There's a button to go to the last page at the bottom

Cool. Thanks. I didn't notice that the arrow does that.

Wish Nihilumbra would get widescreen support.

Anyway, another noob question. I'm having trouble logging in on my Android tablet. Might be a Java script issue? But I find it really hard to navigate these forums on my iPhone 5S so I'd like to use my tablet.

Another thing in regards to mobile viewing is I wish there was a "last page" button at the top. Annoying to have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the first thread page then click the last button.

Yeah, minor gripes but want to get used to the navigation around here.

Just bookmark the last page of the thread (add page=9999 or similar to the URL)

Alternatively, when viewing your subscribed threads, don't tap the name of the thread, instead tap the right pointing arrow ">" to go directly to the last page (or last post, if you have it set up that way in the preferences)

Yep, it's totally tied to your account and it doesn't matter on what device you originally purchased the IAP, and no iTunes usage necessary. Whenever you log with your account on any other iPad or IPhone you will be able to restore that IAP without having to purchase it again. It won't get tied to your dad's account in any way.

Sweet! Guess I'm buying an iTunes gift card tomorrow since I have $100 in Best Buy gift card I need to burn through :lol Feeling pretty good about this. I had been waiting for the 3DX XL to go on sale again for $150 so I could finally play Dual Destines. Now I don't have to buy it :D

Actually, it's the entire blue range (that isn't occupied by another function), not just the arrow. Same with the bar at the bottom too; tapping it takes you to the top of the current page.

Is there a GAF thread for iPad model buying recommendations? Search is giving me nothing and I don't want to make a thread if there is a megathread somewhere. :/

In any case, wait a month.
9 September Apple will announce new products (iPhone, but possibly iPad refresh too).
You will want the new model or the actual one, which will be cheaper after that date.

If you are debating between normal and mini, expecially for gaming...there is no place better than this thread to ask :)

OK back from Gamescom, what games did I miss this past week that should be in the OP?

List please :p (I'm in lazy post-travelling mode)

Will endeavor to add stuff today/tomorrow.

Personally I can't play anything else but Star Realms.

It's soooooooo good.
Best deckbuilder game so far.

Can't wait for a new iPad, I think any more new releases, this iPad 3 will start crying. I'd rather have a 2 at this point, the retina screen with the obsolete processor is just too much. Now the decision comes down to big iPad or mini...

I tried it out yesterday and it's definitely fun. If it had the polish of Ascension it would be awesome and playing on iPhone is a little hard to see everything but definitely good. I LOVE that it has a SP campaign to sort of get into it without being pushed straight into MP, or not even needing to play MP at all for that matter.

Any good god games on iOS? Godus makes me long for Black & White.

Same... very few options though unfortunately.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for portrait-mode games which focus on story? Since I've got to travel for an hour on a crowded train to work each day, I can only do portrait mode. These are the games I've bought so far:

All the Fighting Fantasies
Ace Attorney Trilogy
Zero Escape 999
Device 6
Dragon Quest IV
Dragon Quest VIII
80 Days
Banshee's Last Cry
Nameless The Hackers

I would say Ghost Trick or Ace Attorney 5, but neither support portrait mode. Why is portrait a must? I don't understand why being on a train would impose such a limit.

Yesterday I was bored out of my mind (because of some hard back pain I couldn't move) and decided to give Kingdom Rush Frontiers a go... and what was going to be a dull day ended up going up so entertained that I did finish the campaign and all the side campaigns and defeated everything on the map... took me like 11 hours. I decided to get the Dragon instead of the normal heroes (Kronan is the best free on) and mastered it then. And then I downloaded the first one in like 5 hours with the 4th hero. A lot easier than the sequel. I really loved Frontiers. Its so balanced and the turrets are.. effective and awesome. Plus the reinforcements and the meteor shower are very useful, and the tech tree can be re-organized as you wish. The key thing for me was the variety, never two maps feel the same. The whole thing is so polished and a labor of love and care. Looking forward to the new one. Probably the best tower defense I have ever player.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
So, yeah, Spell Fall.

Pretty basic game, but it's fun.. but the F2P sucks in it... insane prices on items for the gold you get... having slots cost so much is just BS... also anytime the enemy get's a free attack at the start is total 100% bullshit when health is your "timer"... especially since by the 4th map monsters hit like a ton of bricks... like 4 hits and you're dead. So starting down one hit.. and if it's certain monsters with a fucked up tile set... it's just so damn cheap.

I want to like this.. but they are like 3 steps to far into the darkside of F2P.

For 8 euro it's a very competent Zelda clone. I had more fun with this than the Zelda incarnation on Nintendo DS, personally. It's well done but copies so blatantly from the Nintendo franchise it makes Gameloft games look almost subtle.

That. That's what makes me not want to buy it right there. Intellectual piracy is the absolute worst. I won't buy Micromon either.

Deep Loot is really fun when I realized that air boosters don't cost that much.

Does the game semi-freeze for you? I can end a dive and use items, even tap places and have the move path show up but my little dude doesn't move at all and neither do fish.

Sorry, but intellectual piracy does not exist. You can't copyright gameplay mechanics.

You probably know this already, and are making a moral stand. But think about it for a second. Games have evolved because designers kept borrowing/iterating on past ideas. Would you prefer to live in a world where the only first-person shooters came out from ID Software?

Not everyone has played Zelda, so the criticism of being too much like Zelda doesn't apply for those people. I never have so Oceanhorn is just a great polished action adventure game for me.

Micromon is really similar to Pokemon, but most mon hunting games are similar and I think mon hunting games existed before Pokemon. Correct me if I am wrong.

At the very least the designs are original and not pure clones. It has it's own elemental system. It doesn't use TMs or any equivalent.

When I first started playing the game, this happened to me semi-regularly. Having played now for many, many hours, I can't recall the last time this happened. Try a full restart of your phone/iPad?

iOS GAF, I need your help! I recently started a job with an hour long train commute! Naturally, my iPad air has become my bestest friend and I use it non stop for reading and catching up on TV, however, I need some advice with games:

I'm looking for something pretty specific, it may not even exist. Here's a description of my perfect game, essentially deep turn based strategy:

  • t's got strategic depth like Paradox games, Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader Kings 2.
  • It's turn based, so I can close the iPad, or close my eyes.
  • There's no reflex or twitch based action; not interested in real time strategy on ipad.
  • It does not require a live internet connection; otherwise I would just play hearthstone.
  • It is not a card game, I love Hearthstone and don't have the mental capacity to take on another card game.
  • Price is not a factor, I'll pay up for a game that will keep me engaged for months or more.

XCOM would be my perfect commute game, HOWEVER, I'm spoiled by the Enemy Within expansion pack on PC and the vanilla version now seems very dry and simple in comparison. I have it and play it, but get bored pretty quickly with it these days.

So, I thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Really don't think there's anything with EU or CK depth on IOS, except for maybe King of Dragon Pass

Hoplite is my favorite roguelike on IOS, turn based strategic gameplay. Not the amount of depth you're looking for, but it is methodical, tactial, and challenging

Perhaps these games might interest you

I think you'd really like the Ravenmark games -- there's a free online-only multiplayer version (Mercenaries, I think?) and then there's a standalone single-player title with the subtitle Scourge of Estellion. I really enjoyed it but it had too much complexity for me at times -- it's more of an SRPG than a straight-up strategy game but it places a huge emphasis on unit positioning, wheeling/turning for position, and recurring unit orders versus individual unit actions. Also a massive, massive lore component, though I don't know if it's especially necessary to understand in order to play it.

It looks like Advance Wars/Final Fantasy Tactics but it plays much more like what little I've delved into in terms of wargaming. You can check out the free multiplayer version to see if you like it and go from there, but just be aware I think it requires an online connection (the single-player version shouldn't, but I'm not certain).

The closest I can think of to EU or CK would be Autumn Dynasty Warlords. It is a 4X game, however the battles are done in real-time (think Total War).

Starbase Orion is a sci-fi 4X game, and is completely turn-based. It is very well supported, and the developer has added tons of features over the years. It has a good tutorial, you can play against the AI or other players, but there's no 'story' campaign.

Panzer Corps, a war game, has an insanely long campaign. The game length is measured in years, not hours, if you buy all the expansions.

If you like XCOM, check out Breach & Clear and Frozen Synapse. B&C has singleplayer missions, while FS has a full campaign with story.

Finally, check out King of Dragon Pass for something a little different. It is an extremely deep strategy game, but the presentation is unlike anything you've seen before. It is presented as a choose-your-own-adventure story, with hand-drawn illustrations and endless choices. I personally think this is a must-have for any iOS device owner

If anyone cares, today sega has gave Amy, Blaze and Knuckles for free on Sonic Jump Fever.

Don't know if this means that the game has done well or was a massive bomba, I was burned out with it last week and I need like 2 or 3 months of gameplay to get blaze and sonic, is cool to see that I don't had to grind them forever

I really enjoyed A Dark Room, but after playing this for about 10 minutes I don't know if I can continue. How limited you are in moving around at the start combined with permadeath makes this seem like it'll be extremely tedious.

Agreed, and it's a bummer. I just cannot do this.

Unfortunately I have to agree. The Dark Room was such a great experience for me, partly for its iceberg-esque nature, slowly revealing more depth and growing in scope as you played. The aura of mystery proved to be an enticing hook

In The Ensign, that's just not there. Add the perms death and extreme (unfair?) difficulty and you get a game that just can't live up to its predecessor IMO

Shit, I bought Breach & Clear ages ago and I've barely touched it. Must redownload.

I wanted to like it, but it's actually pretty dull. The strategy is limited (breach, watch guys auto attack from cover until someone dies), the game-play can feel janky even on an Air (menus seem laggy at times) and worst of all: the UK, Polish and German teams all have US accents and they seem unlikely to change this :S
