But that’s not all (I’ve always wanted to say that)! Many of you may be wondering what the heck happened to the iOS version of Legend of Grimrock!? And rightly so. The truth is we really, really would have liked to work on it, but there never has been enough time to truly make it happen. We care so much about the quality of our games that hiring some random dude who we do not know personally to do the porting work just did not seem right to us (no offence to “the random internetz folks!”). But now things have changed. A friend of us and a coder extraordinaire, Juha Pinola has now been working on the iOS version of Legend of Grimrock 1 for some time and the game is shaping up really well. We do not know the release date just yet other than “when it’s done” but we’ll let you know when we know, ok? The game isn’t just a direct port from the PC version of Legend of Grimrock. We have always felt that the game wouldn’t work on touch screens straight out of the box but needed a few custom mechanics to get the benefits of the touch interface.

How good is Battleheart Legacy? I enjoyed the previous Battleheart games but this one looks pretty far advanced for game mechanics comparatively.

Played it for a bit. I don't like that you lose all your deployed troops, even the survivors. Maybe that's how it always is in games like this? I'm pretty new to iOS gaming.

I never played Clash of Clans (which is apparenty what they are going for) but maybe? I agree it's a little off-putting at first.

Worst of all so far has been the unit AI. I just dropped three speeder bikes on one side of a Tusken Raider camp only for them to fly through the hole I blew in the wall for them, past three different turrets, all the while taking fire from each) only to stop and begin firing on a random piece of wall on the other side of the base from where they were dropped. WTH.

I was just going to ask about The Firm. Does the game expand on the stuff I've see in the trailers? Swipe left or right, depending on if it's green/red, up/down. I've seen several Papers Please comparisons, but I'm not really seeing the connection

It's like Papers, Please in that they both have papers. That's the most facile comparison possible because the games are totally different.

Papers Please is about balancing the obligations of duty against your love of your family, and gaining insight into what it's like to live in a totalitarian state.

The Firm is about being able to distinguish left from right.

It's fun tho

It's outstanding. Mechanics take a bit to get used to and are a bit different than the original (more tapping to move and target as opposed to line drawing).

It's much deeper in terms of skills and the ability to customize your character, even mixing and matching classes.

I'd go as far as to say it's one of the best action RPGs on iOS. Highly recommended.

How is Beat Sneak Bandit?
Excellent. I was hesitant to get it but glad I did. A polished blend of stealth, puzzle, and rhythm genres. Lovely art style, challenging levels, the kind of polish and finely crafted experience you'd expect from Simogo

Also excellent. I never played the other Battleheart games, but very impressed by Legacy. Charming graphics, a huge amount of freedom and depth in how you develop your character, the best tap to move/attack controls IMO. Want to be a teleporting archer or melee-heavy mage who can call down meteors from above? All those options are available

Dude's not wrong :(

It remains to be seen of my love of motor racing can overcome my ineptitude at management sims. No doubt the game is slick as fuck but I'm one step away from receiving the 'well, I guess you guys turned up today and that was nice' award.

guys, is the Ipad Mini better than the Ipad third gen? (new ipad) for gaming?

I want an ipad mini for being a cheap option, and having the lighting port to hook up a mfi controller, plus I think that is a retina

Motorsport manager is a lot of fun. The made up social media bits are fantastic.

Was just in a wet race with both my drivers comfortably first and second. Two laps to go and my first place driver retires :( so close to the end she still earned points.

Basic iPad mini is basically an iPad 2 - so it is the slowest iPad you can get. The retina mini is basically an iPad Air only smaller - so it is the fastest iPad you can get. The difference in cost between the two doesn't justify the difference in performance IMO.

Either save up and stretch to the retina mini, or hold off for the inevitable new models in a couple of months. That might bring retina to the basic mini, but at a minimum will mean refurbs of the current retina on the apple store for a while so you can save money.

Beaten, but there is a mini and a mini Retina, so you would specifically need to look up the Retina model were you to get one now. There -is- a performance difference between the Air and the mini Retina in the Air's favor, but it isn't a huge difference.

But I'm not sure I would recommend buying now, with new hardware announcements sure to come in a month or two.

I'm loving the typos on the fake tweets.

One of my drivers might in fact be a doner kebab. He certainly ain't a racing driver, that's for sure. I have a young 'un that I'm hoping to replace him with before long because if that fuckwit limps home in last once more, I'm taking him 'round the back and shooting him.

I named my team owner Adam Scott Aukerman, and the team Achtung Baby! Racing, so I'm left with no end of giggles every time I'm reminded of it - no matter how badly my results were in the last race (or how much time I just lost after the game crashed).

I see guys, and what about an iphone 5s?

I wonder too.
I'm hoping for it since I completed FFT.

XCOM and record of the agarest war are probably the next two most similar... with XCOM being less story driven and having better gameplay (than agarest), and agarest having a lot more story and worse gameplay (than either).

Performance wise about the same as an iPad Air. Same basic chips.mtheyll be a bit slower because it is a phone so the battery is smaller but that is balanced by the screen resolution being smaller.

Again though, iphone 6 expected in September so recommended to wait if you can. Either because you might want an iPhone 6, or because it'll mean iPhone 5s prices dropping

Clash of Clans does this (and I assume Boom Beach too).

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
The Ensign: Endish game question below:

how the fuck do you get through the asteroid field?!?!? Am I missing something?

BTW, to those who've tried it.. you are supposed to die.

Potential sleeper hit free game alert:

One Spear Arena - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id787165583?mt=8

"Action arena spear-em-up. Fight your opponents on randomly generated maps"
It's a fun game, got it when it was released. Basically you have one spear, and you need to kill enemies in each arena. But the catch is that you have to retrieve your spread once it's thrown so every attack counts. Unarmed, you're defenseless and can only evade enemies.

Any recommendations on good (turnbased) strategy games in the last months?

I got 10 euros to spend after buying Motorsport Manager.

edit: 80 days around the world might be interesting, so just a little less to spend then I guess. :D
edit2: and Hitman Go bought, nevermind the recommendations.

I'm really damn impressed by Motorsport Manager.
Really impressed.

Not only is maybe one of the most slick things that has ever graced my iPhone, it's really damn addicting and it really feels you are watching a (not boring) F1 race.

After the first tournament you realize there is much much more than meets the eye, and the race really requires your total attention...(initially it seems a bit basic, but winning is another matter entirely).

Interesting.. how does it run? I have an iPhone 4, debating picking this up now or waiting until I get a 6 (definitely time to upgrade, my phone's chugging along very slowly these days).
