Is Bloodborne the best game this generation?

Of course it is. People who say no are just filthy, heretic hoonters who should learn to fear the old blood.

Good Idea, excellent lore and setting.
I would put it up to top 10 this gen.. if it would even manage to run at 30FPS.
With it's subpar performance it's somewhere between 11th and 20th place. It's still very good tho and one of my favorite PS4 games, but of the whole Gen? Hell naw.

maybe not best but it's in my top 5.

if we're not getting a sequel then for the love of kos can we at least get a PC version so we don't need to play at 720p 25-30fps with shitty pacing?

imagine this game at 1440-2160p with 60-144hz support and the ability to mod out the CA filter.

It's one of them, for sure. But so is DS1.

Different folks. Different strokes. That genre is fun but not my favorite. Games that are up there for me this gen are Mario Kart 8 (best mario kart game ever made imo), Animal Crossing New Leaf, and maybe Ori and the Blind Forest. But that is also out of the games I've actually played. I still have not played BotW (for shame). This gen was the gen of indies for me. I had so much fun with Inside, Rime, Little Nightmares, Sexy Brutale and Unravel. Fantasy Life by Level 5 was fantastic and I'd love to see a bigger and better sequel on the Switch.

The best? I don't know. I wouldn't put any game there as the top of the generation. But Bloodborne is one of the best, yes.
It's an absolute masterpiece. Its biggest flaw is being an exclusive.

Wasn't even good enough to get a PC version, so not really.

I would vote for they are billions.

Definitely.

No point in typing an explanation.

Gaf thinks The Last of Us, Uncharted and Breath of the Wild are good games.
So there is no point in debating these people.

I finished Dark Souls 1-3 and liked them. But I played 1 hour of Bloodborne and found it pretty bad, so I stopped. It was not fun to me.

You know what? It wasn't fun to me either. Bloodborne is dreadful. Always being afraid of what monstrosity lurks around the next corner. It's a descent into madness. That's why i love it.

Yeah it's my game of the generation, as much as I loved demons souls, dark souls, also really enjoyed dark souls 2 which I mostly played with mate on pc for jolly co-operation, dark souls 3 I found boring after bloodborne put in about 15 hours on pc then went back to bloodborne

Nah, it's excellent but it has a few problems.
1) Blood vials should absolutely, absolutely just refill on death. Same as Dark Souls. This was something new the game tried that just doesn't work - The core ideas behind the game, rinsing and repeating encounters until you get them down, is still in play. The player should never have to worry about grinding. It shouldn't even be in the back of my mind. When I force myself not to think about it after a huge vial grind, I find the game's even better than it already is.
2) Not enough boss variety. Too many beast-type enemies that boil down to the same strategy - Figure out the boss' attack pattern and just get behind him. Notable exceptions are the Shadows of Yharnam and Rom the Vacuous Spider, which are both great fights on their own. There's also the Hunter fights but I don't personally enjoy those as much. Also adding here that I like allot of these beast fights, but there *are* allot of them.

Also adding here, as others have said, that chalice dungeons are a brilliant idea. And a big part of the game's content that players could miss by just not exploring Old Yharnam and not killing the Blood-starved Beast and not going into a chalice. Randomized Dark Souls levels? Give them to me.

Edit:
3) Ludwig's Holy Blade is OP and there's no reason to use any other weapon once you get. From pls nerf Kappa

I know it got remastered but it's originally from last gen, I always enjoy dark souls but once I see anor Londo and the painted world I tend to drop my playthrough, I will persevere this time and finish this playthrough though

What you enjoy fighting ROM, I hate that fucking spider, I get that flame cannister up to +6 just for that fight 😉

Yeah, dunno why my brain registered it as a current gen game there. You finished it before? It's only really downhill after Londo anyway but it's worth beating.

Yeah, Rom's cool. I like the slow, methodical approach to the fight, taking out the spiders one-by-one as they attack (or cheesing them on the edge with LHB). The ambiance is a part of it as the whole encounter has so much fanfare around it, but even the refight in the chalice dungeon is fun, as you have to manage to deal with all the little spiders without the luxury of an infinite void to wander around and actual field obstacles (although I hated it at first).

Fun fact: Trying to damage overload Rom in the chalice dungeon with your upgraded gear is a dangerous proposition. If you damage him through multiple phases before he TPs, *all* of the spiders that would have spawned in the last phase spawn together with the ones in the new phase. Good luck, asshole.

I lasted 5 minutes playing it as it was awful.

I can't think of a game I felt more lett down with in recent times.

Awful

It's in the running. I can't think of many games this gen that felt better to play or were as focused on executing an exact vision. And god damn it can't be said enough, that quick-step dodge was just a thing of beauty.

I always thought these debates are low-key making the case that the genre is the best rather than the game itself.

I discovered i was surprisingly good at Bloodborne. Even played it for a friend to get him through some hard parts. I miss playing it regularly. I got the platinum trophy all on my own.

Bloodborne is 5 years old in three weeks.

Imo it is the best game released this generation. The atmosphere is great, the blood upgrade system is intriuging and the weapons are the best and most fun I ever had with a game.

Pizza cutter in action

I mean dark souls 3 is solid and sekiro enjoyable, but bloodborne reigns surpreme. The random generated catacombs were also a brilliant idea when you were tired of the main map.

Some old youtube clips i found of me playing it.

Personally i think its dying light. It was a great game, awesome co op experience and the DLC maybe one of the best ever. It also has received so much support 5 yrs after release and it has a solid community.

I redownloaded the game today to see if I could get any farther than I did when it released, but then decided to restart the game.

Anyway, I played for two hours, bought all the armor upgrades I could, upgraded my axe, whatever. But I couldn't remember how to level up.

Turns out you can't level up until you encounter the first boss, and he's MISSABLE. So I wonder straight into the second boss, clueless, and he obliterates me and I lose 7000 blood echoes. The last two hours of my life have been pointless.

Also the frame rate is rough and the gun counter mechanic is unreliable because the devs pick a random half-second interval during an attack animation to make the enemy vulnerable but there is no visual cue or pattern to the mechanic at all.

It's not the game of the generation. It's not even game of the year.

how do you miss first boss though?! it's so obvious.

Was sad there wasn't as many bosses like Gascoigne, Gehrman or Lady Maria.
