newegg only guarantees your receipt of the Open Box product with the purchase of this item. Any accessories MAY OR MAY NOT be included. Newegg will NOT send you any missing accessories, even if it is required to use all of the item's functions.

could be a return, or a refurb, or maybe one they used in house or to do a unboxing vid with. never know...

That's a good price - you could send them an e-mail and ask about the condition, whether it's a refurb on manufacturer repaired item etc?

Alright, I sent them a question about its condition and whether or not it has been used, along with componenets that come with it. Hopefully I'll get the answers soon...

In the meantime though, is the processor I've choosen so far okay (the one from the Microcenter list)?

Would like some cooling advice.

I have a bitfenix prodigy case, watercooled 3570k and a 7950. One front intake fan (200m bitfenix spectre), and one exhaust fan which is the H60 radiator.

The 7950 takes its air directly from the outside (intake is right next to a mesh window on the case). When gaming, the GPU exhausts quite a lot of warm air into the case (don't know why it doesn't blow it all out the back, but there you go). Because I have the H60 fan set to exhaust, this means that I get warm air pushed over the radiator, so the CPU cooling isn't as good as it could be. I don't overclock beyond 4GHz (my mATX motherboard won't do it anyway) so does it matter?
- Should I switch the radiator to intake so it's positive pressure and let the air naturally out of the roof of the case (there is a mesh panel there but I can't fit another fan due to the bluray drive).
- should I switch them both round so the H60 is intake and the spectre pro is exhaust?

Are you sure you can't fit another fan in the roof? In my Prodigy, I could fit a 120mm fan just fine with a DVD-drive installed.
