I'm 21. My hair is thinning and my hairline is receding. I'm stressing out because I always had really nice thick hair. Can this be prevented or do I just accept my fate, get buff and grow a beard?

I know that feel, bro. I'm pretty sure my hairline used to not be a sort of V shape that rides back to the middle of my scalp.

I always thought balding was a good look. Makes you look distinguished.

Full on bald? You are already dad.

I went through this at 14. Embrace it and don't even consider comb over. Found out some girls don't dig bald and some girls really dig bald.

Svae yourself a lot of grief and funny looks (combovers don't fool anyone) and just get a buzz cut.

Speaking from experience here.

Not me, my dad.

Accept your fate, keep your hair short or shaved, and hit the gym. You'll be fine.

I know the feeling. I started losing my hair around that time, too.

I've blamed some of it on stress and worry from OCD, and people always told me that would happen.

Thankfully, it seems to have tapered off. My hair is noticeably thinner in a horseshoe pattern, though, and I fear the day when it will completely go and look ridiculous.

I'm already undateable.

maybe shave it to a 1 or 2 and see how you like it.

Use Nizoral shampoo and get Rogain droplets everyday. That'll help prolong your hair for a while.

Then if you wanna go one step further get a generic brand of Finestride or procepia. That helps even more. But has a small chance of erectile dysfunction but if your in the 1% who gets that side affect you can just stop using and that will go away.

Everything else you read about miracle cure/diet plan is pretty much BS.

"Eh, you'll get used to it."

I went from pretty boy to manly man in the span of just a few years. The transition can be tough but at the end of the day, being a pretty boy isnt hip anymore. And only work out sometimes. The dad bod is so in right now.

I just got to the point that I have to keep my hair really short. I was able to hide it with a bit of a mohawk going on but its too obvious now. If I bic my head I kinda look funny but the stubble works.

I'm balding now too. 29. But I'm confident with my short cut. Growing up I did nothing but long hair styles. Its been difficult and Rogain doesn't seem to be working. But I'll just rock the short cut.

Yeah. Kind of in the same boat. Had thick, curly, full head of hair up until 26. My mom said I was lucky because I had her hair and I'd have a full head of hair my whole life.

But I've noticed the crown is thinning rapidly and the my hair line is going fast. Noticing A LOT of hair coming out in the shower, too.

Really taking a toll on me. Thought I would have a full head of hair my whole life. Seeing it come out so fast is really disheartening.

Is the top noticeably thinner than the sides when you shave it with a #1 guard? If you shave?

I have a friend who started balding in HS. It's been over 10 years and he's still balding, but has decent coverage. That might be you OP. Don't jump the gun and shave it all off if you still have that coverage. I read online that it takes on average 15 - 20 years to settle into your final balding pattern.

Of course if you have an obvious bald spot then it's best to buzz it down with a #1, or no guard.

You're probably going bald, OP. Make sure you stress out about it. Stress is good for regaining hair.

Don't actually stress about it. If it happens, then it happens. Sooner you accept it the quicker you can make bald work for you.

Mine is because my hair is dark. I use a 1 guard and go againsts the grain on the sides and with the grain on top. It looks much better.

Oh I hadn't considered that. Right now I'm trying to grow out a bit for a short fade. I've shaved down to the skin and its okay, but I'm not a big fan of it.

If the fade doesn't work out I'll be trying this, I hadn't considered going with/against the grain.

It's not fun for sure, i've definitely noticed a chain in mine though it still looks fine.. for now.

People suggesting going bald don't seem to realize we don't all look like perfect hollywood actors unfortunately.

It's rough, man. Enjoy what you have while you still have it. I started going bald in HS, my senior year. You can imagine how it feels to be sitting in class and your friend behind you exclaims "Dude, you're going bald!" I let it bother me for for a long time, constantly trying to brush over the spot and tilt my head at a way I thought people wouldn't see the spot on the back of my head.

Nothing felt better when I finally said the hell with it and buzzed it all off and eventually realized after all those years trying to hide it that no one really cared to begin with.

I think people suggest it because it looks better than obviously thinning hair that's basically see through on top. It's the lesser of two evils.

If you're rich ($720/year) you can get Rogaine and other stuff. They stop hair loss, they don't grow it back though.

I'm 22 and also balding, but I'd rather save that kind of money for a transplant or just not give a fuck.

Funny, I actually decided to shave my head for the very first time in my life 2 weeks ago partly because of that and I love it.

Not sure if those numbers are universal or if it's just a Québec thing but I basically got a "#1.5 cut" which, after two weeks, is now looking more like a #2 cut.

Technically you obviously see more skin than with longer hair but you see it evenly so it doesn't look as bad as when you have a ton of hair everywhere except on top of your head and in the back of it.

I wouldn't want to go completely bald/shaved (like with razor and shaving cream) but I love the buzz cut.

Also, I love the practical side of the new haircut. Much better at the gym, hair is dry instantly when you get out of the shower and never have to worry about you hair looking messed up after you remove a cap or headphones.

Btw I'm a 32y old overweight dude.

i started losing my shit around 17, It bugged me for 1 year and then eventually i said fuck that shit. I still got hair but its really thin and slowly but surely falling out, 22 btw. Also if you can grow a beard do that bro, I can't grow a beard, my shit looks really dumb so I just walk around with that grown man baby face :(

See a dermatologist. Its still certainly possible to save your hair.

I'd also start budgeting and saving for future hair transplants just in case.

I think I'm going to try a #2 on the sides and maybe a bit longer on top next hair cut. I would try shaved but my scalp has gotten ever increasingly oily as my hair has moved towards extinction. If anyone had a cure for the problem let me know.

You can't save your hair only slow the process. Minox and fin are the only things that will do this. One is a pain in the ass and one can limp your dick. I use fin(proscar cut in 1/4) personally.

Transplant is expensive and also temporary although for a longer term.

Again..
Wat?

Hair loss can double during autumn and winter, depending on many factors, one of the most important being sun exposure during the summer. And food.

I always noticed my hair getting thinner in October and November, losing tons more hair than normal, had the impression my hairline was receeding all the time and I have been freaking out thinking I was going bald since I was 18.

But I'm almost 40 now and the vast majority of my hair is still in place.
I don't know how bad it is for the OP, but it could be nothing irreversible.
