[IGN] Black Myth : Wukong first hands-on preview

Most your hatred towards FROM games has nothing to do with actual gameplay and combat and more to do with you being super graphic whore, everyone in GAF knows and which is why no one take any of your so called "opinion" seriously.
You seem to always be personally offended by anyone that values production value, story, graphics, tech, etc in addition to gameplay.

Spider-Man 2 looks like garbage, and I've done nothing but shit all over its graphics since day 1 - However it's probably still my most anticipated game for the rest of the year because I know the combat will be great and it has solid production value and a story that looks interesting. Would you look at that.

SIFU was my 2022 GOTY over Horizon: Forbidden West and even Ragnarok. Both of those games looked better.

But look my guy, I simply think having good graphics, production value, a good tech+art fusion only enhances things like gameplay and atmosphere.

To me that's common sense. To you it's gibberish.

But you have this trashy elitist attitude where if someone cares about anything other than gameplay in a game they are somehow less of a gamer than you. Get off your high horse. You are not elite.

Take a look at the "graphical fidelity I expect next gen" thread. Damn near 200 pages of people saying the exact shit I do. It's not some weird take. It's a medium defined by technology and bettered by it.

Anyhow,
enough derailing. I dislike souls games because of bad tech, underwhelming visuals graphically, and the biggest sin: poor combat in a combat/gameplay focused game.

As to why I'm looking forward to Black Myth: I'll be honest, number 1 reason is because its based off the lore that inspired Dragon Ball. Art and tech fusion is elite, enemy and boss variety looks every bit as good as ER, combat looks impactful and satisfying. I have my doubts though because yes the random ass Chinese dev does scare me. But they are proving me wrong with each update. I've started to have faith in them.

Carry on

Why does he have a shit mic and why does anyone bother when there's a full 18min no commentary feed already on YouTube and posted.

Still on team vaporware. Why does it look like its a boss rush game now? Why does every idiot call a third person game where you fight bosses a souls-like nowadays?

Kinda irritated by calling it a next-gen "souls-like" when it obviously is copying Nioh more, right down to the stance-switching.

Where are all the people who called this Vaporware?
I called it...

Hopefully it ends up being a good game...

50 minutes of gameplay. I guess we don't need that ONL video anymore?

Although quality isn't the best, so if we can get a 4K video after ONL, that be great.

The combat looks great but I do notice a lack of feedback by the enemies when the player strikes them.

Very happy it's finally confirmed for Xbox. Just had a feeling it wouldn't get it.

When was this confirmed?

Eh when it comes to china/Korea jank I'll wait till actual people are playing it and not game Journos 🤣

These games are almost always all graphics and no design/gameplay

I dunno about China but Korea actually makes games with great graphics AND great gameplay.

The problem is they're most likely plastered with gacha F2P microtransaction MMO bullshit. Look at any kind of monetization in games and you will likely trace their origin back to Korean games.

ONL will have Black Desert too, which if I'm not mistaken used to be MMO and then they changed it into SP focus instead.

Nioh is a "souls-like" game.

Yeah, but when this game shares as much as it seems to in terms of unique specific mechanics, and is closer in theme...

I love FROM's stuff, but it kinda bugs me when nobody else is given credit for innovation in similar titles.

People say this yet every one I've played I just get the sense it's a lesser version of actual good games 🤷‍♂️.

They seem to care most about graphics then hope that their copy paste job for their design will suffice. I get bored of them within a day

It's Crimson Desert, not Black Desert.

The focus changed years ago, but there will still be multiplayer.

Crimson Desert is the single player action game. Black Desert is the MMO.

Yeah, my bad. Crimson Desert.

Is it like SP and MP modes or basically still an online game with a SP focus?

As for Wukong. Yeah, looks great but I truly hope they add hit reactions, they don't react to attacks at all, other than health bar.

From the footage i saw seems to be single player with maybe co-op options. They just call it an open world action adventure game, so not sure.

The problem with Nioh is level design, They really put no effort in it. it's combat is arguably better then souls but level design sucks ass and the side stuff after Nioh really turned me off.

Shame about the video quality.
It's IGN. I'm surprised it's not 720P. Their site runs on hamsters and reviewers on under-the-table paychecks and plagiarism. Surprised it's still up.

These are the same idiots that gave Demon's Souls a lower score when it first came out because "You die too much." Not even kidding.

Looks ok I guess. is it just combat? We have so many of these just combat games
The first demo they showed had you changing into different animals. E.g. you could change into a fly to do stealth.

If that's still in that's pretty cool. It was over 2 years ago though.

Lets see what they deliver. Late 2024 and I expect delays too.
LONG time to go

I'd disagree with that because the level design TN employ is simply based on a different overall approach to how the game generally is intended to be experienced.

Miyazaki's games are all based on the idea that the player is within an interconnected world to be explored and discovered, whereas Nioh and the other related Team Ninja titles just use an old-school level-based approach because its a way of getting the player to the action gameplay with as little fuss as possible.

There's no impetus to explore for the sake of exploring; side-path collectables are purely functional. Find a kodama to increase a buff, or in the case of Wo Long increase your morale level by raising every battle flag. Everything feeds back into the combat and levelling/gear loop, and side content can simply be accessed by picking it from the level-select menus as you unlock it.

You can make a very convincing argument that its less immersive than FROM's approach, but by the same token you have to admit that the way Team Ninja structure things is more flexible and convenient; especially if you just want to dip-in and fight the same boss over for his loot.

Obviously you're free to prefer one approach to the other, but what it boils down to is liking adventure gameplay over action gameplay And on-topic who knows exactly which direction Black Myth is going to lean-in?

variety is the spice of life. Great combat, with great exploring, level design, NPC's and story make for the perfect game imo.

God I hope PC/Console gaming will take off in China ( while we are at it in India too). There is so much untapped potential

It seems like it will be a good action game. I wish the video quality was better though.

While waiting for this game, you can also take a look at Wo Long. It's still included in Game Pass. I can't understand why a fantastic game like Wo Long didn't receive half the hype of this game.

Definitely needs more weapons if they can expand the variety we could have something here I'm looking forward to see how the combat improves upon release

What I really hate about modern gaming is we still have fuck all going on around the players....it feels sterile as hell. Stop pushing pixels and fps and start filling the world.

The gameplay looks much more "Ni'Oh / Wo-Long" than souls (which is a good thing imho).
Surprised this actually seems to manifest into a real game. Usually anything that looks good from developers from that region trends to just vanish into thin air at some point.

That's not how the IGN review scale works, that it starts with 10 and whittles down to the "correct" score. Plus and Minus in the scorebox is just contextual summary info for the reader to understand better whether the game is for them. Sometimes the scorebox wasn't even written by the reviewer; the EIC for Reviews would add or change that text as part of the editorial process.

Not that a review from from 15 years ago is relevant to video quality (editors don't choose video codecs, though you could say that it's all part of the WalMart business model of a mainstream company like this,) but FYI. I don't know why IGN doesn't syndicate at 4Kx60; the internal player tends to use a higher bitrate than what 1080x60YT does, but then you have to watch over there.
