Can we get some pics of those with diffuse thinning rocking a 1 or 2 hair style or a 3-2 on top with a 2-1 fade on the sides?

I want to give it a go but don't want to come out looking like a failed chia pet.

My hairs kind of fucked up right now but ill take some before and after pictures later this week or something and make a thread

I'm in my early 20's too and my hairline is still fighting the good fight, no recession at all and it's as thick as ever.

You'll take me kicking and screaming Bald&DistinguishedGAF.

Sidenote: On the other hand it takes me a week and a half to grow a five o'clock shadow, probably related but I'll take it if it means no baldness.

I went through the same thing. I shave my head with a razor now but I did try to hide it for a while. The sooner you come to terms with it and find a look that suits you the better. Shaving your head completely may not fit everyone, but having a cut that's tasteful and fits your head is bets. Some people look good with a bit of hair and they can pull it off. I would say go to a barber and see what they can do for you. It's a bit of a hit on the self confidence but you'll get over it. Just don't try to hide it and be confident with your new look.

I've always had a thick head of hair and prefer having it grown out. Only problem is most of the men in my family I share genes with are completely bald. My Dad, his Dad, my Mum's Dad, her brother too, etc.

Even though I've always had a thick head of hair I've always had a prominent widow's peak and I do seem to shed a lot of hair so it's something I've always been kind of paranoid about but I'm told even if you aren't going to go completely bald your hair line will change naturally a bit as you mature during your 20's.

I am the sort of person who gets paranoid about lots of stuff and I've found, the best way to see if you're balding is to simply look at old pictures of yourself, usually on Facebook. Hope you figure it out, dude.

Started going bald after I lost a lot of weight. Something about nutrient deficiency or something. I'm also a really stressed out person. Couple that with the fact that half the men in my family suffer from some kind of MPB, I never stood a chance.

I have a good shaped head though, and the balding isn't in any weird spots.

Are you sure you haven't just developed a mature hairline OP? May not be balding.

Look to see if you have miniaturized hairs at the hairline to be sure, as I had a panic about a year back and turned out it was just a mature hairline. I am 21 as well btw.

Hair loss can double during autumn and winter, depending on many factors, one of the most important being sun exposure during the summer. And food.

I always noticed my hair getting thinner in October and November, losing tons more hair than normal, had the impression my hairline was receeding all the time and I have been freaking out thinking I was going bald since I was 18.

But I'm almost 40 now and the vast majority of my hair is still in place.
I don't know how bad it is for the OP, but it could be nothing irreversible.

There is a lot of hair left behind when I have a bath these days, now that you mention it.
I'll try and remember to check the difference in the Summer"

One day we will have a proper cure for hair loss for people who are already bald and for people who want to prevent themselves from going bald. That stem cell treatment to grow hair for you looks promising in the future.

I don't have MPB, my father is 60 and has good hair, sonewhat thin at the crown but he's 60 and never ever took care of his hair. So I should have been good, except I had an alergic reaction a few years ago and ended up having thin hair around my hairline.

Just see what happens. It might not continue to recede. If it does there's no shame in going bald, but you have to shave it all off, none of that horseshoe shit. And you have to own it.

Just try not to stress about it and keep your hair short. I started balding a bit when I was your age as well, and five years later, after that initial thinning, the balding has all but completely halted. Basically, if I go longer than six weeks without getting a hair cut, it starts to look a bit weird if I keep it unkempt, but otherwise, it looks fine. When I've told people in the past that I'm probably going bald, their first response is always, "Really? I don't see it." It's only when I dip my head down and run my hand through my hair in front of their face that they can see it.

Oh, also, if you style your hair at all, get some pomade. I use this one:

Just a tiny bit of this, and not only will your hair look great, but it'll actually thicken, which helps a ton.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm feeling a little better about this. Will likely go the buzz route.

There are miniature hairs, yes. What does that indicate?

Holy crap! How much does it cost and where do I go to look into getting it done?

I am dead serious right now.

seems to be around 4-8$ per graft in the US. The more grafts are transplanted, the lower the cost per graft. You'd probably require a minimum of 2000-3000 grafts

unless you really have the cash for it I'd consider getting the hair transplantation done somewhere outside the US or Western Europe. Many Europeans go to Eastern Europe and Turkey because of the far less prohibitive costs. At the clinic in Istanbul that I'm looking at right now (I want regrow the hair on my temples), it'd cost me around ‎€1800-2000 to transplant 3000-4000 grafts for example, which is about 1/4 of what I'd have to pay in my own country. The procedure is done in one sitting instead of multiples sessions to keep the price low. I don't know what qualified clinics there are for US citizens outside of the country, but it'd probably still be much cheaper to book a flight to Europe (or Central America or Asia, perhaps) and get the operation done overseas

also keep in mind that not everyone is suitable for a hair transplantation, it depends on the hair loss pattern. You'd have to get checked by a dermatologist first

DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is the main cause of hair loss. DHT can attach to hair follicles, causing them to shed and actually shrink the follicle. The hairs which shed are replaced by finer hairs until eventually you have nothing left.

So basically you are f*cked. Some people lose it at a very slow rate though, so don't give up all hope yet. Look at your male relatives to try and get an idea.

I'm 21. My hair is thinning and my hairline is receding. I'm stressing out because I always had really nice thick hair. Can this be prevented or do I just accept my fate, get buff and grow a beard?

I have/had awesome dark wavy thick hair. Got compliments all the time. Started receding at 23. Fuck that, I thought, and buzzed it since. It looks cool, low maintenance. My advice is to accept it and not care. Also lifting weights + facial hair doesn't hurt, you'll look like a badass with a buzzcut. I can actually grow it back and have it look pretty nice with the right cut and flipping the front up, but fuck it.
