Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Series S version is looking good.

Coming here after reading a bunch of people saying they would have liked it better if it wasn't indy(expectations for the character blah blah) and then seeing people here say that it reviewed HIGH because of indy is sort of weirdly telling.

Isn't that a case of people who have played the game versus those who haven't?

No it was people who played it and people who didnt. I am in a defacto reviewer discord and it was interesting that some disliked it because it WAS Indy and didnt want troy, wanted other locations, wanted some characters to return that didnt. It was a lot of discussion about not what the game WAS but what it wasnt.

Happy for indy and machinegames. Cant wait for thr 9th

I'm this close to putting the $35 down.

But glad The Thing Remastered came out today so I have something else I wanted to get anyway to keep me occupied till the 8th lol.

Btw, if you're in the US, the game unlocks around 7PM ~EST on the night of the 8th.

I imagine much of the animation was mocapped or whatever so why does it look so bad here? All that to recreate the scene & botch it.

Also how silly is it to have that standard fps hands posing when carrying the item and running for your life instead of match the movie...

Looks good to me

Can you play it shoot bang style. Or are you forced to stealth

I am only at the first real mission and don't have a gun yet... but I would have been able to just punch them all to death if I wanted to. you can parry and block and use items like brooms, shovels, bottles... fucking marble busts (they take stamina to move tho) and either smack people with them or throw them at them if you want.

on Hard it seems a good hit with a thrown hammer followed by a punch at the startled enemy will kill them pretty quickly. I assume later missions might be harder to do rambo style tho lol

I missed with those damned marble statues way way too often. Indys insane upper body strength failed me.

I only tried it once lol, threw it down the stairs at someone :pie_roffles: but I carried it with me a few rooms because I wanted to see if it's an achievement lol

haha I never ever track achievements but I did get one, I haven't heard people talking about thats funny.
The statues throw exactly as statues should. Not at all lol.

yeah when I noticed that I could only carry them like 10m at a time, I figured it would be hard to actually use them in combat.

So relieved to see that the hint system is an extra step you have to do to get it (with camera) rather than an NPC near you always telling you what to do !

God, more games have to do this

The great reviews have surprised me in a good way.

If there’s nothing blatantly bat-shit that’s being glossed over, this will be the first single player game from either Xbox or PS that I play in the past couple of years. If it runs on Deck that is.

my bet is 720p Lowest settings across the board at 30fps should be doable.
since I have the Xbox/Windows Store version I sadly can't really test it myself... but given how it runs on my desktop PC, it seems to be pretty light compared to many current AAA games.

...I mean it's iD Tech after all...

EDIT: apparently it's broken through Proton at the moment 😬 😬 😬

lmao graphics presets: low, medium, high, ultra, giga, hyper

I can only imagine gamers with <12GB VRAM GPU trying to run this. This game needs 16GB VRAM to play on hyper and get a stable 60fps+. What was Nvidia thinking when they gave the RTX 3080 just 10GB VRAM lol, thankfully I did wait and paid a bit higher and got a 4080, this GPU kinda hits the spot, runs everything so far well.

btw if you have 8GBVRAM, don't go above medium

(note: this is for native, 1440p)

To be fair quite a few people on Steam are saying the requirements are overblown (as often is the case), and that the game runs great.
So you never know i suppose.

yeah, I posted on the requirements thread how it is running really well (I'll quote it below)
the TLDR is, at the high preset at 1440p DLSS Quality mode, I get between 75 and 110 fps on a 3060ti.
DLSS Quality Mode also looks better than native (was to be expected since the same was true in Doom Eternal, so iD Tech's TAA is just worse than DLSS)

so anyone still thinking the game needs monster Specs to run well,

here I tested it real quick on my PC,
RTX 3060ti, Ryzen 5600X, 1440p, DLSS Quality Mode (looks better than native TAA), High preset (no adjustments from the preset)
basically the most generic PC specs you can have, and you get 60+fps easily (FPS counter on the top right)

as always, Screen Space Reflections look like complete ass of course (you can turn them off by setting reflections to low, and soon with the update you can hopefully replace them with RT reflections as well)
so honestly, setting reflections to low to remove them is not only a net positive for the look of the game, but also will increase performance in parts by like 5%
and also keep in mind that I am recording this, which also will reduce performance by a handful of percent.

edit:
just to showcase DLSS.
this is me strafing to the left. this spot has some distant trees and some metal bars in a window, which means distant and near parallaxing and disocclusion behind the bars and behind Indy's arm.

subjectively in motion the only real difference I see is that DLSS has slightly less shimmering around objects in motion. other than that the only difference you'll notice is how your performance jumps by 20 fps lol.

but in this example, look closely between the metal bars in that window. you will see that native TAA has way more obvious ghosting of these metal bars inbetween them, while DLSS still has some ghosting too but way less noticeable.

also the leaves on the top of the screen have noticeable ghosting with native TAA, while DLSS has essentially none.

so once again DLSS Quality mode provides a 20% performance boost while improving image quality at the same time. literally free performance.

Ooh nice. I recently upgraded to a 3070 and was thinking i might have to play at 1080p to get 60fps with this game.

nah, even native 1440p works on a 3060ti at roughly 60fps. with VRR I bet you wouldn't notice small drops below it either.
and I bet the High Preset also has some settings that are unnecessary and Digital Foundry's video will probably come with optimised settings that make it run even better than just slapping the high preset on it.

I bet with a 3070 you could get 4K DLSS performance mode to run at 60+fps while getting a very convincingly 4K-like image out of it. since DLSS clearly looks better even when upscaled from ~900p, at 1080p native upscaled to 4K it will probably look fantastic.

In recent games RTX 3080 12 GB is all most 20% to 30% more faster than RTX 4070 in 4K same as RTX 2080 Ti is beating RX 6800 on 4K in recent titles.

In my point of view, specific optimization is over in new Engines and it is over a general optimization that is why you see that both Nvidia and AMD news driver are not providing the level
of performance increase they use to provide like old times (up to 20% etc) and now it is more like bug solving drivers. Moreover, this is one of the reason people do not see major increase in
PS5 Pro performance which was promised by Sony. It is the engine, developer priorities and flexibility now a days.

Happy to have been proven wrong RE 1st person and glad to see the reviews are good!

Looking forward to checking it out when it's released for Gamepass peasants like myself.

This is going to be an interesting test on PS5 sales wise, since it seems like a game that would fit really well with the audience. I expect this game will sell a lot of units on PS5.
