[IGN First] Final Fantasy XV combat gameplay

I feel like they will take the witcher's approach, release an unfinished game that's in a somewhat bad state, and after like 6 months and many patches it will be decent to play.

I hope that i'm wrong tho :o

10 years wasn't enough?

The mentality is right, but not for a game like Final Fantasy XV.

Exactly because of its long development it must have a higher level of polish lest you get the "10 years in the making and still a mess!" comments. The last thing it needs is an AC: Unity situation.

Anyway, the game won't be delayed IMO. Square is heavily marketing the 30th September date and it's really the perfect month for the game.

In the end it doesn't matter if release dates were already marketed. As I said before Uncharted 4 had 3 (!) delays with concrete release dates. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, too. Basically every delayed game once had a known, marketed release date. That alone is not a guarantee that something won't be delayed. If the reputation and brand is on the line, especially in the case of FFXV, a delay could be possible and I feel there could really be one. In the end people always forget about the delays if the game is out and good, see Uncharted 4 - I mean, who even remembers or talks about its delays anymore? Mark my words.

The mentality is right for any project. AAA games development (espesh on the scale of FFXV) is messy business. So many noticeable game releases this gen launch with a problem (or 6) that could have been addressed with a bit more time in the oven.

The game as we see it now hasn't been in development for 10 years, probably 3-4 in its current state.

But a lot of people have this perception that it has been in development those past 10 years and as a result they shouldn't release an unfinished product at this point. Many people here, including myself, are willing to wait a little longer if it means a polished product.

Also this.

Oh I see that you edited out the last part. FF XV won't be delayed IMO and I can see a PS4 slim releasing in Japan before the game comes out in September to push sales.

I would be willing to wait if that means more polish and optimization.

But the release date won't change. It would be terribly embarrassing after the event they had. This game is releasing on September 30th.

Noctis can't use Tempest and Dragon Jump anymore? :(

Noctis can use Tempest in the Platinum Demo, and I'm sure Dragoon Jump is still in the game as an ability for Noctis.

You seem to know whats up. Was that rumor about there never being a team when it was nomura's project true?

That shows they are confident in achieving the technical benchmarks expected of them (and what they have discussed themselves) by that date which is a good sign.

The problem is that confidence hasn't transferred over since Uncovered, with the rough pre-beta footage shown via Gameinformer and also Platinum Demo. Both were vertical slices tho which is why its important the game has a great E3 showing on consoles whilst showing something that is pretty much the final build.

Yeah, for a long time I wasn't, but now I get tired of seeing so many poor game releases and the circus that surrounds them.

Every facet of FFXV is gonna be scrutinized when it releases and the last thing it needs on top of that are added technical issues.

FF has historically gotten that part right. The production values need to remain top notch.

FFXV is gonna be a good time. You heard it here first. Story actually looks interesting too. I have no idea how it's gonna end and I like that.

1080p or dynamic 1080p 30fps with maybe some drops here or there when it gets hectic mark my words they got this.

The good thing is I don't care about 1080p since my TV from 2009 still is 720/766p :D Also it's only 32" and I sit pretty far away, so for me everything looks like it has 16xAA naturally, lol. Even sub-30fps doesn't bother me at all. And I really love my TV's image quality and colors. Bring on the 900p with more stable framerate!

The problem is more that, if after 10 years of making us wait for the game, they release something that feels rushed. Especially if it feels like it only needed 1 or 2 months more work.

Regardless with all the promotion and tertiary titles associated with FFXV, I feel like it's too late to delay it.

Go buy a new TV lol.

Agreed! I'm not really a graphics man nor am I good at noticing frame drops unless its really really bad so IDC either way.

Also yes buy a new TV lol

My only fear is that critics will go extra hard and nitpicky on this game. They will want nothing less than perfection from a title "10 years in development".

I'm betting that lots of them will be harsher on this than most other games in the market, and A LOT of reviews will end with the phrase "so, was the 10 year wait worth it? No, it wasn't."

Hope I'm wrong.

You need a new tv man lol time to upgrade.

I never look at reviews... especially for games I really care about. As long as you like what you're experiencing... that's what matters. I feel like the only guy who loved Drakengard 3 and that game got ripped in reviews. Same for Killer is Dead. I hear people say Titus is horrible but he's my favorite FF star so far.

Naah, I really love it :P Nice, warm image and the "natural AA" actually is a positive side effect. Only downside is small text in most games nowadays. LR's "Magnify Font" option was such a cool little addition that more games should have.

I don't get the "I've waited ten years" mindset. It sounds like people have nothing else to play during the ten years.

Squall is my favorite *shrugs lol
until Noctis unleashes

I wouldn't mind a delay if XV needs it but they won't do it. Tabata once said that the FF teams are only allowed to announce a release date if they're 100% sure that they can reach it. So unless something totally gamebreaking happens, I don't think a delay is even a possibility for them right now.

But first let's wait and see how the game looks at E3. Only ~3 weeks to go.

You really need to ckeck out your auto-correction. An FF game set in ancient Rome would be awesome.

Let's not kid ourselves, FFXV metacritic will only be in the lower-half 80 range, but it will be considered an important and ambitious first step into the "modern era" for FF with a lot of room for improvement.

Higher than 90, GOTY contender, you heard it from here first.

I would love that

I live in Tokyo. Every electronics/game store has a huge XV display advertising the September release. I feel like it would be marketing suicide to go back on that.

Release date isn't changing. We're getting what we're getting and my guess is: a battle system that lacks response but still pretty fun, lots of graphical issues but nowhere near AC:U levels and a subpar to decent story with cringey dialogue and horrendous English voice acting.

Why do you fear that unless you're a S-E employee or stockholder? It should only matter to you what you think of the game.

Sounds about right, yeah.

Not an employee or a stockholder, but I appreciate the effort and passion that Tabata and the team are putting into this.

LE > Unity confirmed

I'm cool with a month or two delay. Even if it doesn't get delayed, thinking about I'm probably not going to play this until December. Just really bad timing for this game. Crazy as it sounds I'm not really in a rush to play this anymore, despite how excited I am.

If this ends up getting a Neo patch and the Neo turns out pretty cool, I may end up playing this on that. Either way, by the time I play this should have a lot of bugs taken out.

I would predict in the 80's metacritic score.

There are going to be some people who will shit on the game no matter what. I have a feeling. And of course, there will be some who love it.

We are past the golden era where Final Fantasy received some of the highest scores on the market. I would gladly like to be proven wrong, though.
