Is the New Nintendo 3DS the first console with full network share capability?

Keep your explicit one but dont broadcast thr ssid. My neighbor in austin used to not broadcast his ssid and named it "registered sex offender" so people wouldnt steal his internet beyond his normal security.

well, mine was "david ***** is a wanker" as one of the guys on our road is an absolute dick. He somehow worked out it was me. ah well.

edit: for reference, he almost wrote off my dad's 4x4 by crashing into it whilst drunk.

Nice. How fast is it, though?

I will test it, hang on

edit: well, it's alright I guess. 2.5 - 3MB/s. 30mb trailer for MM3D took 10 seconds. Also, it now shows up on My Computer:

firstly, it's too underpowered I guess. also there's no need. this is purely because removing the micro SD card from the N3DS is an absolute pain in the ass.

you have to unscrew the back panel, and then literally snap it off. It felt like I was going to break it in half.

Is it really too underpowered to do network sharing? How is that even possible?

I get that it's unnecessary on the old 3DS' but since they developed the feature they might as well give it to every 3DS owner.

Great feature. Should be no problem to implement this for the old 3DS as well I think. But they may want to keep this as a New 3DS exclusive

merely a different protocol, the communication is the same regardless.
Xbox360 is a DLNA DMS? I thought it was just a DMP.

Regardless, DLNA (DMS for the serving party) is a quasi filesystem. The network fs sharing protocols (NFS, SMB, etc) are actual filesystems, and sometimes even more. Saying that those things are 'merely different protocols' is a bit of an oversimplification.

Wow this is a pretty cool feature. Didn't really expect anything like that from Nintendo, but when I get one, it'll definitely be useful for quick data transfer.

I tried to set it up just now. I can't seem to get it to work. I have a wireless router with a laptop plugged into it via ethernet but I can't see the 3DS anywhere even when I set it all up and sit at the SD card management screen.

Any help?

EDIT: Ahah! Okay so you need to wait a while for it to show up, I also had to move a bit closer to the router.

This is super awesome !

I love love podcasting on the nintendo 3ds, so everything being wireles is awesome !!!

Content manager app

You have to use Content Manager Assistant, but you've been able to wireless transfer data from Vita to PC/PS3 for a while now.

I've never had to plug my Vita onto my computer yet I can backup saves, transfer games back and fourth no worries to both my PC/Mac. Sure it needs an application on your computer but the functionality has still been there from day one.

Two of them learned that in the time since we talked, and one had his mind blown open. Good job Gaf, mission accomplished. :)

I had forgotten about this thread. Thanks for the bump!

I hope we get a new thread that collates all the information we have about the new 3DS

Is there a way to get my new 3DS to register on my Android phone (or iPad?!)? Might be a silly question, but I would really like to be able to transfer screenshots over.

Wow this is a really cool feature. Is it always working in the background, only when at the main menu, or do you have to enable it every time you want to make a transfer? This could be useful to automate backing up your SD card to your PC/NAS periodically.

Only when you go into the sd management option. As soon as you do that, it is recognized as a network drive on the PC

You would need an app. The protocol that is being used is SMB (less commonly known as CIFS). If you search for that in the various app stores, you should find some stuff that will work.

That's a great feature. Good idea to bump this thread.
On the network side, did they also get rid of that silly limit of being able to remember only 3 wireless networks?

On the iPad side, that's very doubtful on a non-jailbroken device as you'd need some kind of file manager.
Edit: well, my bad. I always tend to underestimate what Apple natively allows.
