Just went on the command board for the first time. I have literally no idea what the fuck is happening.

Played a couple hours last night. Plays wonderfully and the combat system is great. Tried the command board once, it was ok. I'll give it another go later.

Really excellent Kingdom Hearts game!
Essentially what I was going to post. My issues with the game for the most part are due to the PSP not the game, I'd love to be able to play this with a DS3, I'm not going to say it would be enough to sell me a Go, it probably wouldn't, but it would make me consider it if it was available on there.

The only thing that strikes me as off about this game is the lack of life in some of the environments. Take

In the town square it is completely empty..(the unversed do not spawn here) they could have added some extra Disney characters like Pluto etc...

Play Crisis Core or look at videos of The 3rd Birthday; their PSP engine is gaaaaaaaaaaaaarbage at environments, so you end up with relatively flat, huge, open, and barren environments.

KH2 actually had really lame environments too, but it at least had the courtesy to make them smaller so that they didn't feel vacant.

Maybe that will improve in time for Agito, Tomb Raider Anniversary is amongst the most technically impressive games on the PSP I think, the texture detail and complex geometry in that game with relatively sparse loading is very impressive.

That is the main problem of the KH-serie for me. I really love Kingdom Hearts, but I just don't understand why the towns in KH are always so empty. The PoTC, Alladin, Halloween Town, Mulan, Disney castle, Twilight Town, Radiant Garden, the Colliseum, The little Mermaid, etc. would have been so much better with a little more 'life' in it. And really how hard can it be to add a couple of NPC characters? And apparently we see the same problem in BBS...

Oh well there is always a KH3 without these flaws, right?

Right?

Yeah finished Crisis Core the other week. I am just saying it was the only thing that struck me as off. in KH1 and 2 there we people seen wandering some streets where the shops etc where.

How many spoilers? I want to watch it but I'm cautious.

what i end up doing is leaving it on and going to another tab, basically, listening to it only like an audio review.

BTW, 1up Review: http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3181187

Fans have been clamoring for a new Kingdom Hearts game on the current generation of consoles, and we keep hearing vague promises that it's coming eventually. In the meantime, Birth by Sleep is the next best thing. It recaptures the fun of the console games, while adding features that make it a worthwhile entry in the game's canon. This isn't a little sibling; it's a true, if slight, evolutionary step for the series. Whenever we do finally see a Kingdom Hearts 3, it's bound to have taken lessons from this portable prequel.

What is B+ if you turn it in a score?

Duckroll already told you that neither CC, BBS nor TTB use the same engine.

It must be a design decision, budget decision or simply psp can't handle PS2 quality-models in PS2-quality enviroments.

Aw shit I think I just made Critical Mode a little too easy for me. Combined a bunch of Zero Gravity(Magnet in other KH games) and now I hate Zero Graviga/ra and easy to abuse the spell like previous KH games.

It's not Magnet though. Magnet spells are still in the game. Magnet draws enemies into the point of the spell, Zero Gravity creates an area effect where all enemies in it are suspended in the air for a period of time.

Zero Graviga + Thunderga placed in that exact order on the deck = fun times for running into large groups of enemies.

A score in numbers...
Metacritic say it's 83. 1up.com scores system goes like this:

A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F

However C is actually considered half way because they equate it to the logic they claimed to hold for a 5/10. So there are basically seven divisions in the top 5 scores, so yeah, it is about an 8/10.

oh shi- didn't know that

So is Critical mode basically Proud mode just with the Exp Zero ability?

Easy - You deal 50% more damage, all damage dealt to you is halved.
Normal - Normal
Proud - You deal normal damage, all damage dealt to you in doubled.
Critical - You deal half the damage, all damage dealt to you is doubled.

IIRC, Easy eliminates the chance to get the secret movie, whereas the increasingly difficult modes improve your chances.

What exactly is the Zero Exp ability? No leveling at all?

It took me a couple of tries (and a second read through the help information), but I got the hang of it. You should be fine if you give it another try. I've reached the point where I'm enjoying the Command Board. It's a nice diversion from the main game, and there are pretty nice rewards for playing around with it, regardless of if you win or not.

Why the fuck is the Command Board so much fun? GREAT idea for short bursts of play while commuting, etc. It's like Monopoly and Mario Party melded in to a great little skill leveling system.

It's fun, but it's just a gimped Itadaki Street. I wish English speakers could play those and see how much fun they are.

StuBurns, I beat Terra's in 10. Haven't beaten any others yet... working on Ven, slowly.

It took me around 35 to finish Terra's, but I was attempting to complete the main game AND the Report Book.

So... is the game's story just as convoluted as the other recent KH?
It's been pretty straightforward by KH standards, but perhaps it gets worse later on. Closer to KH1 than 2 at the very least.

Thanks.

I wish the series go back to the KH1 route. More charm and with fun characters and heartwarming dialogues that bring back childhood - something fitting for the Disney's world.

So I did the super basic tutorial, and that's all I've done, but can Aqua lock on while running around? I thought L+R did it but that went into her scanning...thing for crowds of enemies. Again, I have really no idea due to little playtime :lol

That's the Shootlock, which requires the character to stop, aim for an enemy or a crowd in order to get as many target marks as possible, then use a super-attack. Locking on is just pressing both buttons once.

Played a good chunk of it last night. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's got that same addictive gameplay that KH2 had. I couldn't get into KH1 (didn't even finished it) but KH2 was a huge improvement I thought and went to finish that.

I think Birth by Sleep has that same addictiveness like KH2 so far.

I'm just getting a little worried about reviews saying that it gets repetitive later on because you visit the same areas.

Are there a lot worlds to visit and good variety? I hope it's not repetitive.

Honestly, it's not as bad as it's being made out to be. Yes, you do revisit several places with more than one character, but some areas are exclusive to a character and some of the worlds are completely different between two characters while the other visits a mix of both. There are very few repeated bosses, the storyline is also different and each character has different strengths and exclusive commands, styles and Shootlocks. If you thought going through the worlds twice in KH2 was fine you shouldn't have a problem here since it's similar to that counting the three characters.

Using Exp Zero/Zero Exp ability to level/learn skills/magic without leveling up so I don't get too over powered.

The simple act of learning all those skills and magic might push you there anyway.

P.S. Am I the only one who really like's Aqua's VA? The entire cast is much better than I thought iit would be (still not quite up to KH standards) but she stands out.

I agree, And i've said this before.

So, who the hell had the bright idea to put an escort mission in this game? I am not amused. At least I managed to get by it on the first try.

So far the game hasn't been giving me too much of a challenge playing on Normal, outside of the first boss battle. I hope the difficulty ramps up as the game goes along. Game play systems are all highly enjoyable, and I'm spending lots of time playing around with the command board. So far I've gone through two areas (Enchanted Dominion and Castle of Dreams). Not a whole lot of story so far, but I'm interested to see where it goes.

Picked this game up yesterday, started with Vens campaign. Just beat the first boss (which was so freaking hard, I literally died one second in the first time, I swear. :lol )

Anyways, Im having a blast with this game. Cant wait to see where it goes next.

Just picked up the game and going to hopefully get through it this month along with Valkyria 2 though work and school might make that tough. What's the recommended order of the play through, I believe Normua said in an interview at some point Terra, Ventus then Aqua? Also how hard is "Proud" selected that difficultly because I want a little bit more of a challlenge but I also don't want to just rage for 20 hours because I no longer have time for that :lol.

It gets easier. The first few worlds are the toughest because your character is so weak. Once you get good spells you are fine for the rest of the game outside a mid-boss and final boss.

Then again I dunno why people are surprised the game is easy like every other KH game. These aren't supposed to be Ninja Gaiden and make you die a hundred times until you become a master keyblade gamer. They're just fun action games for the average gamer skill level.

Well, I found Normal difficulty a suitable challenge in II and in 358, so I'm just hoping that I get a similar challenge here. I'm not expecting some super hardcore difficulty, just to have boss battles that take a few tries to get through.

I'm not very good at action based games, so Kingdom Hearts games are usually a decent enough challenge for me.:lol

Yeah I was having some trouble on Terra's first boss, but the rest has been cake.

The died once on the
masked boy fight with Mickey
, other than that, not died so far, it's pretty easy, I'm playing on normal, but I do remember KH1 being pretty difficult at times so I didn't want to jump straight to Proud, especially as my hands don't do great with the PSP.

Just finished
Deep Space, the zero-G stuff was incredibly fun
so far I'm just having a blast with it, it's really awesome and this team can certainly handle KH3 if the situation requires it. I'd forgotten how these games really worked and what makes them great. I'm more excited for Versus than ever too.

I just really hope Wall-E is in KH3, it could look so beautiful.

Argh,
Experiment 221 with Terra
is a bloody awful boss. I can just about deal with most of his attacks, but the bit where he
takes over the machine guns
is awful - one wrong move and I get combo'd to death.

Enjoying the game apart from that though. One question - is there a benefit given to playing the three characters after another on the same save file, or might I as well have three different saves for each character and play them at once?

Could do with a breather after trying to take that bastard down :p

You can't actually have all of the characters on the same save file. When you finish a character's story, you save clear data for that character, and you can start a new game with another character. So you'll have to have a different save for each character.

I was wondering this as well, I feel like it would be fun to do the game almost simultaneously with everyone but not sure how it works when you finish one campaign. I imagine there would be something at the end when you finished the game with everyone but not sure how it would link with separate save files.
