amazon got some deals here :
http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=gbsl_ti...85DH572MNSA9VHD&pf_rd_i=20&pf_rd_p=1649092722

there are some good parts but is it worthy to sacrifice some of my desired parts in term of performance/budget for some of these?

for example:

Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB - $65
Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC with Boost 3GB DDR5 - $260
Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz OC 3GB DDR5 -$310
Intel Core i5-3570K - $200
Intel Core i5-3570K + ASUS P8Z77-V PRO - $356
Intel Core i7-4770K - $300
Intel Core i7-4770K + Asus Z87 PRO - $456
Intel 530 Series 240GB 2.5-Inch - $150

worthy or tricky ?

If you have a Microcenter near you, go go go!

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

4770k for $199.99
Wow. I literally put this in my cart at Microcenter 2 nights ago but hadn't bought yet. Fuck yeah.
Well Hell...only available in-store? That sucks it won't let me pay for now and pick up later. Any idea how long this deal goes on for?

Dumb question, but how do you get Staples to price match? I've never done price matching anywhere before. I have one nearby, or can I do online?

As of this morning, I am parting out my PC. It's something I went back and forth on the past few weeks but I just need to get rid of it. Here's what I have if any of you are interested:

Sapphire 3GB 7970 (non GHZ version)
Intel i5-3570K
Corsair H60 cooler
MSI M77 MPower mobo
Samsung RAM 8GB
Seasonic M12II 620w power supply

I built it in April and have cleaned it out once a month since then. I've probably only put ~4 days or so of actual gaming time on it; the rest of the time it's either been idling or off. Still have the boxes for every component too. I'm not sure at all what this stuff is worth.

That's an amazing deal. Going to see if I can get one for the new build.

Do I just need to start a Live chat and tell them about it?

EDIT: ITS WORKING! I feel like I'm stealing this for the price. The agent just had me order the product and send them the order number. Then they adjusted the price and send a an updated order. Mine came out to be $210.

Okay, so I'm wondering if this would be an okay set up. The PC will be in a closed door cubby out of site(it'll be able to breath) but then have an external disc drive that's accessible above along with a usb hub so those are the only visible things in site. The node case doesn't have an internal drive and I don't like having to open and close doors to access a pc so I'm leaning towards that option. Then hopefully whatever board I get has a bios option to boot the computer from a wireless keyboard via usb which would mean the computer would never need to be accessed. Then I there can be an external hdd for movies and such that can be plugged in and moved to a few TBs of storage in the PC along with an SSD that operating system is on.

I called both of the Staples near my home and they don't carry the i7 4770K. Got a price match with live chat instead; comes out to a total of $217.74!

Not sure I would go with a 7970 over an R9 280x at this point. Those prices are tempting though.

That Intel SSD is definitely worth it. 150 beans for 240 GB of storage and Sandforce is a great deal.

As far as the Haswell K processors, I'm not a fan. Intel removed a lot of functionality from them for no reason (vt-d, TSX, vPro, etc). If you're just gaming and don't plan on doing anything techie than its not a big deal.

Fuck me. I already added it to my cart, but when I submitted my order, it said out of stock. My nephew had his laptop stolen so I was trying to help him build a desktop. Goddamnit, I should have placed the order instead of waiting for the chat rep.

You can get the 3570k for $150 if that's an option for you.

Hi All, Looking to upgrade in the next few months.

Right now I have:
i5 2500
gforce 560ti
8gb gskill

prety sure im going:
16 gb gskill (adding 8 is nbd)
AMD 290 when the 3rd party ones are out

My question is about my i5. Will that be a bottleneck with the above upgrade? I havent been keeping up with processors at all...

If you're just gaming don't waste your money adding more RAM.

Is your processor a 2500 or a 2500K?

I don't know about dithering, but it takes a huge dump on color accuracy, which was already iffy to begin with. Everything has a blue tint. Viewing angles might be worse too. Still worth it though.
I am SO tempted to get the Eizo FG2421because it avoids so many pitfalls. Except is has no portrait mode... WHY????

Why would you say that? I could see why for the Sapphire vapor, but that non-vapor Sapphire is looking pretty tempting for $240 after rebate.

R9 280x = rebranded 7970. Benchmarks have shown a slight improvement in performance with the R9.

Overall it isn't a huge difference, just something to consider.

650 Ti is very low end, 760 is an upper mid-range card. It's a rebranded 670.

In terms of tiers

650 Ti
650 Ti Boost
660
660 Ti
670 (so the 760)

If you can afford it the 760 is a top card. 7970 is a better buy at $240 than either though http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Improvements would likely just be due to different clock speeds. That particular card is factory overclocked to 1000Mhz. It should be within a frame or 2 of your average R9 280X. I think the things to consider are the BF4 deal (which is very limited apparently, so far) vs the price and the 3 free game deal that comes with the 7970.

Good point, forgot about that 3 game deal.

No to both.

Get this PSU for less http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= and this RAM using the promo code http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Is the i7 really much of an improvement over the i5 as far as gaming? I really won't be using my computer for anything more than gaming.

At present no.

Sorry I should have been more clear. That PSU and RAM are from my current build. I already own them. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and motherboard.

is the i5-3570k from microcenter for $150 a good deal? I could try to get it price matched at staples.

I am trying to upgrade the sound output of my computer and have a few questions. I am currently using onboard sound so I either want to get a new soundcard or an external DAC. I heard you get a very slight performance increase from using a sound card as opposed to using onboard sound. Will this also apply if you are using an exteranl DAC which is connected through USB? Thank you.

If I'm upgrading my RAM is there anything I need to check for compatibility other than the type (DDR3), the number of pins, and the voltage?

Ok, that's what I thought, I might have to jump on that deal with a price of 240

Class deal. Then grab an ASUS Z77 LK to go with it as the mobo.

Yep. The i7 4770k is out of stock and I'm screwed. That is garbage. They won't backorder and offered up no alternative.

So you missed out. Sucks but don't give them a hard time.

Do you have a microcenter nearby? Best Buy will pricematch too but the microcenter has to be near and have stock.

edit: seems like this person got both. Hit them up. Seems like they got both just for the fuck of it.

My choices would be

  1. Sapphire Toxic - Fastest, really high quality components and relatiavely quiet. Others do produce less noise but the trade off is worth it
  2. Sapphire Vapor-X
  3. ASUS DCU II
  4. MSI
  5. Sapphire Dual X

too bad toxic is nowhere to be found -reminds me of MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition-, so i'll take the second option, VAPOR-X
but wait, there's a V2 model from asus, plz look at it, it may be better than vapor-x, or maybe not:
https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9280XDC2T3GD5V2/
click here if it didn't opened -via google cache-

BTW, THE advertises bout special ethernet for gaming, like:
"killer" in MSI GD45/65 & asrock Fatal1ty Z87 killer/pro
Intel I217V in asus MAXIMUS VI HERO

are they worthy to have as a gamer? considering i'm going for asus Z87-A which has Realtek 8111GR ethernet and my connection is ADSL 4MB

if they're not worthy, i'll take asus Z87-A or any better recommendation -if applied- from these asrocks or gigabyte :

my biggest concern bout 280x was when it's facing gtx770, the difference bout $100-150 so i think 280x gonna deliver a great experience for less cost than gtx770

as for haswell, in general i'm disappointed cause they concentrate on mobile performance and didn't give a great impact in desktop area, but i wont go back to ivy
anyways the other techs you mentioned arent for me

the SSD isn't on my mind, but if i got extra cash i may consider it , tho i might prefer another brand as intel wanst that much, at least the models from 2-3 years ago

I'm pissy, buy the live chat rep was very nice so I couldn't take it out on her. I'm more upset I received no notice. And my dad is going up to Chicago, so I'm placing order Friday for him to pick up. I'm just paranoid now that he'll get there and find out they are somehow out.

FYI: a micro center rep told me the $200 deal will last through the 24th

I didn't get a notice for mine shipping. They were probably overwhelmed.

I think microcenter gives you 3 days to pick up. But, the email i got from them stated that the prices were until the 21st I think. Just a heads up.

That ASUS one there you've linked is the old cooler.

Those motherboard features aren't anything special.

Some advice.

I've got a AMD 7770 2 gig GPU.

I was thinking of upgrading to the R9 270:-

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-327-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1982

Worthwhile upgrade? And if so, is it worth the extra for the 4 gig version?

Get a 7870 GHz instead for less

glad to know the ethernet features isn't making that big difference
so i think i'll stick with Z87-A as long as you didn't point at any models from asrock and gigabyte

if nothing came up, i should be able to put my parts list for the last time before purchasing

thank you for support and long patience :)
