Each month, the iOS GAF community hosts a thread for new game releases, rumors and discussion that define the fast-moving world of iOS gaming.
The OP will contain games that released both towards the end of the previous month and games that have released during the current month -- all games which have been highlighted by the GAF community in one way or another. This way you can keep tabs on the best games and at the same time curate an excellent resource to look back on to find games you may have missed.
Also keep an eye out for the ‘GAF iOS Challenges’; events where GAF battle it out on the Game Center leaderboards of a chosen game for both fame and fortune (prizes donated by members of our community).

[GAF DEV QUOTE]We just released SKULLS OF THE SHOGUN for iOS today. It's $5 and a universal app with zero IAP, and it's got the new singleplayer episode, progression system, and new multiplayer maps from the Steam version (the Bone-A-Fide Edition) rolled into it, making it the sickest Skulls game you could ever hope to play on a tablet.
We authored all our content at super high res, so the first time we saw it up and running on a Retina iPad our eyes exploded. It's got like 3x the pixels of the Xbox 360 version. I guess we're living in the future and I'm totally okay with that.
Skulls on the go? Couldn't say no.
On this. Never got a chance to play it on other systems, but saw it on Giant Bomb back in the day and love me some advance wars-esque strategy [Read: fun and charming turn based strategy game!].

I'm really enjoying Lords of Waterdeep at the moment. Never played the original board game so I can't say how faithful a reproduction it is but it's fun and seems to have a good level of strategy involved. Online works the same way as Ascension so there's a fair bit of waiting for others to take your turn which can sometimes to cause you to forget what quests you're trying for but at the worst that's only annoying. The UI is crisp and clean and the art pretty nice, the tutorial also does a great job of explaining the board and mechanics.
I've tried other playdek games before such as Agricola andy ever been able to get in to them despite really wanting to, they've either been too difficult (either due to a poor tutorial or me being thick, not sure which) or they've just not managed to hod my attention. Ascension is my most played ios game without a doubt and at the moment I reckon Waterdeep could end up not being far behind.

I'm happy to report it is UTTERLY fantastic.
Different enough from Bulge to keep me playing in the Ardenness nonetheless, but absolutely fantastic.
Scenarios are fast and furious, different between each other enough to be fresh.
I love that, no matter what, you always seems to breakthrough Moscow and then you are drove back a bit next impulse.
The scattered and diverse VP spots are a fantastic addition...give you so many different paths to victory (both defending and attacking) and the vastness of the frozen plains gives you plenty of movements to try to plan a strategy and have it completed somewhat in a relative short timespan (something that was a bit more limited in Bulge, which poses other fantastic as well challenges).
I confess I really got lost in the frozen plains near Moscow last night...all those sounds, the blowing wind, the firearms, the cavalry...and then....the grand final music...4 hours passed by without noticing.
Cant wait to start the full blown campaign.
Another fantastic release, congrats to the devs.

Downloaded Stealth Bastard/Stealth Inc. and played through the first set of levels.
I was always a big fan of the Desktop version (I played some of it on my Mac), and wanted a portable version. Good news is it's a pretty faithful port. If you want to know about the base game, just look up reviews for that version and that should suffice,
One thing that I'm not a great fan of in the iOS version is the "floating" movement controls. The movement is controlled by basing wherever you put your left finger down as the center point if a virtual analog stick. For most analog games, I can see the reasoning behind this, but playing this previously on my Mac with a keyboard, I'd actually prefer a more digital d-pad or at least the option for one.
My issue with the floating analog pad is that, with my ipad, to go left you have to drag left, which means that many times, I find my thumb running off into the black bezel and bringing me to a grinding halt.
Otherwise, still love the base game. Great music and graphics, fun mechanics, but some odd control decisions.

So, Oceanhorn. Almost 2 hours in... I like it. It's pretty much a Zelda clone (it's indeed pretty shameless sometimes) but it's decent, I'm having fun with it. Probably more than I did with PH and ST. Navigation is more Phantom Hourglass than Wind Waker.
Tip: block just before an enemy attack and it will bounce, giving you an opening. The visual cue is very subtle (animation is not hot in this game) so I discovered this by accident. Some enemies like ogres will block you, so it's useful to know,
I say give it a try if you don't have a 3DS to play the new Zelda.
Well, I just turned it on and played around on the first island for 15 minutes:
-Music is wonderful
-Graphics seem really great so far. My friends at work who don't play phone games were jaw-dropped when I showed them
-Controls seem to be pretty good so far. Just touch anywhere and push to start moving. a big action button in the bottom right corner for interacting/picking things up etc
I've barely scratched the surface of the game but so far, I'm lovin' it (tm)
Oceanhorn is....surprisingly good? I've only put 40 minutes into it so far, but it seems like a competent little adventure game. The controls are actually quite well done. Nothing too complicated has been asked yet control wise, but just moving around has the kind of tightness you expect more from an analog stick. The graphics look really nice on the iPad Air, super clean and colorful and runs at 60fps. The world and characters could use a bit more personality, but it doesn't feel as cheap and generic as I was expecting. The music is really good so far, which helps in injecting more life into the world.

Want impressions for the OP!

Game OT here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711316

Thanks!
As for Football Heroes not being a universal app, we wanted to be under the 100MB cellular limit for iPhone. Our iPad assets are much higher in resolution (and have more frames for animation) and we wanted the flexibility to make the iPad version more tablet-friendly in the future, after initial launch.
The good news is that if you use GameCenter, you can play on your iPhone and iPad no problem. Achievements are shared, as is account and team data. For example, at work, I level up my team on my phone and then go home and play the game on my iPad.
Football Heroes is like Mutant League Football mashed up with the awesome card system from the old Madden games on PS2. The controls are fluid and make punching through the defence (literally punching) very satisfying. The RPG mechanics aren't overbearing (your team's players are represented as cards and earn XP which ranks them up), the IAP isn't offensive (you can basically buy cash or boosters but don't have to as you can buy boosters with in game money just fine), and the multiplayer is awesome - especially locally. If they do a hockey one, it's day one for me.
holy shit is football heroes kinda fun.
punching could be a bit op though. does the spin move have a cooldown? Wonder if a runner can just spam that.
made a quick OT thread [linked above] if people wanna discuss stuff or do mp or something.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quizup/id718421443?ls=1&mt=8
This needs to go to the Featured section IMO. Finally, I've been waiting for a decent trivia game for a loooong time and this is quite fun and fast-paced and overall addictive. The whole game feels really well designed and here connecting to Facebook is worth your while.
I know it's a completely corporate endeavour made to make millions but it feels so decent. IAP are for buying XP boost that in result gives you a boost on leaderboards but at the moment I had no problem becoming top player in my country (which feels great BTW).
I'm loving this app, like you I've wanted a decent trivia game. It's super sleek and the rounds only take a minute or two making them perfect for wasting time. Plenty of topics too.
Yeah, Quiz Up is SUPER. Love it.

Meltdown is the best third-person cover shooter on the platform. Amazing controls, great weapons and light RPG mechanics, randomly generated levels, and four-player co-op.
The style is also worth lauding; it has cool cell shaded character art akin to Borderlands and some fun animations that remind me of Warhammer: Space Marine. The level design and art is less inspired, and environment reuse is a bit disappointing with this initial version, but the devs are openly teasing more content.
Admittedly, the levels are a bit bland but variety does come in the later missions with bosses and differing layouts. The devs are already teasing more content in game, mind.
In spite of its shortcomings, next to Trigger Fist, it's one of the best shooters on iOS bar none.
I was impressed at first. Nice visuals, solid gameplay... but the game is just another kill kill rinse and repeat grind feat. All the levels looks samey. It's randomly generated but I can swear it always looks and feels almost exactly the same. Always same assets too.
Game is fun, but not that great IMO.
i agree with meltdown. been having more fun than i'd thought. definitely reminds me a bit of gears of war, but top down and faster. It does get quite tough too.Shame online is a bit ghetto atm.

It's a pixel-based Death Star tamagotchi on your iOS device basically, like Tiny Tower before it, you'll spend more time tending to your construction than actively 'playing' this game and that's perfectly fine. It's riddled with Star Wars-infused humour and tidbits that both Tiny Tower and Star Wars fans alike will love. Nimblebit strikes a really nice balance, you'll play it for weeks a few minutes a day. It's free to play, but the IAPs are never forced and you'll be able to 'complete' it in a few weeks without spending a dime.

Rayman Jungle Run was the best 'runner' game on iOS... Rayman Fiesta Run is now the best 'runner' game on iOS. Also, calling it a runner game is a great disservice as it's so so much more than that, it's platforming/racing bliss on iOS. This is what Sonic dreams of. GET THIS!

Sorcery! is a four-part epic adventure, I haven't played part 2 yet but part 1 was some of the finest make-your-own-adventure fused with table-top roleplay gaming I've ever had and I expect nothing less from this one. A masterful adaptation of the Sorcery! gamebook series from the 1980's.

Mash up a SNES-era Zelda adventure with a Wind Waker-esque artstyle and lots and lots of dungeon puzzles, items and humour and you got Ittle Dew in a nutshell. The puzzles start out small but get increasingly more elaborate as you traverse a quite large world very 'inspired' from something like Zelda: A Link to the Past and the story is quite amusing. Basically it's an unabashed Zelda clone and it knows it wholeheartedly, completely infused with a bunch of self-aware humor (incl. the name of the actual game). The controls are done well with a virtual d-pad and buttons.
