The closest I can think of to EU or CK would be Autumn Dynasty Warlords. It is a 4X game, however the battles are done in real-time (think Total War).
Starbase Orion is a sci-fi 4X game, and is completely turn-based. It is very well supported, and the developer has added tons of features over the years. It has a good tutorial, you can play against the AI or other players, but there's no 'story' campaign.
Panzer Corps, a war game, has an insanely long campaign. The game length is measured in years, not hours, if you buy all the expansions.
If you like XCOM, check out Breach & Clear and Frozen Synapse. B&C has singleplayer missions, while FS has a full campaign with story.
Finally, check out King of Dragon Pass for something a little different. It is an extremely deep strategy game, but the presentation is unlike anything you've seen before. It is presented as a choose-your-own-adventure story, with hand-drawn illustrations and endless choices. I personally think this is a must-have for any iOS device owner
They Need To Be Fed 3
Guys, seriously, this game is the best gravity platformer there is. Liked the first one, the sequel was brilliant and this just tops it in every way. A ton of different fun gameplay mechanics, a lot of style everywhere, three modes to play (and epic mode and a brand new adventure mode that lets you explore a huge map, more relaxing than the main game. Lots of things to discover), perfect controls, GameCenter, awesome music, awesome unique graphics, this game has it all and its perfect. Very recommended. Fans of platformer games, this is a no brainer purchase. If fact, for all gamers. A letter of love to videogames.

The tower defense. A mainstay of the IOS platform, defined by a gameplay structure that only a few in the genre have toyed with. Sentinel 4: Dark Star doesn't bend that familiar structure, but rather refines and improves on it, delivering the series' best entry to date.
You know the drill here. Each level you're presented with a path, and you place defenses to protect your base from encroaching waves of enemies. While the core mechanics are standard, it's Sentinel's wealth of tactics and content that makes it one of the best tower defense games on the platforms. Your armory is massive. Towers, from the lowly laser to shielders and bombs and many more, all with stats that can be upgraded. Drones that hover overheard, healing structures or attacking enemies. Droids that are placed on the path itself. Your Sentinel's weapons, allowing you to call down a hail of missiles or ground-searing laser from above. Your Commander, with skills to unlock, weapons to equip, and different models to choose from. Combine these myriad options and you have a vast array of strategies to deploy against equally varied foes that attack from every angle, can damage your turrets. Even the planet itself is out to antagonize you, as some levels have environmental hazards like dust storms and earthquakes that hinder your tactics.
Sentinel 4 rounds out this TD package with a slick presentation and a story to tie your missions together. From the stylish menu where you zoom on the planet's surface to select missions, to the varied and vivid effects in the midst of battle, Sentinel delivers a polished finely crafted experience in all aspects. While the gameplay doesn't offer anything new to the genre, the depth, content, challenge, and visuals make Sentinel 4: Dark Star a worthy addition for any tower defense fan's library.
Space Age is a game of space adventure. Set in the retro-futuristic sci-fi world of 1976, it follows a small but determined band of intergalactic explorers who have just landed on a seemingly uninhabited planet, Kepler-16. What happens next is a clash of old and new, a battle of past mistakes and future fallout.
Space Age is a graphic adventure in the vein of LucasArts classics, reimagined for a new millennium and its mobile devices. Told in grand cinematic style, orchestrally scored, filled with drama, humor, and romance, Space Age is a golden-age science-fiction story come to immersive life.
Will our brave space crew find what they are looking for? Will they safely return to Earth at the end of their cosmic journey? And what exactly happened the last time Earthlings attempted to leave their solar system?
Shocking answers await those daring enough to venture out into the unknown and EXPLORE…!
Ssshhh please dont tell anyone or I wont get paid xD
Joking aside, it's pretty awesome that, despite being quite informed about iOS games, I've never heard of this series before.
I got it and played for a bit. It's pretty fun! Plays great, looks adorable and the soundtrack is very good too.
Speaking of platformers, I wish there were more (or any, actually) good 3D platformers on iOS (or Android).
iOS GAF, I need your help! I recently started a job with an hour long train commute! Naturally, my iPad air has become my bestest friend and I use it non stop for reading and catching up on TV, however, I need some advice with games:
I'm looking for something pretty specific, it may not even exist. Here's a description of my perfect game, essentially deep turn based strategy:
- t's got strategic depth like Paradox games, Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader Kings 2.
- It's turn based, so I can close the iPad, or close my eyes.
- There's no reflex or twitch based action; not interested in real time strategy on ipad.
- It does not require a live internet connection; otherwise I would just play hearthstone.
- It is not a card game, I love Hearthstone and don't have the mental capacity to take on another card game.
- Price is not a factor, I'll pay up for a game that will keep me engaged for months or more.
XCOM would be my perfect commute game, HOWEVER, I'm spoiled by the Enemy Within expansion pack on PC and the vanilla version now seems very dry and simple in comparison. I have it and play it, but get bored pretty quickly with it these days.
So, I thank you in advance for your suggestions!
Check out the recently released Angel In DangerJoking aside, it's pretty awesome that, despite being quite informed about iOS games, I've never heard of this series before.

It's a solid 3D platformer
And yeah They Need To Be Fed is one of the best platformer series on IOS. Consistently fun and well designed games
The one man developer behind BitAteBit said "I just do games and release them, hoping someones pick them up". So probably could be labeled as a true "hidden gem". Jesse Venbrux make really good and solid games.
There are plenty of 2D games, but not that many 3D ones... Crazy Edgy is one of them, or like More_Badass suggested, there is that game, Angel in Danger, looks good but unlike him I haven't played it (goes into the wish-list... than more than a wish list is a list of games to purchase one of those weeks where nothing gets released or when I finished a lot of games in a row)
Hey all,Hey guys!
I have been on NeoGAF for a while but never had the opportunity to post something meaningful! So maybe now is the time Were a team of 4 industry professionals who worked on games like FUEL, KINECT RUSH: A Disney Pixar Adventure, PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER (iOS) and the soon to be released THE CREW! Recently, we decided to gather our strengths and develop a game of our own
SPLODENDIE is a frantic rhythm game featuring a bunch of awesome monsters YOU will need to destroy!
Prevent them to reach the exit by using deadly weapons but beware, each of them is only sensitive to the weapon of the same color, so make sure you fire at the right time!
SPLODENDIE features:
. Various types of monsters with their own unique abilities
. Different types of weapons: electric, laser, flame and acid
. An exciting match 3 mechanic with shielded monsters to spice things up!
. Nearly 50 levels with increased difficulty just for your fingers
. A mind-blowing scoring system to compete with your friends
. And of course 15 achievements, 5 leaderboards + cloud saving enabled
SPLODENDIE release on iOS and Android is due later this summer but stay tuned, we have more to share in the upcoming weeks (gameplay footage amongst other things)!
... So obviously we are beginning to try to build awareness around the game but first and foremost we wanted to finally put the game in front of peoples eyes and wed really love to hear what you think about it so dont hesitate to send us your feedback or ask any question about S'N'D!

Oh man. That's no small compliment. Purchase assured.Enjoying pako, gives me super skidmarks vibes from the Amiga.
Crazy Edgy was pretty good (when it came out). The first 3D platformer that I absolutely loved on iOS.

I had no idea that Sentinel 4 was out. That's another I need to grab, along with Motorsport Manager at midnight.
I genuinely avoid this thread because I can't afford to keep reading it.
Edit: yup, Pako is awesome.
You mean Crazy Hedgy, right? I agree, it's a wonderful platformer, and it looks really beautiful on the latest devices.
Has anybody else tried out Swing Copters yet? It seems much harder than Flappy Bird was, or maybe I'm just really tired... my high score (after a hundred or more tries) is just three.

Motorsport Manager.
That feeling when you finally have your top driver first, and you tell him to keep pushing because you want even the fasted lap for the sponsors...then he blows up the engine on last lap...

Downloading at the moment can't wait to try this out
Any multiplayer options in this?

A shame - it works really great on 4S. Only major problem was I had a bug one time when reloading a save that stopped background music from playing. (Music is about 50 percent of my enjoyment of PW games.) A hard reboot of the phone fixed this, but it was a real bummer. Hope it doesn't happen again.Just tried Phoenix wright on my iPhone 4... Did not go well :/
No multiplayer but apparently the dev has been bombarded by mp requests so it's not ruled out in the future (or a sequel) but it will require a heavy rewrite of the code.
So far I'm really loving it, even if I'm not that into management simulations (but I do love motorsports).
It has the right depth (not too much...I do not like ultra complex simulations) but absolutely not casual...I've found if you do not follow closely the race and timings you have no chances...playing it on fast forward always is not an option if you want to proceed.
It really touches the right balance spot...even race lenght is perfect for the medium.
Trying to win first tier now...after all burocatic things have been sorted out (contracts sealed, engineers hired, factory upgraded, sponsors found).
I'm betting everything on a new young pilot...made him first pilot and supporting him constantly.
Signing the second pilot was not that easy.
His fans are RAGING on the fake twitter stream in the game (just brilliant).

I'm really damn impressed by Motorsport Manager.
Really impressed.
Not only is maybe one of the most slick things that has ever graced my iPhone, it's really damn addicting and it really feels you are watching a (not boring) F1 race.
After the first tournament you realize there is much much more than meets the eye, and the race really requires your total attention...(initially it seems a bit basic, but winning is another matter entirely).
Very gradually. I just unlocked the second rank, where now there's an extra rule that every run there are "special stocks" - you're assigned two company stocks to always buy regardless of up/down, and two stocks to always sell. They're on special blue paper, and if you buy/sell them wrong it's an instant game over. But buying/selling right gives you a bit of a boost that lowers the rising stack of stocks.^^^
I was just going to ask about The Firm. Does the game expand on the stuff I've see in the trailers? Swipe left or right, depending on if it's green/red, up/down. I've see several Papers Please comparisons, but I'm not really seeing the connection

First season I played in British League came 2nd so I have switched to the Aussie league.
I have signed a new driver who I am very pleased with first race my old driver came first and new one came 3rd so we are off to a very good start!
What sort of tactics to you use with tyres? I notice everyone seems to go soft first but then after that it is a matter of choice I love timing my tyre switch just right the worst feeling is if you crack first and your tyres start to fade with a couple of laps left and the pack closing in on you...

It's very challenging but I'm enjoying it so far
Well I've taken the plunge, and it's already crashed on me twice. Once in qualifying and once in the first race! Very bloody annoying!
It really needs an option to turn off the music, instead of just all audio as well. I'm always stunned when I see that oversight in apps.
Another thing, I've seen the pages where you can renew/release your engineers and racers, but is it possible to browse the market before deciding to release someone? I have no way of knowing if I have better options otherwise.
