Phil works in mysterious ways.

On topic, oh good there's things that just straight up list key icons on your map. That's a great help, this game seems like it has a lot of mysteries and shit and my FOMO would kill me or lead me to start using guides down the line.
You can buy in-game adventure books that will mark stuff on the map for you (all notes, all mysteries, all ancient relics, and all medicine bottles IIRC). I'm on the "not easy" adventure level (I forget is there is a puzzle difficulty higher than that) and I found all the mysteries and stuff just by looking around. Hallways that lead off the path or little nooks crammed with stuff are sure to contain something! Some you can only get by actually listening to conversations, but that's really just a few adventure points, nothing major. I've only had to 'cheat' on a couple of puzzles because I misread the cursive script or failed a really obtuse observation test.

In the vatican at least the inability to easily shift through the maps to figure out what's above or below you is my only complaint. I dislike having to hold the map up to walk but for this kinda game I accept the limitation as incentive to explore visually instead of just following a glowing dot.

I don’t understand how, but magically the game just booted up after you posted this. I guess that’s on me for not being a true believer. #philbless

Side note, did anyone else start their game with a save file that already seems started? For some reason my first save slot is already filled, even though this is the first time I’ve launched the game.

For people with dlss/fg issues with the fps, just set all your options to whatever you like, put TAA instead of DLSS and quit the game.

Go back into it and now you can change back to dlss preferred setting and it will kick in with FG if activated or you can leave it to TAA.

Before quitting though, make sure you have TAA set back or else when you boot the game after, dlss and FG will not work.

Running 100-117 capped 4k everything maxed out dlss auto and FG On.

That's with full Path RT also.

Game looks phenomenal and the exploration feels on point.

Ok, I didnt realise this was a comedy, unless I'm finding things funny that I shouldn't. Looks OK on XSX but not great, but it's a locked 60fps. Gameplay is Ok so far. Its pretty shallow. I'm getting no rumble or anything from the controller, which is weird.

Very early days, but this so far seems decent, with a good amount of character & charm. And some very good story telling. For me I already know its definitely not GOTY material. But its good.

Honestly the combat is fantastic. Has that movie vibe with the simpler choreography and over the top sound effects. Counters are fun. Pushing and following with a hook is fun. Every sneak attack with the weapons is unique.

FG does start working but I get stutters out of this galaxy, something is straight up broken.

I just gave this another shot and it's actually running well and utilizing my system now.

Frame Generation was rubberbanding earlier and performance was horrible overall, with very low system utilization, which lead me to believe the game was horribly optimized.

Had to disable Low Latency Mode and V-Sync in Nvidia control panel. I usually keep Low Latency Mode on Ultra and V-Sync On so that frames are automatically capped below my monitor's refresh rate and I'm constantly in G-SYNC. Never had an issue until this game.

Disabling those is netting me over 100 FPS with full Path Tracing enabled. Frame Generation also works, if it's going to be needed, and my GPU is at 99% utilization.

So while all signs may have pointed to the game being horribly optimized last night, it seems it just doesn't work well with Low Latency Mode and/or driver level V-Sync enabled.

Doritos pope will of course give it to his waifu Kojima for Death Stranding 2.

I feel like 2024 was THE year to not miss for a potential GOTY

Kingdom come deliverance 2, Metroid prime 4, Avowed (I still believe damnit!), Monster Hunter wild, GTA 6, Fable, Doom dark ages, Death Stranding 2... It's just so much releases. Might have a chance if GTA 6 is delayed (high chances) and a couple of games don't meet expectations (I think monster hunter will be Dragon's dogma 2 level of disappointment).

But it'll be nominated in many categories at the least, Troy Baker should steal the best VA 100%.

Immersive sims just don't get the hype machine turning. Prey 2017 was seriously overlooked.

It looks good. Like my kind of game.. but I have other stuff to play in backlog and honestly I kinda don't feel much pull towards it but I've played WAY WAY WAY not enough games this year.
This year was almost like a big games break for me.
I will think about it. I need to start playing more games and clear some backlog rather than buying new stuff probably...
Maybe tomorrow. I will sleep on it :p

wait, you could actually see what's happening in that beta?
at the roughly 240p resolution that piece of shit ran at it was honestly hard for me to be sure if the game is even running or if I'm looking at a glitched out screen the whole time.

Last night I got this game to run locked 60fps in 4K with Path Tracing and Supreme settings with DLSS Balanced mode and DLSS frame generation. Looks unbelievable.

I had to turn on V-sync through the NVidia control panel though since the game turns it off when you activate frame gen. And I'm still on an LG OLED E8 so I don't have VRR.

Game Pass Version here with Day 1 Patch. I've tried everything to get frame gen to work properly and it's just broken currently. Disabled forced VSync in control panel, low latency was never turned on, it's not a VRAM issue as I'm only at like 75%. You can't even reenable FG and have it work without having to relaunch the whole game. Sticking to DLSS Quality mode, no FG, for now at 3840x1620 21:9.

Also, Game Pass version doesn't have "Exclusive Fullscreen" anymore since Day 1 Patch. :/
Yeah i noticed that. I did a fresh install with the patch and had to change my dresktop resolution to get 1440p again.

Its normally a DX12 thing to do this, but this is Vulkan which usually has full screen options.

Oh shit that's disappointing... I was waiting for a decent patch but it seems it made it worse(?).
I don't know about worse but the new features they patched in are busted, definitely needed a little more time for that day one patch.

There's a workaround for the DLSS frame gen bug where you go into the menu and switch to TAA and then back and then it works. But you have to do it every time you play.

Ultimately I think the path traced mode isn't really worth the performance hit, and to be honest it doesn't even seem like real path tracing as much as just all RT features set to max. So I am playing on RT medium and that seems fine for now other than some bugs in the tutorial stage.

Did first session, 2.5 hrs.

-Very much feels like Dishonoured 3, in Indi setting with a few changes. Some IM Sim elements I can notice. So far feels slightly lighter on those in comparison. It does offers multiple ways to reach objectives via level design so thats cool.

-Side Quests are hardcore. Did my first one, just gave me hints in journal after I picked up documents. Then had to figure out myself. Zero handholding. Hopefully this keeps up.

So far so good. Feeling good about playing more. Not sure where it will land in comparison to Dishonoured 2. Will see.

I haven’t played much just up to where the title pops up on the screen but so far this is absolutely beautiful. I am seeing significant frame rate dips below 40FPS so will need to do some adjusting on the settings.

im really really not enjoying the combat and the awkward story beats, also why do i have to manually open everything myself? is that supposed to be fun?

The combat isn't the game's strongest suit and not sure what you mean by having to open everything yourself — do you mean the interaction they have with the locked doors and unlocking them? I found that interesting. It doesn't add or take anything away from the game in my opinion.

I'm confused why they even have an option for Frame Generation when it's broken. Try it on GP PC and there's only Window and Borderless Window. Playing on 5800x3D/4060Ti 16GB/64GB RAM and the full PT suite enabled get 1440p/30fps in DLSS 'Perf' mode on lowest settings. You gotta have a beefy card to use it, and even then you're getting screwed by FG not working. Really a shame they aren't supporting FSR3 FG.

I am enjoying it on Series X. But can't help thinking it could look better.
Yeah I found some things look excellent and other bits pretty awful/ropey. Very mixed for me. Locked 60fps though during my time with it.

Yep, I've just dropped it primarily due to the combat.

Haven't used one either and I've unloaded the pistol a few times just to see if it would break. Nada. Wondering if it's used to repair the grip since you can use that to melee enemies.

yea, thats exactly what i meant, i am getting used to it now after playing more but at first i just didnt know why it doesnt just do the animation itself, opening chests, everything is manual. Its just strange.

Same, literally did that 5 minutes ago. Classic Indy stuff there.

And yes, I've also used a repair kit the grand total of 0 times so far. Every area with enemies, they give you so many incidental items in the world to knock them out, there's really no need to repair anything.

Wish you could sell those repair kits for money, I am definitely short of funds and some of these books are pretty expensive.
