Sucks for all the 1440p TV/monitor owners out there...
your 1440p monitor will probably work fine downscalling the 4k image, I use cheap 1200x600 panels for some electronic projects that take 1080p signals and scale them to the panel without problem
Good monitors will. But some monitors just don't show anything if the signal resolution isn't one of the supported resolutions. Sometimes the hardware falls back to a lower output resolution, too. I wonder if the PS5 drops to 1080p when you connect a 1440p display?your 1440p monitor will probably work fine downscalling the 4k image, I use cheap 1024x600 panels for some electronic projects using raspberry pi that take 1080p signals and scale them to the panel without problem I even tested my PS4 with it in fact they mention the image is 1080p
weird, from 1080p straight to 4K, fuck 2k
Speculation based on observation. I'm sure some will be eager to turn this into the next battle ground... where somehow a never heard of before huge amount of people play consoles on their 1440p monitors with no support for 4K signal LMAO
Dynamic resolution just has nothing to do with your display. The system itself determines the output resolution; dynamic resolution is the internal resolution the game renders the images at, which then get output at the resolution the system is set to.What the fuck is dynamic resolution then if it can't support 1440p? Old BC games straight drop to 1080p from 4k to maintain 60fps?

This news is that PS5 has no ability to output a 1440p signal. Games might render at 1440p but the system can only output that as a 4k signal.
Ps4 pro was not running refresh rates above 60hz....x1x this only benifited a few games with vsnyc off options such as r6 siege where you could get up to 90fps in 1440pWhere were all the 1440p monitor warriors when the PS4 Pro was released? Why is this suddenly a thing now?
Wait, so if you have a 1440p monitor the PS5 is essentially a Series S with multiplatform games? Sony needs to fix this or that's pretty funny for all the fanboys dissing on the S.
By that logic if you only have a 1080p TV a PS5 is essentially a PS3... /facepalm
Nope. Ps3 doesn't play next gen games. Ps3 doesn't have the improved graphics. Graphics do not equal resolution, resolution just helps and it is dependant on screen size. Any way you look at it, this is dumb and Sony should change it. We are enthusiasts, 1440p applies to many gamers on here. All of a sudden we care more about the casuals around here? People defending it cause most have 1080p or 4k. Eh

So why are you comparing Series S to PS5, a system with double the GPU power, more ram, more bus bandwidth, and plays a bunch of exclusive titles not available elsewhere? There's no way all else being equal that Series S can perform as well as PS5. The gap is bigger than between a stock Xbox One and a PS4 Pro.
It ain't happening, outside of shoddy porting.
That's not how it works lol
They could add it in a patch later down the line if there is enough call for it, but its not a feature at launch. So upscale to 4k on console
Downscale to 1440p on monitor and pray it knows what its doing.
Or
Upscale to 4K on console
Downscale to 1080p on console
Upscale to 1440p on monitor and pray it knows what its doing.
Or
Downscale to 1080p on console
Upscale to 1440p on monitor and pray it knows what its doing.
Couldnt they simply add this as a software update....i know 1440p isnt popular for TV, but im pretty sure 1440p144 is the fastest growing resolution for monitors right now.
And yes I game on a monitor both console and PC, hell I even use my Monitor to watch "TV".

PS5 non supporterà la risoluzione 1440p, è ufficiale
Brutte notizie in arrivo per la nuova ammiraglia di Sony.it.ign.com
Translation:
"The arrival of PS5 is getting closer and closer and, of course, there is a lot of new information around the car, good or bad as it is.
In this case, unfortunately, we are forced to report news that will not exactly please many buyers of the new Sony flagship, in particular those in possession of a gaming monitor, perhaps even a nice recent and performing one. According to the latest information, confirmed directly by Sony to our editorial team during the day today, PS5 will not support the native resolution at 1440p, a resolution that is certainly "irrelevant" for most players, but very "dear" to PC gamers.
This news almost comes to dampen the enthusiasm generated by the latest information on the console, including the most recent one relating to full support (complete with integrated cable) for HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz, which we have already talked about extensively in the past few hours. .
In short, not exactly good news for an important slice of the public. What do you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
It's not really as big of a deal as some are making it out to be. How many people are really buying PS5 to play at 1440p?Sonygaf will defend anything from sony
It shouldn't be comparable but if you're playing in 1080p, what's the difference in multiplatform games? Just saying it sucks that people with 1440p monitors have to buy another monitor or a TV to take advantage of the system. I'm getting a
PS5 and I know I'd be pissed if I had pulled the trigger on the monitor I was looking at.
Its not an ideal fit, but the objective reality is that should you find yourself now or in the future playing on a 4K or higher display the benefits will be there.
Get a Series X instead if image quality on a 1440p display is the most important thing for you.
With firmware 1.8 PS3 upscaled DVDs, PS1 and PS2 games to HD resolutions. I'm thinking 1440p support will be patched in to PS5 if it's not currently there. If the PS5 was the fastest console ever or something I almost wouldn't care about this
but PS4 PRO/PS5 is at a sweet spot for 1440p and to not support it at all is dumb
Almost as dumb as having PS3 play all PSX games but only in 480i
