GAF, what's generally the best way to sell a gaming PC?

I built one not too long ago but now I play everything on my Mac.

Is craigslist my best bet?

Its an ASUS p8p67 rev 3, 2500k, 8GB ram and a GTX 560 2gb in a cooler master case with a corsair power supply. I was going to sell it with no HDD. I have a 24" IPS I might include too. What should I realistically expect to get out of it?
Craigslist if you're selling the whole thing.

You'd get better money and maybe able to move things more quickly if you part it out. You do run the risk of being stuck with parts that you don't want anymore though.

Damn. Those PCI-E switches are the #1 feature that I thought sounded helpful as all getout on that board. Glad they're working out. Imagine if those three cards were all one assembly with waterblocks and a bridge. I honestly can't even imagine doing something like that (again) without that sort of feature.

If this was a water setup I might just give up and let it be. Can't imagine the struggle. A lot of features have been helpful. The switches have far and away been number 1. The other that is pretty cool is the OC panel that you can use to change the OC on the fly. I think it only goes up to 42 turbo ratio unless you can change it in the software somewhere. Still pretty cool to do by pressing a button especially when I have been at stock this whole time (smh).

Really hope it's the one GPU that's causing me issues and not something else...

Ye gods, the cheapest I can get a custom VG248QE is 685 Australian dollars. International shipping is fuckin' me. If I bought a local monitor and built it myself, it would cost about the same.

Seriously thinking about just buying an AOC 1080p Gsync panel for 500 and then thinking about how I'm going to set up the consoles some other way.

... maybe there will be better options in the 1080p range next year?

The are incorrectly listed as Socket 1156 currently in the comparison list, are correct in the description.

Ohhhhhhhh YEAH /RocketRaccoon.

Gonna get me a 5960

Can't turn a corner without making sure some kind of animal won't bite and kill you.
Can't order PC parts without paying out the ass.

Sounds like a cause for relocation to me

Just got confirmation the VG248QE only supports DP once modded. I think it is a "limitation" of the G-Sync module.

I'm looking for some recommendations for some wireless + wired headphones.

My situation - Playing MMO's with wife in same room but need to chat online to. Wife uses desktop PC, I use TV PC from couch.

My requirements are:

  1. 2 sets of headphones
  2. 1 wired, 1 wireless
  3. Microphone
  4. Surround sound
  5. Either noise cancelling / loud enough that we can't hear each other in the same room
  6. Less than around £200 ($333) each

I'm doing some looking myself but curious if any one has a similar situation and found a decent solution.

Hey Monitor-GAF!

I currently have a BenQ XL2411T and an LG 29EB73-P. I use the XL as my main monitor and the LG in extended mode. The XL is connected via DVI and the LG with HDMI. Is there any preferred connection for the second monitor? Should I use the second DVI on my Radeon 6950 or DP or is HDMI good for this? Will there be any advantages using either DVI or DP over HDMI?

I have to ask a very naive question : ever since I purchased my motherboard I never updated the BIOS. I have the Gigabyte Z87-UD3H with the default F5 BIOS.

I never ran into stability or performance issues so...Should I still update my BIOS ?

This is the first time I turn to you guys for GPU advice, here is the deal:

I have a 570 and want to upgrade, 1.25 GB of VRAM is slowly not good enough. I really want to upgrade both the raw performance and memory. But I really want my next card to last a long while this generation. Most of the cards are 2GB and it seems like that it will not be enough again in a year or 2. I want to spend 300 bucks at max. Most of the cards are much more expensive, the ones with 3 or more GB of VRAM and all the lesser ones have 2.

So

Should I wait unless the more common models have 3GB or do you see 2GB lasting a few years?

Don't fix what isn't broken :)

Does Radeon R9 290 really require a 750W PSU?
My Corsair HX520W is still rocking in my Haswell build. It's a great and stable PSU but I don't think it'll be enough for a 290 or am I wrong?
What say ye GAF? Do I need a new PSU?

I'm thinking of building my first ever PC as a present to myself for a new job (and an imminent move out to SF). Here's what I'm thinking:

Thoughts on this build? I've never built a PC before in my life so I'm coming at this completely green.

Would a monitor bought in America work in Australia considering power differences?

We use standard Jug Plugs that we also use to connect to PSUs. Obviously a US cable wouldn't work on an Australian outlet, but I'm wondering if an Australian cable would work with a US monitor or if it would make it explode or something.

Depends on the monitor('s power supply)

Hey guys the scrollwheel on my Deathadder (It's about four years old) is starting to mess up, when I scroll up it jutters downwards and such.)

I believe it's due to dirt but this isn't the first time it has happened and I figured I should change mouses.

Any recommendations? I'm tempted to get a mouse mat too but I'm unsure if it's worth it since I game on a pretty flat surface.

I have recently purchased the Zowie FK1, and it is awesome. I highly recommend it, but if you like mouses that are big, I recommend the Steelseries Rival.

It's a little cringy but I had, at one point a Steelseries Rival and I saw no problem with it other than it not being as comfortable for me as the Deathadder, after three years at least.

I'd be up for buying one again though.

My grip is a little strange, it tends to rest in between fingertip and palm grip so a big mouse is nice.

Edit: the Zowie EC1 looks almost identical in shape to the Deathadder, has anyone had experience with it?

When I got my R7 265 a couple of months ago, I overclocked it straight away and got some awesome results, 1075/1500Mhz with no additional power/voltage. I was using the Heaven Benchmark 4.0 to test it and I got a score of

FPS: 43.0
Score: 1082
Min FPS: 21.2
Max FPS: 82.8

However, I decided today that I wanted to put some more power into the thing and see how high I could go with what seems like a very good card. To set a baseline, I thought I'd repeat the benchmark at those previous settings. Here's what I got:

FPS: 24.2
Score: 610
Min FPS: 15.4
Max FPS: 45.8

What's going on? I'm using the exact same Heaven settings, nothing else has changed. Why is it scoring so low? It's even worse than stock.

I have a VG248QE that is light boosted, along with two additional standard 1080P panels. I'm debating getting a G-SYNC module. Does anyone have experience with a montior running G-SYNC while other normal pannels are connected as well? I had issues with running light boost while the basic pannels were also connected, so I'm not sure if G-SYNC will work in this configuration.

Fully remove your videocard drivers and reinstall the latest version and then test again.

Wait until the 880 comes out at the end of September/beginning of October and make your choice then.

Could it be a problem with the Heaven benchmark? I just benchmarked Bioshock Infinite at Ultra and got ~68 FPS with my stable overclock. At stock I'm getting ~60FPS.

I'll try those though, thanks.

Oooohh, did you see the Lian Li "Steam Machine" case?

Isn't the eight core like...$1000?

Yes.

The bigger deal from haswell-e is that a hexa core proc is now available in the $300-$400 range.

I always expected the 8 core to be $1,000. Called it way back when they were first rumored. Made too much sense from Intel's side to not do it.

Hmm... that Lian Li case suddenly stopped looking so great:
The PC-Q19 unfortunately does not support standard ATX power supplies, which means that anyone looking to buy a PC-Q19 should think about buying a new power supply or buying the right one, which is an SFX form factor. Other than that, this computer should allow gamers to be able to build a fairly powerful gaming machine, albeit nothing overly powerful inside of such a small case. Realistically, someone looking to build with this case would be looking at a half-length card like Nvidia’s GTX 750 Ti. However, looking on Newegg, something like Nvidia’s GTX 760 Ti may also squeeze in there according to Newegg’s dimensions of the ASUS card and Lian Li’s own limitation documents.

Well I wanna make sure I have something powerful enough to run DK2 stuff well, but I guess my cutoff point might be around $1500? Also depends on if any nice parts go on sale around Black Friday

Semi-bump, would $1500 be a realistic budget to be able to run the Rift DK2? That's my main goal, since if the PC can run VR then I'm not really worried about it running games regularly

Hey guys I'm trying to put together an HTPC for my home theater set up

This is what I got so far.. am I on the right track? =[

Case: Silverstone Tek GD05B-USB3.0 $105

CPU: AMD A6-6400K $65

MOBO: ASUS B85M-E/CSM LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard $85

RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $80

SDD: Samsung 840 EVO Series 120GB SSD $90

HDD: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB $85

Total so far: ~$500

Do I even need a GPU?
AMD CPU/APU will not work in an Intel mobo.

Use PCpartpicker.com to help pair compatible parts, it's a great resource.
