The PS3 was not at all a failure (fourth best-selling home console ever at the time of PS4 release). And PS4 had extreme help from MS after they botched the Xbox One launch.
This generation will be much more competitive. I'm definitely not ready to say PS5 will surpass the 100 million units sold mark yet.

I can totally see that. I had their site open because they had hyperlinks to 5 different retail store placeholder pages. Geoff Keighley got one through Target, so that was another useful tool.

If true, this should surprise noone, PS5 was destined to do huge numbers. They had a great gen with the PS4 and have done nothing to really hurt themselves.
People look at all the exciting news coming from Xbox and think that somehow Sony is suffering but I think there is almost nothing that can be done by Xbox to pull gamers from PS at this point. The best they can hope for is the diehard Sony fans (which there are MILLIONS) will pick up a Series S as a companion console.
The game industry seems to be in awesome shape, which is a great thing for everyone on this forum. We are all gamers at the end of the day.

comparing click thru on a miss managed preorder launch to something like and IPhone launch is just stupid. Why would anyone use ign links to buy an iPhone....
apple will sell more of the next iPhone in an hour after orders start then Sony will sell for the rest of the year maybe an entire year.

no, the article is not about sales at all.
It's just the amount of clicks IGN received when:
a) the iPhone launched
b) it was Black Friday
c) preorders for PS5 has opened before Sony saying they were opened.
Scenario c got much much more clicks than a and b.
I believe that's because the whole preorder of the ps5 was a huge clusterfuck and IGN is a gaming site so people that visit that site care more for ps5 than iPhone or Black Friday.

Both consoles sold out almost instantly - which one sold more will only be determined by which one had more to sell.

Yes it would have. Most of that traffic was from casuals who don't keep up on forums like this all day. The units would have sold out just as quickly and these people would have gone there wondering why nothing was available.
