It has to be asked : Will Dark Souls 2 get the PS4/XB1 version it so deserves ?

a better question is whether they're going to give us the pc version we deserve and not a console+ version, with all the "lead platform" talk and misrepresented PR materials.

This article is from a third party. Not internal development.
....a third party which cites an internal source

It specifically calls out the console versions and isnt evidence pointing to the state of the PC version.

Uh, what? I posted that in response to someone saying there was no indication that the graphical effects were game wide and that they were simply present in thea areas featured in the few demos and screens we saw predowngrade. This source is saying they were present throughout the entire game prior to the very end of development.
We have no footage, limited internal statements saying PC will have improved resolution and framerate, and a handful of screens.

None of which were provided in response to the downgrade issue.

Uh no? The community rep who confirmed that and had the old screens pulled was responding directly to someone who was asking about the downgrade in relation to the PC version.

if I had to bet money, I'd say yes. Companies know people want more impressive next gen versions of things, Dark Souls in particular has a dedicated following who'll buy everything (guilty), and Dark Souls 2 in particular has a new engine that is reportedly very scalable.

I bought Tomb Raider DE at brand new price and I'm fine with that. I'll buy TLOU DE at full price. I'd buy this too.

If they do, I'd hope they would roll that same patch out to the PC.

The current-gen version would be based on the PC version.
PCs are more than capable of handling anything the current-gen consoles can produce.

I don't see any reason, other than greed, that the graphical updates wouldn't be patched into the PC version as well.

Doubt this would ever happen, considering From's track record with PC.

Ninja Blade port ---> shit, no post release support
DS1 port ---> shit, made a ton of money, next to no post release support

It'll happen, just you guys wait. They even said they made Dark Souls 2 with next gen in mind. Of course they wouldn't mention anything in January, they wouldn't want it to eat into PS3/360 sales.

Well, they made the new engine with next gen in mind, not necessarily Dark Souls 2.

That's actually a good point, I hadn't considered that.

I was thinking with this being their 3rd Souls game on the consoles that for them to over shoot the PS3/360's capabilities made little sense therefore a next gen port was likely the plan all along.

But what you're saying kinda kills that idea.

I haven't bought Dark Souls II and South Park: TSOT because I'm holding onto the smallest amount of hope they will announce next gen ports.

I agree with the DS portion, as I am doing the same. South Park, however, is cartoon based just like the TV show. It's not going to look any better on the ps4. It might run a little more stable but I was quite impressed with the ps3 version. Great game. Don't miss out on it.

We will see it. From wants the new install base to grow so they're in no hurry. They will sell as much as they can on the old hardware and then announce something new, maybe even after some DLC.

The issues with the DS1 PC port are overblown.

Game works perfectly with a controller, optimized, no crashes. It's not a bad port, just a 1:1 console port.
Durante's fix came out just as the game released on Steam.

Namco has already removed GFWL from Ace Combat, looks like Dark Souls 1 is next.

Would make sense if they did but if people are expecting them to do more than port the PC version possibly with some content that will be DLC on other platforms. These guys prted an Xbox game to PC straight. Yhey wont do more work than they need to. 60fps 1080p On consoles will sell the gsme on its own.

I would disagree. 30 FPS, 720p, and GFWL just indicates a tone deaf attitude to the PC market to me.

They ported the game cause of a petition and did it as quickly as possible. I don't think they realized the sales potential. We'll see whst they'll do on part 2 when itnwas planned all along.

I'm pretty sure it will happen rather sooner than later. If the PC really was the lead platform, there's not much reason not to do it.

edit: My thinking is that they will do something akin to the Atorias DLC in 6 months or so and release a "complete edition" on PS4/XONE at the same time.

I hope not. Not saying it deserves to be on its best form, but FromSoft promised the "lead" platform hype for PC and if the next-gen consoles deliver better visuals, it'll be a brutal backstab for the PC crowd. That is unless they compensate it with an upgrade on the PC. Such despair already.

Shouldn't the lead platform be the one that is finished and ready for release first? It just seems dumb to me.

Why does everybody just assume the worst? What Tomb Raider did was fucked but it's far from the norm. From has never screwed over it's fans. The PC port was bad because it was rushed and never planned and was released solely based on a petition which I don't think is done very often especially from Japanese studio. . Underneath the locked fps, resolution, and GFWL the game is still a damn good port technically thanks to Durante.

I really don't think they are planning a next gen port but since both the game and next gen consoles are selling well I could imagine Namco telling them to get started on it.

All this "definitive version" talk is paranoia. The game is already done on PC with higher res textures and running at 60 fps. Whatever bells and whistles were removed from development to retail I doubt we will see again. I predict the PC version being ported with maybe some extra content included that will be released on the other platforms as DLC.

If there is a next gen port with all the graphical upgrades it won't be out for a very long time so it makes more sense to me to port the PC version over as quickly as possible now that the game is still popular.
